Ok, this is REALLY weird!

We JUST got back home from celebrating John's mother's birthday at Macaroni Grill. On the way home, we were listening to BBC on the radio and they were talking about the Tasmanian Devil being in jeopardy of extinction. John was the first to check to see if TAS had been born yet and while I was waiting for my computer to come up, I thought, "Hhhhmm..... TAS. If he ever misbehaved, Jen could call him her little Tasmanian Devil."

Then I read your comment. What are the odds that we would've JUST listened to a program about them?!

Congratulations to Jen and Greg!

First of all, congratulations to the new parents. May all your days of parenting be as happy as this one, an if not, then may this one be good enough to get you through the first "I hate you and you don't understand me."

Second, and in honor of the good statistical education I'm sure Theo will eventually get:

The odds that you'd have just listened to a radio show on Tasmanian devils is relatively low. The odds that someone on this board would have recently had interaction with something that would have seemed relevant to a separate mention of Tasmanian devils and therefore seem noteworthy at this moment would be much higher.

Gn2Dlnd 01-09-2010 11:08 PM

Happy birthday little Theo! I'm so proud of you guys!

Love to see his cute little photo.

I've been home since around midnight, taking a necessary break to feed and love some rabbits as well as take care of a couple important things we thought we'd have a little more time for (install a car seat for example)

oh yeah, and get some sleep.

I miss Theo and Mom like crazy, but only during these brief moments of consciousness so I'm managing.

Hello, Theo.

SacTown Chronic 01-10-2010 09:18 AM

The guy talking on tv during the Jets/Bengals playoff game I was watching while GD was having a baby said that it was Chad Johnson's birthday yesterday.

Mazel Tov, you two! I often find myself wishing I was closer to this group, and rarely as much as right now.

Ghoulish Delight 01-10-2010 10:28 AM

we can only hope that should Theo turn out batsh!t insane it's of the Ochocinco entertaining (and marketable for millions) variety.

I am back at the hospital where I was greeted with the happy news that Theo has made the vital discovery that boobs are good! He had a good feeding and has been asleep for the last 3 hours.

it can't be overstated how much we appreciate everyone's comments, love, and support yesterday. Theo's got himself some great friends already.

There was mention of the baby timing things to interrupt NFL playoff watching.

In compensation, he seems to have arranged to make sure that none of the games are particularly worth watching.

Snowflake sent us an adorable set of mouse ears before Theo was Theo. They were so tiny and adorable.

That was before we knew the meaning of tiny and adorable:

But sizes be damned, Theo loved it and latched on with the death grip when I tried to take it away:

Everyone is right, you have to cherish those precious early moments, because they grow up so fast, and right before your eye:

We've been offline all weekend but following on Twitter & Facebook. Congratulations and welcome to baby Theo!

Ghoulish Delight 01-11-2010 10:51 AM

Yes, we're going home today. Don't know when. Kickout time is technically 11AM, but that's not a hard and fast rule here. We're hoping to dawdle long enough that we can stick around for a 5:00 breast feeding clinic (he's getting the hang of it, better every time, but the more help we can get while we're here the better).

He's been on a pretty regular schedule. Wake up and work on feeding for an hour or so, change a diaper, then back to sleep for 3 hours. This morning's brought the new development that after feeding he spends some time awake, alert, and looking around instead of just passing back out. Late last night, he took a two hour nap on my chest, I swear I'm tearing up just thinking about it. It's indescribable.

Mom's pretending to be a real human being for a moment and has left the room to take a walk around the hospital.

Now we begin the scramble to get what we can in order before heading home where the real fun begins!

SzczerbiakManiac 01-11-2010 12:51 PM

I remember being the safest and most cautious driver in the world when we brought our newborn home.

Alex 01-11-2010 01:52 PM

I think my mom let me help drive (while sitting on her lap, of course, she wasn't crazy or anything) when she brought me home.

Anything less will be evidence that GD & CP have fallen emotional captive to the fear-mongering Parent-Industrial Complex.

It's true. No amount of people telling you can really make you understand what it's like until you are there yourself with your new little bundle.

There's video. Doubt we'll post it, but I kept the lens aimed at the doc's head the whole time until Theo appears, didn't capture anything graphic. Unless you consider a slightly goopey newborn graphic.

I am proud of the moment the dr. commented, "He's the calmest dad I've ever seen." I had no idea how I'd handle the whole thing, but "Fascinated to the point of wanting to see (and succeeding) the whole shebang without flinching" was pretty close to dead last on my list of guesses.

GD has much to be proud of. I would have been a mess without him there to help me along. Any time he left the room and a contraction came on I felt like a panicked prey animal. Everything he did was right, and he never flinched, which gave me the confidence to face all of my own flinching with bravery.

Such love in this household. :)

-and that's the way it is supposed to be. Awesome...and Theo is SO cute!

So, if Theo inherited certain, um 'assets' from his father, the Bris today should be classified as major surgery

Learning how to play.

Ghoulish Delight 02-27-2010 01:42 AM

He spent a little more time playing this evening. We put a second toy within reach and he started swinging at both of them, with either hand (Right hand elephant! left hand rabbit! Baby twister!).

Okay, just gorgeous!

All of that tongue action going on....reminds me of when kids play and they stick their tongues out to help, what, help? LOL

Or, he is mimicking you talking. They say they do that, imitate our expressions. Hmm. If you say 'Theo', your tongue does come to the front. Aw....such a smart boy!!!

I know I don't see anyone much i.e. never BUT I would love to meet Theo. Oh yeah, and see you guys again. :D

Is there a sign up list? :)

I love the 1984 Olympic shirt in a video recorded by a mini cam corder and posted on the internet.

wendybeth 03-16-2010 09:31 PM

lol! I swear, every time I start wondering to myself what little Theo is looking like these days (babies change so fast!) you post an update. What a cutie.:)

Strangler Lewis 03-17-2010 08:49 AM

Very cute. And some of the commentary to the first video is also enjoyable with one's eyes closed.

cirquelover 03-17-2010 11:30 AM

Awwww! I remember baby bath time. I also remember that being the one time I was afraid being a new parent. The first bath was scary but after that I was good to go. I love the cup, baby's first shower.

Thanks for sharing him with us!
