My friend said, "they are at Cheeseburger in Paradise and they say CiP on the other side."
After checking http://www.cheeseburgerinparadise.com/, I see there are none on the West Coast, but there's one in Indy. I may have to make a Gen Con side trip next august... |
Cool!
|
I know this would be better suited in the Disney sub-forum, but it doesn't warrant its own thread.
Which is the better Wolverine? |
Before looking at the link:
If the answer isn't Jennifer Grey then it is a faulty answer. After looking at the link: Faulty answer but of the choices provided: Stitch |
Quote:
|
No, just the logic of the options provided.
|
Jennifer Grey?
|
Of course. I suppose you're going to say something nonsensical like "no, no, C. Thomas Howell is the best Wolverine."
|
Honestly Alex, sometimes you're just totally off your rocker.
Clearly, Woody Allen was the best Wolverine. duh! |
At least my answer makes sense. Your answer is just some comedian setting up a bit.
Look, I'll accept Lea Thompson as a secondary answer but her case is weakened by failing to make the ultimate Wolverine sacrifice. |
I can see Lea Thompson in the role, especially if she was paired with Amanda Plummer as Sabretooth.
|
What are you talking about? She's too old now. Back when she was the second best Wolverine she was at her prime. Now her demise would be fast and certain.
|
Who is too old: Lea or Amanda?
|
Lea Thompson. Amanda is not in contention. We're discussing reality here, not fantasy woo woo.
|
No woo woo, huh? So I guess you would not support Uri Geller as Wolverine.
|
Nope. This is the complete list of candidates for the question "Who was the best Wolverine?":
Hugh Jackman Steven Blum Rikiya Koyama Milo Ventimiglia Patrick Swayze C. Thomas Howell Jennifer Grey Lea Thompson Brad Savage Doug Toby Chris Hemsworth Josh Peck Josh Hutcherson Connor Cruise Adrianne Palicki Edwin Hodge Alyssa Diaz Julian Alcatraz Isabel Lucas As I'm sure you will agree, the only obviously correct answer is Jennifer Grey. Probably doesn't hurt that she is arried to Clark Gregg who is Agent Coulson who can probably get her in contact with Hugh Jackman via the cross-over comic movie that I am sure is being contemplated to eventually exist. |
I concede. Your arguments are too sound.
|
Wow, yeah, that tiki glass was really something, and I DO love me some Cheeseburger in Paradise. Is the one in Vegas gone?
|
http://www.cheeseburgerinparadise.com/locations/ does not list a Vegas location.
|
|
Um.... no. "Treat" implies it's food, and those are not.
|
Processed cheese food implies it's food, but I'd argue that one as well.
|
Processed cheese may not be food but sometimes I just gotta have it. My coworkers gave me a ration of carp over my cheese-in-a-can but too bad. Love it.
Sometimes. |
|
I'm guessing that's not them in the photo. But it's just a guess.
|
Alex wins a cigar!
|
Who are those guys?
|
The Beatles
|
Come on GD, they're obviously The Go-Go's!
|
Well that was scary!
Thanks to GD and everyone else who brought LoT back tolife! |
I sent an email.
|
I'm still grateful. :)
|
Yeah! And that picture is not the Beatles. Maybe Hanson??
|
Well, we got a good amount of rain today, including some thunder & lightening! Nice little summer rain storm! We sure can use it! I got 0.17" at my house today.
|
Whoo! Thanks, GD, for sending the email that resuscitated the LoT!
|
So, it's still raining, after a break the first half of the day. I show 0.40" so far between yesterday and today, but the news said Garden Grove had 1.25" yesterday. Not sure where that rain gauge was, but I'm in the top part of GG and that meter could be 10-12 miles away.
More to come tomorrow! So what's happening in your neck of the woods? |
Was really enjoying the lightning show yesterday and impressed by how closely the thunder followed it.
Lots of work. Dinner tonight with friends. Watching Tour de France coverage. |
Searching for that thread on the anti-gay apple orchard...oh, and selling cheese.

So.....I got an email from PayPal telling me that they can't contact me because my email address is not good, and to please add a new address to my account. But my email address is still good, I have had it since the late 1990's. I still get my eBay payments through that email address. And most importantly...
I GOT THE EMAIL NOTIFICATION THAT MY EMAIL ADDRESS WAS NO GOOD THROUGH THE EMAIL ADDRESS IN QUESTION.... And when I sent them a message, I got a canned response on how to add an email address to my account. Gee, thanks! |
That reeks of phish.
|
You would think, but it was sent to me with my full name (most of those types say something like "Dear Paypal user" or "attention card holder". And when I went to my account (directly- not clicking on a link), it has the same message. Yet everything still works fine...
|
Phishers can get their filthy little mitts on real names.
|
The key question was, did they try to get you to click through a link in the email to sign in, or did you go directly to the site to follow up?
|
Yes, there was a link in the message, but I never click on them. But when I go directly to my account, the same message is there. Yet, there is no problem with my email at all. They even send me emails through that email address.
The irony is that they sent me an email that stated they can't use this email address to send me emails. And then when I send them an email trying to get it fixed, I get an email about how to change my email address. |
New Year's Eve Underwear Traditions from Around the World

So only one more day until I take my motorcycle skills class..... And I have my learner's permit so I legally *can* go play in traffic once I get a bike... Scary, isn't it?

