Savvy Cephalopods

Haz skillz.

Disneyphile 12-14-2009 02:35 PM

That is cute! I've always loved octopi. They're very intelligent.

BarTopDancer 12-14-2009 02:49 PM

That's awesome!

Alex 12-14-2009 02:49 PM

Then there are the stories (I've heard it told about so many acquariums that I just assume it is a marine biologist urban legend, but I hope not) of giant Pacific octopuses escaping their tanks, eating fish out of neighboring tanks and then returning to their tanks.

I do know that some species learn mazes better than rats.

Ghoulish Delight 12-14-2009 02:50 PM

They can also open jars.

Alex 12-14-2009 02:53 PM

And I once watched a documentary on Nickelodeon that showed one operating a cash register and being irritable.

Gemini Cricket 12-14-2009 02:54 PM

Yeah, Ralphie studied these creatures. He said it all that time that they are indeed very smart. And, yes, leaving a tank to go to another one and back does indeed happen. Apparently, that happened at the Monterey Bay Aquarium long ago.

Squid. (well, that is also a cephalopod also, but all the stuff I've seen always involved octopi, not squid).

Alex 12-14-2009 03:27 PM

Shows what I know trying to reference a show I've never seen an entire episode of.

Chernabog 12-14-2009 03:51 PM

They are also very very delicious!

Capt Jack 12-14-2009 03:52 PM

so, come the human apocolypse, we now see who will be running things in a few million years

so, wont you join me in saying
'all hail our new cephalopod rulers!'

Deebs 12-14-2009 03:55 PM

Welcome, new octopus overlords.

flippyshark 12-14-2009 04:11 PM

Anyone see the "Future Is Wild" series on cable? They postulated a future species of tree-branch swinging octo-monkeys. I can't find any pictures, but it was a really cool show.

alphabassettgrrl 12-14-2009 04:23 PM

Fascinating!

Betty 12-14-2009 04:44 PM

I'm pretty sure they are aliens from another planet.

SzczerbiakManiac 12-14-2009 04:55 PM

Makes me wonder if I should convert to Cthulhuism....

Disneyphile 12-14-2009 05:10 PM

I have long accepted Cthulu as my lord and savior. :D

Prudence 12-14-2009 07:59 PM

Cthulhu fhtagn!

3894 12-15-2009 06:48 AM

I love that! Thanks, OP.

Bonus points to the video's narrator for use of two great words: "nifty" and "scuttle".
