The Prisoner returns!

Wow, just happened to catch an ad for this!

AMC is doing a remake of the Prisoner, with Jim Caviezel (of, among other things, Passion of the Christ) and Ian McKellen. First 2 episodes air back to back this Sunday, with 6 episodes currently slated to air.

It was not filmed in Portmeirion. Namibia instead.

I'm watching it. Definitely. I don't hold high hopes of its quality, but I definitely have to see what they do.

I saw the commercials and it looked like a MMP trailer. I'll watch.

I'm curious how they tweak this one. I downloaded the extended trailer on iTunes and it has me intrigued - seems a bit more action/adventure than psycho drama than than the original, but still seems to have a lot of psychodrama to keep me interested. I only hope they keep things mysterious/absurd and don't try to explain things too much. Also glad that Rover is still there, Bigger it seems through the brief clip makes him look like he might be a CGI construct instead of a weather balloon.

Do they still have a shortage of fondue sets?

I was a great Prisoner fan when it first aired, and when PBS broadcast it with a psychological commentary. It was a profound piece of work.

I've been anticipating this since I heard about it. I hope that they don't dumb it down for the modern audience, but I won't hold my breath.

Is six episodes all it will ever be or are they hoping to ramp up a regular series? A radio commecial today called it a "mini-series event" which I'd be up for, but if it is planned as a series then I'll likely wait.

It's my understanding that this is a mini-series.

Ouch!

The "definitive resolution" comment troubles me the most - I want monkey suits, the British motorway, dem bones, and all you need is Love

I detested the finale of the original series, however my issue wasn't that it didn't have a definitive ending, that's for sure. I was in no need of it wrapping up into a neat little package, I just didn't like the complete shift in tone and style the last couple episodes took on, it was jarring and didn't at all fit with the rest of the series, imo.

Although, in that sense, if the finale is a disappointment then I suppose they will have successfully recreated at least part of the original series experience for me.
