Creepy, Spooky, and Altogether Ooky

Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth are staring in a Broadway Musical production of the Addams Family.

Gn2Dlnd 11-12-2009 12:49 AM

Wow!

innerSpaceman 11-12-2009 08:03 AM

Yeah, how am I going to afford a trip to NYC?

mousepod 11-12-2009 09:47 AM

I would have gagged at yet another cross-media revival, but the casting is spectacular. Count me in.

totally my first thought as I was pricing out orch level tickets.

I had heard this was coming up. I love it. Jackie Hoffman is hysterical. Love her.
:)

Strangler Lewis 11-12-2009 11:04 AM

Hmmm. I think the producers would do well to charge people ten dollars to look at the publicity photo and imagine the possibilities and then leave it at that. But I'm willing to be surprised.

Moonliner 11-12-2009 11:10 AM

Oh.

I thought this was a "Happy Birthday Kevy" thread.

My bad. Please carry on.

I don't want to be perceived as hatin,' but nothing about Nathan Lane says Gomez Addams to me.

katiesue 11-15-2009 05:21 PM

I gotta agree with Flippy.

Morrigoon 11-15-2009 05:28 PM

Apparently he's more like the original comic strip Addams.

innerSpaceman 11-15-2009 05:39 PM

Since when?

(Ok, I'm not an expert on the comic strip ... but I'm quasi-familiar with it, and Nathan Lane ain't anything like any Gomez I've ever read, seen, heard or smelled.)

That's not to say he couldn't be fantastic in the role.

I've long since learned to ignore the "oh he's so wrong for that" complaints. Wrong half the time.

(But only half the time.)

Morrigoon 11-15-2009 05:42 PM

Just going off an article I read

Deebs 11-15-2009 05:54 PM

I think Nathan Lane can easily look as wild-eyed as this:

But Lane is not as sexy as Raul Julia, certainly.

I thought RJ's Gomez was madcap enough, and waaaay sexier than John Astin. But I love Nathan Lane so much.

JWBear 11-15-2009 06:49 PM

The real question is can Lane look like this?

JWBear 11-15-2009 06:51 PM

For anyone here who isn't familiar with the original Charles Addams cartoons, here's the original Addams Family:

And here's America's original Adams family:

JWBear 11-15-2009 08:43 PM

Yes, but they only had one "d" in their name. <sniff>

Paging Peter Lorre....

SzczerbiakManiac 11-15-2009 11:13 PM

I don't think Peter Lorre can come to the white courtesy phone anymore.

flippyshark 11-15-2009 11:42 PM

My favorite ever Addams panel (and maybe the most famous) - I often find myself in this very situation.

JWBear 11-16-2009 11:06 AM

This is one of my favorites (and one of the classic cartoons that was recreated for the first movie).

Gn2Dlnd 11-16-2009 03:06 PM

^ What I love about the Addamses, is that they probably aren't dumping hot (cider? buttered rum?) on the carolers to be malicious, it's just something that they, themselves, would enjoy.

I always thought it was boiling oil.
