Thurston, Kimchi and Joshua's Tree

Thurston: I didn't want Mom and Dad to miss the amazing sunrise on the snowy mountains so I woke everyone up at 5 am. Surely they can't be mad at me!

Kimchi:
After Mom and Dad got out of bed - again - we went to my very first National Park. Someone named Joshua lives there in a Tree - or something like that. Mom and Dad kept stopping the car to take pictures. They kept talking about this thing called "snow". I didn't know what that was, so I just continued napping in the back seat. But, there was lots of talk about this "snow" and another thing called "the Desert". Maybe it was Dessert they were talking about.

Then Dad woke us up from a nice nap to go stand in some very cold stuff.

We met Joshua there. I didn't like him too much.......

.....so I peed on him.

We saw some other person named San Andreas and Mom said he was a bad person cause he had a lot of faults. That's him in this picture. I think he is lying down.

Mom took lots of pictures but I don't know why she took this picture of the tiny man climbing the Yucky tree.

Thurston:

Mom made Dad get right under this giant rock. I bet she wanted it to fall on his head. My Mom is mean!

Mom took a wrong turn and we ended up on this really bumpy road with lots of puddles. I don't like puddles one bit. She finally stopped because of a giant ditch.

Now she owes Dad a car wash. Stupid Mom.

Mom promised us dinner but then she kept stopping to take more pictures of something called a "sunset". Both her and Dad were super excited by it. Weirdos.

Finally we got to have dinner!

And we even got treats afterwards. Mom and Dad said were were very good puglets today.

Now it's time for bed. We may have to have more adventures tomorrow and need to rest up for them.

MouseWife 01-24-2010 10:06 PM

Thurston I loved your travel blog!!

Ghoulish Delight 01-24-2010 10:10 PM

Where's Pug v. Buffalo Showdown 2010?!

Not Afraid 01-24-2010 10:17 PM

Thurston hasn't noticed Buff yet. I think I may have to lift him up to Buff's eye level.

flippyshark 01-24-2010 10:20 PM

This is a blog that needs to happen more often. Somebody give Thurston and Kimchi a travel budget, heck give them a series on The Travel Channel!

Gemini Cricket 01-24-2010 10:24 PM

Great pics!
:)

wendybeth 01-24-2010 11:37 PM

Too cute! :)

Btw, Thurston called you 'weirdos'. Is he a teen already?

wolfy999 01-25-2010 07:20 AM

Thanks for sharinga a "Pug's eye view" with all of us!

Betty 01-25-2010 08:32 AM

Great pics of Joshua Tree with snow! I thought it was special when we went through the day after it had rained a bunch but this is a treat!

Cadaverous Pallor 01-25-2010 09:11 AM

Hooray for the adventuresome foursome!

Kevy Baby 01-25-2010 10:47 AM

Wow. I knew U2 was popular, but I am surprised they named a National Park after one of their albums.

Not half as amazing as the 19th century Morman settlers naming those trees after the albumn!

Kevy Baby 01-25-2010 02:44 PM

Holy Carp: Mormons are clairvoyant?

Gemini Cricket 01-25-2010 03:08 PM

What? Bono's a Mormon?*

Note to Kimchi: DO NOT attack the Pit Bull

Not Afraid 01-25-2010 09:23 PM

Note to Pitt Bull: Do not bite the leg of my 14 pound girl even IF she has a death wish.

Note to Kimchi: If you think hydrogen peroxide is bad on a puncture wound when Mommy applies it, just wait until you see the vet tomorrow.

alphabassettgrrl 01-25-2010 09:44 PM

Uh-oh...

MouseWife 01-25-2010 09:49 PM

Ditto...

Wha' happened???

JWBear 01-25-2010 10:42 PM

????

katiesue 01-25-2010 10:47 PM

That just can't be pretty :(

While Loading the car to leave, Kimchi and Thurston took turns riling up the three neighbor dogs who were safely on the other side of a chain-link fence. Still, I didn't like them getting too close so periodically called or pulled them away.

I had just brought the leashes out to "buckle" them into the car, when Kimchi decides to give the dogs another go - only this time when I run over to retrieve her, I notice she somehow got under the fence and is being pinned to the ground by a pit bull. I start frantically calling, expecting to watch her be dismembered by the three dogs, but fortunately they stop, though Kimchi is still carrying on and I'm trying to call her to the fence. It's topped with barbed wire and extends around the property line - it would probably be a good two mile walk to get to the other side.

Fortunately Lisa arrives on the scene and is able to grab Kimchi from under the fence when she gets close. We pull her out, she's dirty, covered in drool with two puncture wounds in her leg. We clean her up and she seems to be doing okay.

We almost took he to an animal hospital in Joshua Tree, but she seemed to be doing okay, though its hard to tell what's her not feeling well versus her usually scrappy disposition.

We're home now and watching her, assessing each twitch and shiver to see if it warrants an emergency room visit. She'll go to the vet tomorrow, infection from the bite being our biggest concern, but she scared the hell out of me today. I hope she heals quickly.

Kevy Baby 01-26-2010 12:03 AM

Bad Kimchi!

Deebs 01-26-2010 12:07 AM

Visible under-the-fence-pug-grabbin' mojo for Lisa. Dang. Kimchi's a scrapper, but Lisa is a warrior woman. That would have scared me to death. What a dramatic conclusion to your desert excursion.

MouseWife 01-26-2010 12:11 AM

What Deebs said.

Wow. Scary.

Love that hydrogen peroxide.

Glad everyone is home and safe.

