All these close games with 2, 3 or 4 seeds vs 12,13,14 seeds...some really great teams this first round! WOW!

These scores are so low though, like junior high girls games low. It's like watching blind Brownie troops play. Ugh!

I miss those 100 point games! Come on!!

Jr High girls ball is excruciatingly painful, I agree. High school gorls ball is too. I have a friend who claimed to know this - he said there was a statistic nationwide that someone had calculated with a masters thesis that a girls highschool basketball game, on average, has a stoppage of play every 7.4 seconds. If you watch and time it, that's about accurate.

I coach HS ball, and I love good D. There's some good D being played. It's also an issue of tempo control, though. The smaller schools can't complete athletically with the power houses, so they play a controlled game looking to keep it low scoring. It's easier to control the game to a slower tempo than it is to control it to a faster one.

New Mexico has 11 points at the half. ELEVEN. In the NCAA tournament. OMG.

I hope UNC keeps up with the momentum.....I want someone to break 100 points today, dammit.

Excrutiatingly low scores this afternoon!

Yeah, I saw that. Umm....OK. I'll go with ONE jr high girls team involved here.

UConn flirting with disaster! Barely beating Central Florida 77-71.

Sorry Claire - UNC didn't quite make it to 100.

Claire 03-18-2005 03:27 PM

Ah, but they were close. :) Good to see a team coming out and playing hard the entire game. My husband has a theory that teams that are so highly ranked come out and take it a little easy the first round. I know that Duke and UNC absolutely don't. If a player came out and took it easy, he'd find his butt on the bench.

So far today, I'm 8 for 8. :snap:

NC State--OK
Florida--OK, whew!
Iowa State--OK
OK State--OK
Connecticut--OK
Villanova--OK
North Carolina (Go Tar Heels!!)--OK
S. Illinois--OK
Syracuse
Louisville
Wisconsin
Duke
Michigan State (sorry, ODU)
Georgia Tech
Kansas
Stanford

Time to take a little break....I'm really pumped for tonight's games, especially GA Tech and Duke. My husband and I are battling in the Stanford game. Other than that, we boringly (is that a word? :D ) have the same picks. He can't believe I picked Stanford. I only picked them because I never do. How's that for strategery?

Claire 03-18-2005 06:26 PM

Duke's got me nervous. Coach K is reaming them right now. I expect they will perform their hearts out in the second half!

And Syracuse! Sheeessh!!! These games have me sweating!!!

scaeagles 03-18-2005 07:49 PM

What a great game - Vermont over Syracuse. When that kid hit from 28 feet I knew they had it. That's what the tourney is all about - I don't care that I had Syracuse winning a couple. Watching a group of kids jump around the court after winning what no one expected them to is the best part of this tournament.