Be safe and have fun alphabassettgrrl! :)
|
Thanks! I've been looking to do this for quite some time now.
|
I use to ride. Sharing the road with other vehicles as a bike rider takes a whole new level of defensive driver. Always act as though you are invisible, and always wear a tented face shield so no one can see who you are when you flip them the bird! ;)
|
Tinted shield- LOL!
Yeah, I plan to ride as the invisible girl, with psychic radar to locate the idiots. Today was trippy. I did ok up until that countersteering/turn thing. Took several tries to start to get the hang of it. |

I've seen it! And am amused at the joke.
In other happenings, I finished the motorcycle class, and I passed, so now I have my license and we bought me a bike! Took it through a canyon and up to Ojai today. Lots of fun. Got a used Ninja 250. |
That's great! Have fun, and be careful out there!

In other stuff, husband and I took his motorcycle up to Death Valley for a couple of days to take pictures of the wildflowers. Kind of an experiment, to see how it is to take a longer trip like this on a bike, and it worked out pretty well. The bike's pretty comfy. Do the tax laws change daily?
Because I'm cheap, I've been taking advantage of Subway's $5 footlong of the day specials. In the morning, I get a breakfast sandwich (the exact same one every day) which costs $3.95 and a $5 footlong for later. The footlong sandwich changes every day, but it's always five bucks. I always go to the same store.
After a while, I realized I wasn't paying the same amount every day, so I started keeping my receipts. For the last three days, my totals have been: Tue: $9.29 Wed: $9.71 Thr: $9.31 The sandwiches always total $8.95. It's the tax that varies. I always get them to go. I always get the breakfast sandwich heated and the footlong cold. For the life of me, I can't understand what's going on. I plan on bringing the receipts to the manager, but I wonder if anyone here can shed some light on this. |
First off - based on the range of tax ammounts, you're only being charged tax on the breakfast sandwich (I'm guessing the breakfast sandwich is hot, the $5 footlong is not? California law, the hot sandwiches are taxable, cold are not).
Why the difference? Don't know. Possibly a difference in how they decide to charge it at the register causes the computer to decide different sub-totals are taxable? What's sales tax where you are? |
Quote:
Quote:
I know food tax laws are pretty wonky. Hot vs. cold, prepared on premises vs. not, etc. I figured tax jazz was entangled in this pricing oddity. I went through my debit card history. On 6/2 I got charged $9.76, so there's a fourth variation. |
That is so strange. If it bounced back and forth between two figures, I could understand. But four? Maybe the tax is being charged on the full retail value, and each sandwich is a different price that is on the daily $5 foot long special. I don't even understand why the tax should be different for hot or cold, take away or eaten on premises. Tax laws are funky.
|
Quote:
At 9% tax, the $9.31 figure is probably what it's "supposed" to be. That works out the the correct 9% tax on a $3.95 hot sandwich. But I'm still betting that there are different ways the items can get rung up (as separate items, some sort of combo, a lower price something or other + a fee...) that end up with some slightly different value being used to calculate the tax. |

Some day they will be able to print you new body parts. They have tested the theory by using bacteria in the cartridge to make sure they survive the process, and they can use your own stem cells so your body won't reject it. The advancements in science is absolutely staggering, amazing, and frightening all at the same time! |
So?
|
So it's kinda quiet here
|
Yeah, it is. Is it Facebook? I find it hard to carry on a conversation there. But one only has so much time for social media I suppose....
Sooo... I entered a contest on the website of 104.3 MYFM radio. I was last week's finalist to win a Nissan Leaf electric car. I'm one of only 18 finalists, therefore I have a 1:18 chance of winning the car. Now I have to figure out how to pay $10,000 in taxes and charging station installation should I win. Third world problems for sure. I suppose I could check with my credit union for a loan, but I don't need the extra loan payments. I will certainly be contacting my tax consultant for sure. I also hear that I need to argue the difference of "fair market value" to "Manufacturer's suggested retail" price for what the taxes will be based on. Or, I could see if the dealer will just buy it back. I don't really need a second car as my wife hasn't been able to drive for about 10 years. She may be able to drive some time in the future, but it may be years. |
Or just sell the car, pay the tax, and walk away with the cash difference.
ETA OR, I could read your entire post and realize you'd already considered that option. |
1 in 18 ain't horribly odds, good luck!
I agree, selling it for cash sounds like the best option. |
I'm leaning that direction. Not only would I end up with a loan payment, but also higher auto insurance. And Health Net has informed us that the plan we are on will be cancelled as of December. I'm sure it's so they can sign us up for a higher plan with less benefits and higher deductible. As if $2,400 a month for me and my wife isn't enough! That's a house payment for cripes sake! So I don't need the extra bills right now.

