I feel the earth move, under my feet

4.1 quake a few minutes ago. Centered in Milpitas.

Alex 01-07-2010 11:23 AM

I seem to have been the only one to feel it on the 6th floor of my Financial District building. Which is odd, I'm usually the the oblivious one.

I felt it too, my cubicle mate did not.

Gemini Cricket 01-07-2010 11:52 AM

I feel the sky tumbling down, tumbling down...

Yeah, thanks, now I have Carly Simon in my head.

Ghoulish Delight 01-07-2010 11:58 AM

You are mistaken. Earthquake weather is hot and dry. Anything that happens not during hot and dry conditions is not an earthquake.

Alex 01-07-2010 12:02 PM

Compared to my coworkers in Delaware, it is hot and dry here. Maybe, like humidity, earthquake weather is relative.

Gemini Cricket 01-07-2010 12:05 PM

I always think of millipedes when I hear "Milpitas". And, well, when I hear "Placentia" I think of... never mind, yuck.

Chernabog 01-07-2010 12:32 PM

http://twilightheadquarters.com/placenta.html

That is the grossest thing I have ever seen.
WARNING: It's really freaking gross. I am warning you.

Andrew 01-07-2010 02:44 PM

I was in a meeting (yay) at my office in Mountain View and we felt on medium jolt and then nothing else. Now I'm home and there is apparently no damage and the cats aren't noticeably more (or less) psycho than usual.

Hey! I grew up in Placentia!

alphabassettgrrl 01-07-2010 04:02 PM

Cherny, there are ::recipes::?????

Alex 01-07-2010 04:15 PM

Sure, presumably if you're going to eat it, you'd prefer it taste good.

That said, I'm not all that ugged out. If it weren't complete social taboo, and if it could be acquired ethically, and I'd if it weren't for an extremely heightened risk of food-borne illness, I'd be willing to try haunch o' human.

Placenta would fall into that realm of meat products I don't expect to be very pleasant but there's only one way to know.

What do you think of when you hear "Los Banos?"

Exactly what you'd think I'd think.

And whenever I hear "Pico Rivera" I picture some short Latino kid following Geraldo around.

Cadaverous Pallor 01-08-2010 03:05 PM

I won't be eating my placenta but I wouldn't begrudge anyone who did. Seriously.

I spent 9 months making a steak...why not get some nutrition out of it?

Ok, it's not really a steak. In fact, they say it doesn't taste good at all and needs some serious processing to get it palatable. However, if it were tasty, I'd be oddly tempted. A rare treat, eh?

Earthquake to Placenta eating in nothing flat. :D Glad to hear it wasn't too big a quake...

(BTW I thought quake weather was hazy...)

alphabassettgrrl 01-08-2010 04:01 PM

I could maybe see eating your own, but I don't think I could eat someone else's. Maybe if it were my girlfriend but even then... I think it would be a little wierd.

Then again, when faced with it for real, maybe it wouldn't be a big deal. Hard to say. For now? Wierd.

Gemini Cricket 01-08-2010 04:15 PM

Placenta: it's what's for dinner.

That's only in LA, but that's only because it's ALWAYS hazy. It's like saying the sun rising causes earthquakes since, afterall, every time there's been an earthquake, the sun had risen something within 24hrs preceding it.

Sorry hun, I'll still take c0ck: the other white meat. :D

Kevy Baby 01-11-2010 07:39 PM

I think we just had another one. Either that, or someone ran into our building in Santa Ana.

ETA: Apparently, it was a 4.3 near Banning

Alex 01-11-2010 07:45 PM

4.3, near Beaumont.

JWBear 01-11-2010 10:16 PM

We didn't feel it in Long Beach.

SzczerbiakManiac 01-12-2010 10:50 AM

Dog reacting to quake

JWBear 01-12-2010 11:28 AM

Check out the cat at about 28 seconds into this one

Its just a coincidence that the earthquake happened at that moment.. The dog was just laying there minding his own business and let out a huuuge gut-churning fart... and then the building started to shake and the dog was ll like 'damn what are they feeding me?' and decided to get the flock out of there quick!

alphabassettgrrl 01-12-2010 04:20 PM

Interesting. The dog reacted even before the shaking hit. The last quake we got here my dog just stood up and looked around nervously. Don't know how the cat reacted; she wasn't close.

Snowflake 01-12-2010 04:40 PM

No, I didn't feel it, but Haiti 7.0 today.

Seems I missed Haiti Vista.

I still prefer Haiti XP though

I just read about that. Yikes...

Moonliner 01-13-2010 10:25 AM

I'm probably behind the times on this but I just found out I could donate $5 to the Red Cross to aid in disaster relief via text message.

Text: give to 24357

Great for lazy people like me who still want to help

alphabassettgrrl 01-13-2010 10:56 AM

Thanks, Moonie! I saw that but didn't write down the number.
