Sh*tty Mix Tapes!

Contest Results Here

The whole concept has me boggled... but also thinking of songs that would be sh*tty on this kind of mix tapes. And I'm thinking... what about other types of mixed tapes - you know... the kind you gave the guy/girl you really liked. What would make that crappy?

Haha, just flipping through the TV and I passed up VH1, and they had a clip of Def Leppard, and I thought "Sh*ttiest Mixed Tape for Rick Allen."

Hmm...

I would give my right arm to come up with a witty answer to that question.

No it wasn't

It was awesome. (If I had mojo, I'd have given it... it's funny, and I've relayed his response to no less than 5 people who gave hearty guffaws...)

My mix tape from hell might include:

- A medley of the most common wedding or event songs (YMCA, the Chicken Dance, that stupid Gary Glitter "Heeeeyy!" song. They all irritate me into fits.)

- "You Had A Bad Day" - I don't even know who sings this, but I have conniptions every time it comes on, which is just about every time I go into a public place.

- "I Don't Want To Wait" by Paula Cole - Yes, this was in the video linked in the original post. Funny thing is, I liked a lot of the other songs on the album this came from, but, on first listen, I remember thinking, "Wow, this song is awful, which means it will be the hit single from this otherwise interesting CD." I was right. My biggest peeve - "Say a little prayer for I" What? A little prayer for I!?! Ack!

"Breakfast at Tiffany's" - Again, I don't know who brought this tiresome earworm into existence, but it needs to go back to whatever hell it came from. About a decade ago, you simply could not get away from this damned song. (I'm cool with Moon River, on the other hand.)

"Walking On Sunshine" Katrina and the Waves - Don't it feel good? No, it sure don't.

"Sleigh Ride" - This holiday perennial gets a bah humbug from me no matter which of the zillion versions I hear beginning about September 25th each year. Special bonus agony for the boppy Debbie Gibson version.

Mambos as a category (but especially "Papa Loves Mambo" and the relentless "Mambo #5")

Just to set my mind into a positive groove again, let me end by naming a song I love. "Marquee Moon" by Television. Aaaah, that's better.

As a recovering wedding DJ, I fully understand. How about adding to that particular tape:
  • Ol Time Rock n Roll
  • White Wedding
  • What I Like About You
  • Love Shack
  • The frickin' Macarena

I could go on, but why?

Former wedding DJ? You have my deepest sympathy. I couldn't do it.

Oh, and Macarena, yeah, that just about goes wihout saying, but, yeesh!

Please add "This One's for the Children" by New Kids on the Block. I loved them in the 80s, but that song bugs the poo out of me!
