Disquieting Metamorphosis needs a Shower

1 Attachment(s)
Save the date (if youhaven't already). We're having the official LoT Baby Shower for little Mr. DM who's name really begins with "T" on Sunday, December 6th at 2 pm. Fun, games, food and play will be had. Evites are going out on Saturday. If you want to go and I don't have your email addy, please PM me.

Eliza Hodgkins 1812 11-20-2009 06:00 PM

Sadly must regret. My brother's 30th birthday is the same day.

RStar 11-21-2009 12:26 AM

Oh. I thought the Haunted Mansion was dirty.....

Morrigoon 11-21-2009 12:41 AM

Ugh... of course my parents would chose THAT day to want to meet the in-laws. But send me info anyway just in case!

wolfy999 11-21-2009 02:23 AM

Will be heading back from Frisco that day....so no chance for me.

Kevy Baby 11-21-2009 08:04 AM

We'll be there - wouldn't miss it!

Thaddeus? Hmm. Is that really how it is spelled?

Thaddeus Martin Sloan. Hmm.

Has a hauntingly familiar ring to it......

I think you know why. :D

Send me the info. 99% likely I can't go but 1% is always hopeful. :0)

Not Afraid 11-23-2009 12:08 PM

My Evite Contacts List is sadly very out of date. Please PM me your email addy if you did not receive an invitation.

Cadaverous Pallor 11-23-2009 01:55 PM

Hey - I didn't receive an evite. ;)

Not Afraid 11-23-2009 02:15 PM

Really? I just sent it again to your gmail.

Just a warning for all - this will NOT be like any other baby shower you've attended. It definately going to be a tweaked concept for this crowd.

Morrigoon 11-23-2009 02:17 PM

Good, because I'm not sure I could take another one of those "spread baby food on diapers and make the guests guess what flavor by smelling it" or "mold your chewing gum into the shape of a baby" kind of showers

Mousey Girl 11-23-2009 03:58 PM

I am still hoping to go. I will have a b-day boy in tow, so if thie is an issue for anyone, please let me know.

Prudence 11-24-2009 09:30 PM

Didn't receive evite - sent you my email. I think we can make it. I have that date in my head like it's a date for something already, but it's probably this, so we can probably make it.

Not Afraid 11-29-2009 11:14 PM

Bump Bump Baby Bump.

Gemini Cricket 11-29-2009 11:24 PM

I'll be there.

Is that what normally goes on at showers? Eew!

Unfortunately, yes. Besides baby food, I've also heard that they'll use melted candy bars smeared on diapers, and that you have to identify the candy by examining it closely.

That's usually why I avoid them, but this one, I wouldn't miss for the world. Besides, the hosts have class, and wouldn't even think of doing the typical tacky stuff.

mousepod 11-30-2009 11:24 AM

Heather is going to be hosting her 13-year-old stepsister this weekend, and won't be there - but count me in!

Enough of my friends have guessed this that I know I'm surrounded by wonderfully like-minded geeks. (I myself thought of this name back when we were choosing names and wanted something with a T.) Should have gone with T.K....

I've been to many baby showers over the years and only once did I play the diaper game. Melted candy bars. I had no issues smelling and even tasting the more questionable ones. I won the game. :D

Mousey Girl 11-30-2009 10:39 PM

The other game I don't much care for is the guessing the size of the mommy's tummy with a piece of string.

I DO like the finding the tiny safety pins in a bowl of rice.

Kevy Baby 11-30-2009 11:21 PM

I would come of there was a recreation of the conception

No. You got it wrong, LB. His name is going to be Tuba Ecdemomania Sloan,

Morrigoon 12-01-2009 12:40 AM

Tab. Yeah, Lash, they're naming him after a cool soda from our early childhood.

Disneyphile 12-01-2009 12:42 AM

I'm thinking he's Tristan or Trevor. Just sounds kinda hip.

Morrigoon 12-01-2009 12:54 AM

I was guessing something like Thomas

Disneyphile 12-01-2009 12:56 AM

Ooooh, hey.... or Tyler.

