I feel like this should go in the WTF thread...

WTF indeed.

Quote: Seems to me like they're more interested in appealing to a child's sense of wanting something new, original and unique, then they are going after the kind of built-in audience a name like Rapunzel would bring >>>

But kids don't like new... kids like familiar... things they understand. Odd.

flippyshark 03-10-2010 01:25 AM

Wow, I detect trouble ahead. A lack of confidence on that level just can't mean anything good.

By itself, Tangled makes me think more of a live action tween comedy, or maybe a lightweight "chick flick" about a girl who works in a hair salon. It most certainly doesn't sound like a manly movie title, at all.

Cadaverous Pallor 03-10-2010 11:50 AM

I have to admit, the very idea that they are trying to reach across the aisle makes me want to see the film more.

I don't have much interest in more strong, spunky young princesses who are beautiful on the inside blah blah blah. As that link points out, Pixar has had nothing but success with their entirely non-girly films.

Changing the title doesn't mean much, though.

I am a complete fan of Disney's retooled Kingdom of the Sun aka The Emperor's New Groove. So, who knows?But...

There's a story in The Los Angeles Times about how Disney is renaming its version of Rapunzel -- and retooling the story, too, to focus on a young man named "Flynn Rider."

As opposed to parts of your body, evidently......:p

At least the trailer didn't mention the name of the movie yet. Perhaps there's time to change it.

I just realized the answer to the question posed in the subject of this thread:

What story doe the movie title "Tangled" remind you of?

The answer:
Spoiler:
NA's hair!

Strangler Lewis 03-11-2010 02:02 PM

I'm thinking they changed the name because it sort of sounds like "Wicked."

Not Afraid 03-11-2010 03:26 PM

I like the new title - a LOT!

Why? Did they change it to "a woman with a tangled mess of red hair leading a pack of deranged AP holders?"

Kevy Baby 03-11-2010 03:45 PM

Oh, the tangled web we weave

Gemini Cricket 03-11-2010 04:11 PM

He said weave.

Kevy Baby 03-11-2010 05:54 PM

Oh, the tangled merkin we weave?

No, that's "Twisted"....

Though I think that's what people may inavertantly call this film.

mousepod 03-12-2010 07:48 AM

If they wanted a bigger demographic, they should have called it "Up in the Hair".

Tref 03-14-2010 04:52 PM

Well, at first Tangled reminds me of the astronauts breakfast drink, but that is because I am really slow reader. When I get to the 'led' part, I realise I have erred somehow and begin the process anew.
