The end of HISTA

HISTA is closing down November 17th and is going into refurb.

Captain EO will be coming back after the refurb for encore performances in January 2010 when the theater reopens. Should be running for a few months, at least until WOC opens in the Spring. After that....who knows. WDI is throwing around various ideas.

Should be an interesting Winter for Tomorrowland.

Chernabog 11-08-2009 10:13 AM

Yay to the end of HISTA!! Captain EO is good cheesy fun -- I just watched it again on youtube.

Hopefully afterwards won't be Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor (did they really intend for the acronym to be MILF?!?) We sat through a performance of that at MK, and, like our own beloved Innoventions, the best thing about it was the air conditioning. It's basically Turtle Talk with monsters, but they have cameras pointed at the audience so that they can make fun of/with people during the show. I think it'd be cute if you were in the under-10 crowd, but that's about all.

cirquelover 11-08-2009 10:38 AM

Well now my son will be begging to go back to DL so we can catch Captain EO. It was time for HISTA to go though, curious to see what they permanently put in there.

Gemini Cricket 11-08-2009 11:49 AM

Yay! No more HISTA!
:)

dlrp_bopazot 11-08-2009 12:01 PM

Hey you should send this idea to Disneyland Paris management.

lashbear 11-08-2009 05:24 PM

Wolfy - Do you mean a sparse winter for Tomorrowland? What else is down?

O. M. G. here's hoping junior doesn't try to look up THAT acronym on Google. I'm shocked !!

(but I giggled when he pointed it out, just the same)

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 11-08-2009 06:12 PM

If they put THAT M.I.L.F. in Tomorrowland, I'll be spending alot less time there...

alphabassettgrrl 11-08-2009 11:01 PM

Yeah, I see no need to go on MILF.

Cap't Eo, on the other hand, I want to see. Unknown if I'd go back multiple times, but it can't be as bad as HISTA as far as repeatability.

wolfy999 11-09-2009 07:31 AM

Talked to some people last night......no confirmation on this, just rumor amongst the CMs. One can only hope!

Nothing else will be going down that I know of, but come January it might be a tad busy back in my corner of Tomorrowland if this happens.

flippyshark 11-09-2009 08:19 AM

The cast and performers at MILF are not only aware of their hilarious acronym, they use it almost exclusively to refer to the attraction backstage.

I can also tell you that at least some of the people responsible for the show had no clue and had to be told what it meant.

blueerica 11-09-2009 08:42 AM

I will have to make the trip to see Captain EO.

I'm not even sure if J has ever seen EO.

The Lovely Mrs. tod 11-09-2009 10:53 AM

My young 'uns (21 and 20 in December, respectively) are practically frothing at the mouth to see Captain EO on something bigger then a 17" PC monitor. I myself don't really remember it that much, I think it was 4am the last time I saw it after waiting in a line that stretched down Main Street and out the tunnel.

MILF, however, is a big hit in my end of the Burbank studio ghetto.

Andrew 11-09-2009 11:18 AM

I'm very much looking forward to seeing EO one more time. There was one time in the early 90s when a friend and I were strolling through Tomorrowland when we saw ... someone ... in a full head-covering turban, escorted by a gaggle of security and plaid guides, headed directly towards the Magic Eye Theatre. We couldn't see the person's face but the body movement was unmistakeable.

Frikitiki 11-09-2009 12:56 PM

Where is this coming from? I thought that Iger and some other execs decided not to bring back EO.

That is a SCREAM !!!

get it.. scream? Nevermind.

RStar 11-09-2009 11:45 PM

Well, if MILF isn't where you want to work, you could join the FART; from Al's DIG report in 1998:

Quote:

The "Fast Action Response Team" [Called "FART" for short among the unhappier CMs, and I'm NOT kidding about this] is basically overwhelmed from the time they start their shifts until the night crew comes in.
Link to said report

Gemini Cricket 11-10-2009 12:47 AM

Ha ha! Take that, stupid HISTA.

Kevy Baby 11-10-2009 11:58 PM

So, one doesn't need to take an anti-HISTA-mine when they go to the park anymore?

Thank you. I'll be here all week. Tip your waitresses.

Mousey Girl 11-11-2009 12:25 AM

I have never seen it. We are going on Monday. Is it worth seeing?

Frikitiki 11-11-2009 12:29 AM

you should see it at least once so you have a measuring stick for future 3D attractions.

No. But you should go so you won't have to wonder any more.

in WDIs deference, they did intend to call it MILFCC (Monsters Inc Laugh Floor Comedy Club) and even had the signage installed and it was changed to drop comedy club at the last minute... allowing us to laugh and snicker for many years to come about the acronym without going in it...

wolfy999 11-14-2009 03:07 AM

Confirmed....HISTA is history. Date closing is anywhere between the 17th and the 21st, no one is really sure on that one.

RStar 11-14-2009 10:09 PM

Cool! Confirmation! :snap:

Now, what do you know about 2012? ;)

All I know is that it got a low rating on rottentomatoes.com but it's going to be number one this weekend.

I meant the date, not the movie.

But, I'll see the movie just the same. Rotten tomatoes or no rotten tomatoes. I'm a sucker for disaster/action movies and special effects. Of course good writing and acting help......

Frikitiki 11-15-2009 09:53 AM

I wrote a review on my blog, The Tiki Outpost, of the Movie 2012

That's the problem with reading rather than hearing the answers, I wasn't quite sure. Not that it matters much, but confirmation on the world ending would be kinda nice, I suppose. At least I could quite worring about my 401K (or lack there of).
