The quake triggered a local tsunami warning which was canceled two hours later.

The Tsunami comment was from the local news (via Susan on IM)

So bite me

Morrigoon 04-06-2010 06:26 PM

Dude, who did Indonesia piss off? They've been getting the worst of things for a while now.

scaeagles 04-06-2010 07:17 PM

I think this explains it all.

wendybeth 04-06-2010 08:37 PM

We fight them all the time in MW's- the Indo clans can be right bastards and are infamous in MW's land.*

I felt this little 3.7 that just happened. Short jolty one.

JWBear 06-07-2010 06:03 PM

I was sitting at my desk in GG at 5:00. Didn't feel it.

I was IMing with Jen and trying to call Chris. That's probably why it was so small. Now, if I was IMing + on the phone + in the bathroom, then it would have been much, much larger.

Mousey Girl 06-07-2010 11:11 PM

Even The Boy now asks where you were each time he hears about an earthquake south of the Grapevine.

Now, had we been in Chicago on top of it all...

Kevy Baby 06-14-2010 09:28 PM

Just had one

No details yet - I just wanted to be the first to post :D

JWBear 06-23-2010 03:26 PM

5.0 in southeastern Quebec...

Stan4dSteph 06-23-2010 08:18 PM

I didn't feel it, but a lot of people in the area did.

CoasterMatt 06-23-2010 09:13 PM

Quebec's really serious about separating...

wendybeth 06-23-2010 11:33 PM

I was talking to a friend on Skype when it happened. He lives in Toronto, and was in a tall building when it hit, which is a bit scary. He's been through worse ones- he's from India, and they have some really strong quakes there. Still, he was pretty nervous.

Kevy Baby 06-24-2010 08:10 AM

I was watching the Mike Rowe Channel (also known as Discovery), and there was a promo for Build It Bigger where Danny was in a gold mine in South Africa, several miles underground when an earthquake hit.

No thank you!

Ghoulish Delight 06-24-2010 08:15 AM

It's worse than you think. The earthquake didn't "hit". The earthquake was triggered by the blasting they were doing to extend the mine. So the quakes were happening pretty much constantly. (incidentally, Build It Bigger is a great show)

Kevy Baby 06-24-2010 03:37 PM

Yeah - looking at the supports down there didn't give me warm fuzzy feelings about being down there.

I've watched Build It Bigger a few times. I mostly like it because he does a pretty good job of simplifying stuff in layman's terms. I just think that sometimes he makes it a little TOO simple. Although I love how Danny sometimes comes across as a total wus :D

Ghoulish Delight 07-07-2010 04:55 PM

Just felt one...or two.

Felt shaking, then there was a pause, then more shaking. Neither seemed very large.

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 07-07-2010 04:57 PM

yeah felt it in Simi Valley - thought I was having a fainting spell - nope!... Earthquake!

alphabassettgrrl 07-07-2010 05:02 PM

Gentle shaking here in Camarillo. Neither dog seems to have noticed.

wolfy999 07-07-2010 05:03 PM

I missed it again....dog did too. Hubby, Wolfette and friend felt it though.

BarTopDancer 07-07-2010 05:04 PM

Dammit Lisa! Stop going to the bathroom!

USGS said 5.4 east of Oceanside.

Promo-Man 07-07-2010 05:04 PM

5.9 centered at Borrego Springs

When I first read "east of Oceanside", I didn't think that sounded right. But it turns out that Borrego Springs is more east of Oceanside than I realized (as in, though it is about 90 miles, Borrego Springs IS east of Oceanside, which surprised me).

USGS is all over the place on magnitude. When I first looked, it was reporting as 5.7. It was later upgraded to 5.9. Now, it is showing as 5.4.

Prudence 07-07-2010 07:43 PM

We missed it. :(

innerSpaceman 07-07-2010 09:38 PM

If my co-worker hadn't said something, I might not have noticed it at all. When I did, it was a most pleasant rolling. I guess my negative reaction to the reaction is because she nearly panicked - and so when twitter and facebook naturally exploded with something actually happening, it seemed a bit overmuch. Anyway, my co-worker kept insisting it was a huge quake, and the sensation must have been dampened because we we feeling it from atop a tall building.

We're on the third floor.

Northridge was scary. Everything since has been quite fun.

Moonliner 07-16-2010 06:02 AM

I definitely noticed that one. It woke me up. I thought we got buzzed by a fighter jet (which happens every now and then).

WASHINGTON - A 3.6 magnitude earthquake woke the Washington metro region Friday, rattling homes and startling people.

The U.S. Geological Survey says it happened at exactly 5:04:49 a.m. about 3 miles under the earth's surface.

Not Afraid 11-05-2010 10:57 AM

We had a measly 3.7 centered in Long Beach this morning. I was driving so I didn't feel it. However, I can say that this is the closest I've ever been to an epicenter.

JWBear 11-05-2010 10:59 AM

Lisa!

Oops! Nevermind!

JWBear 11-05-2010 11:00 AM

Bill felt it.

Haha I was just looking at yahoo news and clicked on the Long Beach quake.... and my first thought was "Is Lisa spending too much time in the bathroom again?" :D

No, she was on the phone.

wendybeth 11-06-2010 12:33 AM

Thank goodness Lisa was driving. Had she been her restroom, it might have been a far more serious event.

Not Afraid 11-07-2010 12:47 AM

But, I WAS on the phone.

The first notice of this one said it was centered south of Long Beach which would put it in the ocean. But an item in the LA Times said it was centered around PCH and Anaheim Street. Kinda specific. Just missing the street address.

Is this specific enough? USGS now has a Goggle Maps feature for earthquakes.

Wow! I didn't know it was so close to us. No wonder Bill felt it so strongly!

ETA: I'm estimating it's about 1500 feet from our house.