Ouch!
Yeah, definitely sell that puppy. |

Hmm, what's new since whenever? I'm married. I've switched my lavish spending habits from madly extravagant parties for dozens to madly extravagant world travel for two. I have two white poodles, brother and sister, whom I adore and who adore me. I still spend an inordinate amount of time on sound and image projects. My hair is turning gray. That's pretty much it. |

Everything old is new again and I'm back to clerking. The basement that flooded last November is still a disaster. And right after that my MIL revealed what she really thinks of me, which has made things awkward. Wall-to-wall stress. But Disney in a month, so there's that.

I'm very happy to be back on the LoT- I really don't care for FB, and seldom post anything beyond cat memes and the occasional political post. (Mostly to draw out the lurking Trumpsters so I can whack-a-mole their sorry asses).
I've been doing much of the same as when I last posted here- still doing the hair thing, kid is raised and finishing her bachelor's degree at Washington State University, and will be applying to their Masters in Teaching program when she graduates. Eric and I broke up about 4 years ago, and Tori and I share an apartment with our kittehs, who are getting older and weirder with each passing year. (One of them is wiping his snotty nose on Tori's laptop as I type).:p |

So nice to see the updates for everyone. Matthew and I are still happily together, getting ready to celebrate our 15th anniversary. I'm working as a writer in San Diego and still playing in numerous bands, as well as working on a book about growing up in Long Island in the 1970s to accompany my longisland70skid.com website (shameless plug). In a nutshell, happy. :)

This feels like a reunion
|
I need to be drinking more then.
|
It does kind of feel that way, doesn't it? Except that this reunion I love. My one high school reunion I went to? Meh. Probably won't do that again.
Congrats to all the good stuff!!!! |
Gah, I'm so excited to be posting on here again!!!!
Like mom said, I am currently finishing up my bachelor's degree at Global WSU, and am planning on applying for WSU's Masters in Teaching (MIT) once I graduate. Senior year of high school (which was horrible year, in many, many ways), I got extremely ill and missed over 4-5 months of school (still got a 3.9 though!)- it turns out that (after going to an immunologist) I had an severe immune deficiency. Apparently, I had been born with it, but doctors just didn't want to run a $200 blood test. Now I do weekly self infusions, and I can definitely tell a difference in energy levels! |
I forgot to mention the Sprocket. Being a mom is the constant bright spot in my life. Not really sure why I ever thought I didn't want to do this.
|
This is much better than a HS reunion! I’m going back to school for Art History and ultimately a probable MLS ( because what else do you go at 56?). I’ve also been performing a lot. So, lots new and different with me. But I still own my pet sitting company. I have to pay the bills somehow.

So, animals are flocking to our house to give birth. This spring, it was baby bunnies right next to the front porch. Now, it's a wren's nest in a hanging basket on the porch and tadpoles in the "pond" outside the patio door (patio doesn't drain well). What's next, I wonder?

It's funny; this is usually my down-time as far as work goes, but my time keeps filling up. Some of it is that my volunteer group has a gigantic project which keeps going, three days a week, a lot of weeks now. Work is busier than expected. But apparently I like it better than being bored. |
I'm reading philosophy again

We were at WDW last week. Friday night we went to MNSSHP. As we were in the trick or treat line, the lady behind us starts loudly griping about the nearby stroller parking area and all the young children present. Mind you, not because she was hit by one -- she was just philosophically opposed to Disney allowing strollers and young children into the park.
I realize this isn't a novel opinion and that I should no longer be shocked at how many lack any self-awareness. And yet, I am. |
But in other news, kiddo's Scrooge McDuck costume was a hit, so I was on Cloud 9.

I wonder if the Moon will be the next Everest: A destination for the wealthy who want to test their daring and adventure. In the future will it be littered with the wreckage of parts of spacecraft not needed for the return and the occasional body of a billionaire down on his luck. Will we have to endure their motivational speeches at the conferences we attend - the lessons they learned while ignoring their privilege.

Don't forget their inspirational memoirs, coming to a B&N near you.

Hummus: the most perfect snack food? Discuss.
|
Hummus works as a snack food, yes. I need to eat more of it, though, since I tend to forget I have it.
|
Hummus, yes. Thank you for reminding me I need to buy more tahini. I made some last week, from scratch, including soaking and cooking the garbanzo beans. was very good, processed 3 full minutes in food processor and it was light and very creamy, not heavy. Needed more garlic, fresher tahini (it was the last of my can and was a little old tasting) It is one of the world's most perfect foods, as far as I'm concerned.

On Monday, my MIL took my son for a walk in the neighborhood behind ours, as she often does. She thinks the houses in that neighborhood are better than mine, and mentions this a lot. It's probably true, as they also cost twice as much as mine. Apparently while they were on the walk, she spotted a house for sale. And called the realtor to arrange for a showing. And while they were on the tour, told my son, who is 3, that mommy and daddy were going to buy him that house and it was going to be his new home.
0.0 And that was not her only shenanigan of the day. The things she does - if they were in a script, the producers would demand a rewrite because they were too unbelievable. |