Gemini Cricket 01-26-2010 01:08 AM

Kimchi's like me. She likes the bad boys.
Wonder Woman mojo for Lisa.
:)

wendybeth 01-26-2010 01:40 AM

Jeebus! I'm surprised the Pit let her go- they usually don't. Poor Kimchi. I know she'll be fine, but how scary!!!!!

alphabassettgrrl 01-26-2010 11:16 AM

Good thing the pit let her go! Yay for Lisa grabbing Kimchi under the fence!!!

Cadaverous Pallor 01-26-2010 01:29 PM

Wow, I cannot believe that the pitbulls didn't just destroy her. :( That pug has some serious luck (if not smarts)!

Disneyphile 01-26-2010 01:51 PM

Sounds like pit bulls aren't into Korean food. ;)

Poor pug girl! :(

Glad to see and hear about the trip though! Looks like you've all had fun. :)

Gemini Cricket 01-26-2010 03:33 PM

You should have warned the pit bull: "Eating Kimchi gives you gas."
Which it does.

Well, I'm glad Kimchi is ok. I haven't really warmed up to her yet, I'm more in the pro-Thurston camp, but since she's such a lucky pup I should give her more love.

Betty 01-26-2010 04:41 PM

Poor pup. (they can be so smart and then the next minute so darn dumb)

So - this cabin in Joshua tree of which you speak... is it in the park? near it? inquiring minds need to know!

Not you! The other one!

lol

€uroMeinke 01-26-2010 05:00 PM

Took Kimchi to the vet this morning and she has to stay there till evening as they clean and drain her wound. I know she'll be okay, but have been worried sick about her all day. I just want her home again.

Kevy Baby 01-26-2010 05:04 PM

Does your vet sell stock? I want to invest.

alphabassettgrrl 01-26-2010 05:53 PM

Poor little pug girl! I'm sure she'll be home soon.

Oh, my. Sorry to rad about the pup's misadventures but glad she's home safe and sound and doing well after the vet visit.

Not Afraid 01-26-2010 09:27 PM

Our Little Nancy (as in Sid and Nancy) is home and is doing ok. They had to put her under today to cauterize abscesses and insert drains. Pugs and anesthesia is not always a good combination, but she did ok. She's not sitting next to us and moaning. She's on pain meds but they apparently aren't doing the trick. For such a feisty badass, she doesn't do well with pain.

To answer Betty's question......

The cabin is in the town on Joshua Tree. It is actually between Joshua Tree and 29 Palms both of which have entrances into the park. It is a small block cabin - probably built in the 50's. It was super cute but SUPER cold the first night. I would only rent it when it is NOT 30 degrees at night or 90 degrees during the day.

Here's a link:

wolfy999 01-27-2010 06:21 AM

Who's Nancy? I thought Kimchi was the victum....???

blueerica 01-27-2010 07:47 AM

Kimchi was out picking fights and being a bit of a trouble maker. Thus, she is Nancy of Sid and Nancy.

flippyshark 01-27-2010 08:08 AM

Does this mean Thurston is going to do a wicked cover of "My Way?"

wolfy999 01-27-2010 08:21 AM

Thanks...sorry but have no clue who Sid & Nancy are, so of course I was slightly confused.

An old favorite of mine -- haven't seen it in such a long time. Gary Oldman and Chloe Webb were great. Though, I don't know about Wolfette watching Sid & Nancy yet, Diane.

ETA:Is Kmchi AKA Nancy the scrapper home yet?

MouseWife 01-28-2010 12:48 AM

Yeah, how did Thurston take her behaviour? Was he walking around 'Oh no, you're going to get us into trouble.....'?

So glad that she is alright. You two do really go through a lot with your family!! {{hug}}

btw

Tonight we saw a show on Joshua Tree. It was beautiful! I love the little cabin you rented, but, was that rut in the road on the way to it?? And, really, only two people? :( We are three at the least.

Strangler Lewis 01-28-2010 09:44 AM

Glad to hear Kimchi is doing well.

The rut in the road was on a Geo tour that we were taking that was meant for 4 wheel drive vehicles. Driving through the vast, deep puddles is how the car got so dirty. Needless to say, the rut cause us to abort our tour. We were only in s faux-wheel drive vehicle.

The cabin is 800 sf. and has one bed. It would fit 2 adults and a child on a couch.

MouseWife 01-29-2010 12:28 AM

Thanks, Lisa! He is a big kid now. Hmm.

Oooo! My vehicle is currently working!! It looks so awesome.

I think the person who recommended that Thurston and Kimchi get their own show on the Travel Channel is on the money!!!

Even if you guys just start it out on YouTube. I've seen people get picked up that way. I've seen Ellen put things on her show. You have some swanky little pugs there. I would LOVE to watch 'The Adventures of Thurston & Kimchi'. Maybe you could debut them at Comic Con!

Oh gosh, I'm sorry if I'm rambling on silliness. I can just imagine you guys walking up the red carpet with them, Thurston and Chris wearing some cool hats. I can't even begin to imagine what you and Kimchi would be wearing. Kimonos? IDK!!

Not Afraid 01-29-2010 01:35 AM

No, Kimchi is a punk rocker. She's even got piercings now!

Her Harness is embossed purple and her collar is black leather with skulls and crossbones on it, but the skulls do have a red glitter heart. She doesn't get more girlie than that.

MouseWife 01-29-2010 10:30 AM

Of course!!! What was I thinking??? ;0)

Actually with her piercings and tubing she's kinda steam punk - we need to get her some goggles - and miniature Zeppelin.
