Woodstock 94

8th grade. George Michael -- Faith tour. Went with my friend from school, her dad, and her little brother. I think it was at the Tacoma Dome.
|
My first concert was John Denver. I was 5. It was a birthday or Mother's Day present from my dad to my mom.
In sixth grade I went to two concerts, Oingo Boingo and Belinda Carlisle. The summer before ninth grade my best friend and I worked all summer to save up and buy 11th row seats for the Skid Row/Bon Jovi concert in Irvine. Her dad drove us down and waited in the car the whole time. That was cool. :D |
First concert ever was Donny & Marie, seriously. I had to have been like in 1st grade or so, maybe 2nd grade. After that was the Oak Ridge Boys, with my daddy, oh yeah.
First one I picked I can't remember if it was Tears For Fears or Cyndi Lauper! I'm thinking it was Tears For Fears I was like 12 and I went with my aunt, her best friend his boyfriend and another one of their friends, it was a BLAST. Cyndi Lauper my aunt dressed up like Cyndi Lauper and people were stopping her on the street because they really thought she was Cyndi!! Next concert was INXS in high school with a family friend, 9th grade I"m pretty sure and then it was ON!! :D From 15 on I went to concerts with just friends, usually took Bart. I know during 15-19 age group I saw a ton anything from Too Short, LL Cool J, Keith Sweat, Gucci Crew & Salt N Pepa to Skid Row, Aerosmith, Bonham, Slaughter, Motley Crue(wish I was going this year :( ) At 18 I started doing tons of small local "hair band" shows allll the timeat the Stone in SF & the Omni in Oakland, ahhhh the memories!! |
My first show was in 7th grade and I saw Spandau Ballet at the Universal Ampitheater. That was quickly followed up by all the other 80s band such as Wham!, Duran Duran, Howard Jones, Crowded House... I'm trying to think back...Oh, I saw Chicago once, Sting a couple of times (but never The Police)... I saw Rick Astley, Huey Lewis...
Oh to be young and have disposable income for concerts! My main regret is that I never got to see Oingo Boingo. :( |
You know what blows about concerts these days...no General Admission!
I hate sitting down at concerts! It sucks! The last time I saw Motley Crue (in 99?) the show was Gen Admin..it rocked! Just like the old days! I'm gonna be almost in tears seeing them from a freakin seat...but at least I'll be seeing them!!! |
The first concert I paid to see was an alternative Christian band called Undercover. It was a small venue and a load of fun. I was in college.
I worked a lot of concerts when I did concessions at our Civic Auditorium (before the BIG venue was built). The most memorable one was Iron Maiden with Anthrax as the opener. Walking inot work that day I ran into various members of Anthrax (not that I cared). But that wasn't the memorable part. It was this time of year with the typical winter Grapevine issues. All but the lead singer of Iron Maiden had arrived early that afternoon. The lead singer decided to be an idiot and stay in LA for as long as possible. Sure enough, he got stuck on the Grapevine. We had a near riot of stoned teens/young adults when the headline act was delayed for 2-1/2 hours waiting for the Grapevine to reopen. The one concert I was glad I missed was a rap/hiphop concert featuring a lot of various "artists". The place was packed. Someone got cute and popped a bunch of balloons. There was a complete panic envoked riot that night, with real gunshots. It was the last time a concert of that style was allowed to be indoors for a verrrrrry long time. |

I haven't been to an outdoor show in AGES!! I LOVED lounging around at outdoor shows, I saw ZZ Top & Steve Miller in San Jose outdoor and had such a blast! A "smokin'" good time! :D Oh and I saw Damn Yankee's and Bad Company outdoors, that was a SpecTacUlar show!! Loved it. |
The Screamers - the best LA punk band that never got signed - at the Whiskey A-Go-Go. I think I was 17 at the time, and totally out of my league with the hard core punk that were there with us. But it stands as one of the best punk shows I ever saw - I guess that's why I finally went punk.
I was pleased to find some MP3s of them awhile back, especially since they never released any records. The only airplay they got was from Rodney with some test pressings. I still own a Screamers T-Shirt. |
