It snowed on me this morning in Detroit. The perfect kind of snow - the kind I got to leave! A beautiful dusting, enough to make everything pretty and pack a few snow balls, but leave the streets ice-free and drivable, and the airport operational. Even got to see the whole plane de-icing process which I've always been curious about.

Unfortunately my sister and her family were continuing their trip, heading from Detroit to Chicago, straight into the mouth of the beast. A truck jack-knifed 100yds in front of them, and now they're snowed in somewhere in between (warm and safe, thankfully). I'm thankful to be back in sunny SoCal.

Channeling my mother and trying my hand at candies. So far so good. Peppermint Bark and Fudge turned out well. Now Divinity. Next up toffee. My mother would freak about all this for weeks. I'm not seeing what the huge deal was, none of it so far has been all that hard.

My mom said she tried davinity, but could never get it the right consisity.

New this year, I'm going to try chocolate bark. That is, dark chocolate and milk chocolate marbled, with a white chocolate wood print on the top, and almonds on the back.

It sounds like you're doing great so far! I've never been able to make divinity, that was actually good. I hope you have better luck.

Maybe Mom just made bigger quantities or sometimes it fun to seem like you've slaved forever on something, just to get the appreciation :D

I've made most of my fudge already. I have mint, peanut butter, Andee's creme de menthe and white chocolate peppermint. I need to make plain chocolate and maybe a chocolate with toffee bits( Gary's new idea). I think I have about 12 pounds so far!

I've got a big ole bump on the side of my neck. I think I'll call him "Charlie".