Is there going to be a guessing game at the shower? :)

Tab is a perfectly cromulent name. May I introduce you to Mr. Hunter:

in case the image is broken

lashbear 12-01-2009 05:59 AM

...Tab looks good on a diving board !!

...maybe they should call the kid Tresca instead ? :p

Chernabog 12-01-2009 10:46 AM

I just know they named him Track, since they are such closeted Palin freaks. I can see Russi...errr... Disneyland from my house!

Disneyphile 12-01-2009 11:02 AM

I got it!! I got it!!

T-bone

And, it even rhymes with the last name. He'd be the coolest kid on the playground. A little godfather of the sandbox. ;)

blueerica 12-01-2009 12:26 PM

Well, even if it's not his official name, I think we have to call him T-Bone now...

lashbear 12-01-2009 04:56 PM

Tefal ?

Not Afraid 12-01-2009 09:18 PM

T-Bone Sloan.

Teeheehee.

No, his name is Toilet because Sloan makes Toilets.

Ghoulish Delight 12-02-2009 12:51 AM

Toilet valves and drains, actually. Not the porcelain.

I'd quite gotten used to seeing my name almost every time I use a public restroom, but I don't think I'll ever be comfortable with the urinals at the Spectrum. The Sloan branding is right smack at the bottom of the urinal, on the drain, meaning using the urinal requires peeing directly on my own name. That's just wrong.

Strangler Lewis 12-02-2009 07:23 AM

Tevye?

Cadaverous Pallor 12-02-2009 09:11 AM

Place your bets!

If you don't guess the name, the money wagered goes to TA's college fund. If you win...um....too bad, because we really need the money for the college fund.

:p

Snowflake 12-02-2009 09:27 AM

Theodore Roosevelt Sloan

Mr. T Sloan (pity to poor fool)

Morrigoon 12-02-2009 11:24 AM

Tad?

wolfy999 12-02-2009 11:40 AM

Please don't let it be Terrance...?

Chernabog 12-02-2009 11:55 AM

Tinkerballa? (heheh sorry I just finished watching Season 3 of The Guild)

BarTopDancer 12-02-2009 12:23 PM

Tyrannosaurus-Rex.

Morrigoon 12-02-2009 12:56 PM

Oh, I've got it: Tipper!

Deebs 12-02-2009 01:18 PM

That was crazy -- I thought I was posting in the Tiger Woods thread. I moved it. Sorry you guys!

I vote T-bone!

That reminds me... My parents used to have a piece of antique silver that was stamped "ROGERS". I used to think it was an old family piece... Until I found out about the Wm Rogers Co.

Ghoulish Delight 12-02-2009 03:03 PM

When I was around 8 my parents purchased a small amount of Disney stock for me and my sister. Shortly after we visited Disneyland. My oh so clever dad said to me, "Now that you own stock, that means you own part of Disneyland. See, look!" and pointed to the Sloan/Royal on a uirnal fixture.

Fortunately at 8 I was well aware that my dad was full of it and gave him my usual, "Gee Dad, hillarious".

SacTown Chronic 12-02-2009 03:18 PM

The urinals used to bring to my mind Utah Jazz coach Jerry Sloan before I knew GD. Now, of course, I think of Greg and giggle a little -- not every time, though. I am almost an adult now, after all. So, possible good news GD, you've replaced a coaching legend in my public urination routine.

lashbear 12-02-2009 04:56 PM

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 12-02-2009 05:59 PM

* Probably not this exact model; this is the just the first one that I found.

"Another round, sweetheart."

"The name's Kitty. If that's too hard to remember, go outside and look at the window, my name's on it. And stop flicking your ashes on the floor."

"Bossy dame, huh? Just pour the drinks and scram."

"You guys aren't rough trade, you only think you are. If Sloan was still around, you wouldn't dare speak to me like that."

"T-Bone Sloan, the shamus?"

"Yeah, that's right."

"We hear tell he ran away to Northern California to grow grapes and lick his wounds. The no good peeper."

"He's not a peeper, smart guy. He's an investigator, licensed and everything. Hard guys like Troy Sloan don't run away. He'll be back. And he'll clean up this town yet."

