Tax preparation

Anyone else out there like me and procrastinating? I actually did finish them yesterday, this being the latest I've ever done them. This was because I knew I was going to owe lots. And I was right. Ick.

BarTopDancer 04-05-2010 05:36 PM

No, I did mine as soon as I got all my stuff. Already got my state refund and have to send that to the Feds.

Kevy Baby 04-05-2010 05:43 PM

I received my refund in January. I knew I was getting $ back and I had this weird goal to see if I could get it in January.

cirquelover 04-05-2010 05:51 PM

We worked on them all weekend. Hopefully we'll get them done next weekend. I really need to buy a couch!

alphabassettgrrl 04-05-2010 06:01 PM

I got the papers from our accountant; I need to review them, sign them, and get them back to the guy. For some reason I keep forgetting.

Stan4dSteph 04-05-2010 06:15 PM

Someone else is doing mine. Haven't gotten the forms back yet.

innerSpaceman 04-05-2010 06:18 PM

This is the first year in forever I can't use the simple return, so I did mine thru Turbo Tax over a month ago. But - ugh - they say I owe $5,000. I've been so busy trying to come up with that money, I haven't sat down and gone over the returns with a fine-tooth. I want to do that this week, and hope for some error that means I owe less $. I doubt that will be the case, but I can't fork over that kind of money without making sure I owe it. Of course, if I understood how to do this type of return, I could have done it myself in the first place.

I'm sure my returns will be postmarked April 14.

katiesue 04-05-2010 07:55 PM

I had an accountant do it. With all Mom's stuff I inherited, buying a house and then I had to do Estate taxes as well. I owed a scary amount - but I knew I would so it was in reserve. Looking forward to next year and a simpler return.

Ugh. Long story. Ugh will have to suffice.

Alex 04-05-2010 08:13 PM

I did them a couple months ago and owed so waited to pay.

Bought a new computer and didn't want to have to install Turbo Tax on the new machine just to file so I went ahead and did so over the weekend before shutting down the old computer.

Kevy Baby 04-05-2010 11:30 PM

For those who owe, you can file now but wait to pay until the 15th

€uroMeinke 04-05-2010 11:30 PM

I'm targeting mid April for completing this one

Snowflake 04-06-2010 06:24 AM

I'll be April 14th filing, too. I owe this year and have been saving pennies to pay it off.

blueerica 04-06-2010 07:15 AM

For once, I actually didn't owe money to the feds or the state. My taxes were simple enough that I felt comfortable enough to use the free software from H&R Block, then paid $10 for the state. It was super simple, and probably should have used the free stuff sooner. Got my return about a week or so later.

Ghoulish Delight 04-06-2010 07:18 AM

Finished in February, earliest ever. Refunds are long deposited. I Turbo Taxed it. Ours aren't complicated enough that I couldn't have done it manually, but they are complicated enough that it would have involved a fair amount of effort to do so, so I was happy to let the software do the work for me.

Betty 04-06-2010 07:33 AM

We had to mail ours in this year. With unemployment and a change of address, H and R block software wouldn't let us efile. Bah! It's going to take forever and a day to get our refunds.

scaeagles 04-06-2010 07:58 AM

I find even with somewhat complex returns - or at least what I consider to be somewhat complex (1035 exchanges this year, self employment income) - the price of the software is WELL worth it.

mousepod 04-06-2010 10:04 AM

Our accountant just finished our return. Between the fed and the state, we're getting back just enough to pay our property tax. Yay?

alphabassettgrrl 04-06-2010 03:15 PM

Whew- got the forms dropped off so the accountant can e-file. We're later than usual, so I don't know how long it'll take to get the refund.

Alex 04-06-2010 03:22 PM

I'll give you an advance on your return for just a small one time fee that works out to a 873% APR.

If you take me on this it will be my first small step to being a payday lender and finally I'll achieve my goal of being a pimple on the asshole of society.

Kevy Baby 04-06-2010 04:24 PM

If it makes you feel any better, I believe you have already accomplished that goal: congratulations!

alphabassettgrrl 04-06-2010 04:42 PM

Hahahah! You guys are funny.

Sadly, I am merely on the taint. I merely work in the banking industry for one of the major players in the world economic meltdown (one of the lightly less horrible ones, but still). Payday lending would finally get me that last little bit of the way.

Kevy Baby 04-06-2010 08:33 PM

Well, we wish you the best in your quest! You'll always be out little pimple
