Would you have figured this out?
Some redneck in VA just got his personalized license plate revoked because it's coded hate speech. The plate read 14CV88. Do you see why it's a hate plate? I sure didn't. This article explains it.
I can honestly say, no, I would not
I know the 88 is code for Heil Hitler, in some circles (H = 8th letter of the alphabet)
I wouldn't have got it, but if someone pointed it out saying "that's code" I probably would have guessed white supremacy as I am familiar with the 1488 code. There's actually disagreement about where exactly the 88 comes from, but none of the options are inspiring.
Nope, I'm as ignorant about the code as the driver of the vehicle is about Islam:
"Everything I ever needed to know about Islam I learned on 9/11." |
I would not have figured that out, no.
I wouldn't have. Who sits down and actually tries to hard enough to decipher such things?
When you tell me it's hate speech, I can identify the 88 for the hitler/neonazi reference, but it's not something that would be obvious to me if I just saw it driving around. And I have no idea what the rest means (haven't seen the article, I'm guessing it says?)
As the article says, the tip off is the vehicle itself.

For those not inclined to read the article:
14: code for imprisoned white supremacist David Lane's 14-word motto, "We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children." CV: Confederate veteran 88: the eighth letter of the alphabet, H, doubled to signify "Heil Hitler" |

AND in a handicapped stall! Well, this person better be limping at the very least... |
Perhaps in Virginia the mentally handicapped are allowed to park in those spots....
I thought about Mythbusters and the love of blowing things up - like the twin towers
Well, it's a small world, but you wouldn't want to paint it. "14" is also used by the Norteño street gangs, because it represents the letter "n".
There are 88 keys on a piano, so I will now have to regard it as an instrument of hatred.

The Bechstein family were big Hitler supporters. That probably explains it.

I cannot fathom spending the kind of money that guy spent on custom graphics for a vehicle....to put references to things I hate on it. But I guess people whose very being is oriented toward things they hate rather than things they love...
... like our country or our race ;)
I love USC, but while dedicating my car to hating the bRuins sounds amusing... it's not something I'd spend 2 grand on a vinyl wrap for. Makes far more sense to spend that money saying positive things about SC.
On the silver lining front, we should at least give the guy credit for not belieing that 9/11 was a conspiracy between the American government and the Jews.
It wasn't? Oh, man. Gotta rethink everything now.
