loved Annette, the hukilau, and the real sound of waves and birds in the background! very pleased to hear that Disney treated you so well during and following the merch event.
thanks for the podcast. now get back to relaxing in the island breeze!! |
Very cool Podcast. Your story about the merch event was amazing. That'll definitely show non-Disney geeks part of the reason we love Disney so much. I can't believe they refunded your entire ticket! And it's good to hear that that occured in 2000, during Pressler's evil reign.
I loved that you included the Hawaiian War Chant from the Tiki Room. It is one of my favorite pieces. A long time ago and far away (at another board) I once started a thread asking if anyone knew what the lyrics meant. No one did, so I went on a search to find out what the deal was. Apparently it's all gobbledygook, was a hit back in the swing era, and not written by Disney. When it was included in the Tiki Room it was instantly recognizable by the general public. Yet more proof that Disney has always used popular icons in its works. (I'm sure a music Disney geek like you knew all that already, but anyway.) :) Just before the TR went down for rehab we had a wonderful meet complete with hawaiian shirts and leis. I printed up copies of the War Chant lyrics so we could all sing along. I got pretty good at singing them too. :) |
what great fun that was, CP. thank you for the warm memory. i have a nice picture of that day...but, can't figure out how to post it. ahh. i'm sure someone else has some pics from that day.
oh, and you have a lovely voice CP! that was crazy, trying to keep up with those lyrics, in the dark. heehee, except for some dim cell phone lighting. ahh, good times. |
Mambo #5
the 5th Podcast is up...and it made MY day. ;-)

(sigh) Does this mean I have to break down and buy an Ipod? I wanna hear these!!!!!
|
I'm glad you enjoyed MP#5.
With all the talk of the TR, I should share with you an experience we had at the TR in TDL in Thanksgiving '03. When we went to the TR, we were among the only people there (big surprise), but in addition to the entertainment from the audio-animatronic actors, there was an extremely animated CM who danced and clapped through the entire show. It's rare to have a live cheerleader at a Disney attraction - it started out mildly annoying, but once we got into the spirit, it was a ton of fun. |
...and you don't need an ipod to hear the show.