"Sure sister, sure he will."

"Go on. Get out of here."

"We're leaving but before we do a word to the wise...T-Bone Sloan aint coming back. McMurtry runs this town now and we work for him. Be smart, sister, and understand that you need to go along to get along. A pretty dame like you needs a man to keep you warm and safe in this town. A man like me."

"Get out! When Sloan comes back you'll be sorry you ever spoke to me like that."

"All right, we're leaving. But you better think long and hard about what I'm telling you. Things are different 'round here now."

The men leave and Kitty stares wistfully at the swinging doors.

"He will be back. Some day."

Wow, what an awesome party. The food was great, games were lots of fun, everyone such good sports, and such generous gifting!

I swear, some of the games made me think I would die laughing. :D

You all make us feel so loved. What a special group we all are, and how lucky we are to be a part of it! :)

What he said!!!! I loved the pictures, and that you all (of course!) had such a great time, but it's bittersweet looking at them and realizing how much I miss you all. However, I console myself with the thought that, come June, I will see everyone again, plus a new SwankBabe!:)

GusGus made the cake. I just helped decorate it. :)

I'm so glad many people were able to attend! This was truly a group effort to plan en execute. Heidi and Tom planned the fabulous (and twisted) baby shower games, Chris was left to the house cleaning while I worked on Saturday, Susan made the fabulous cake and Teresa did the amazing fondant "carving", KatieSue made not one, but three amazing appetizers, DP brought chocolate covered fruit, Marla brought the sinfully delicious cheese dip, Trader Joes made the rest of the food and the wine and the guests all brought the cutest (and swankiest) damn baby gifts I've ever seen.

I'll upload my photos in a bit to share.

What great pictures! Just for the record, Larchmont Village was freezing, and I had a lousy farmer's market. I'd have much rather been in the cozy confines of the baby chower. Meh, I covered bills.

SO....we have a mystery on our hands.

There was a shower gift that went unlabeled. We tried to figure out who it was and no one owned up (read: I yelled at the bustling shower party throng "WHO BROUGHT THIS?" and no one responded). Since Katiesue left early, we assumed it was from her, but she has since stated that it wasn't.

It's a figurine of a cat playing the fiddle, sitting on a tree stump. Twisted wires spell "BABY" and are meant for holding photos or notes.

Mysteeeriooooous.....

That was mine.

Links to the pictures?

Here's hoping NA gets those photos up soon.

When she does you'll get to see the awesome gifts I received. I'm not sure if there's a photo of this one, so I took one to make sure everyone gets to see it.

It's the gag gift.
Spoiler:

I'm glad that it was outed here as a gag....perhaps my reaction was more polite than the prankster would have wished. ;) GD and I kept saying to each other, which of our swanky friends would buy such a thing?? Hehe.

Let's wash the taste of that gift out of our mouths with this awesome gift. I'm posting it because it wasn't at the party - we got it in the mail from the lovely Ms. Valentino herself, Snowflake.

Spoiler:

Yup - first mouseears. :)

I didn't know you can play a violin with a churro. That must be very handy.

LSPoorEeyorick 12-20-2009 09:25 AM

Who was the prankster?

Disneyphile and Kevy Baby made references to it but both of them denied responsibility...I think it may have been one of their spouses, in which case they definitely get an aiding and abetting charge.

The most ironic part is that because I wasn't sure who gave it to us, it has stayed out of the pile of presents we have packed away and is sitting next to me on the couch. I get to look at it every day...

MouseWife 12-20-2009 09:51 PM

Enjoying the blog, waiting to see pics...so happy to hear how wonderful things are going!!

I love to read how well informed you are!

And I LOVE the first ears!!!

Disneyphile 12-22-2009 03:48 PM

It wasn't Ken.

Both of us did see it prior to it being packaged, however, and agreed, "Damn. That's hideous. It'll be fun to see how long they'll be polite about it in fear of hurting anyone's feelings about its true tackiness."

Make sure you're clicking on her post, no the quote of her post in your post. It's working for me.

Who knew target gift cards were so funny!

Cadaverous Pallor 12-26-2009 11:45 AM
