Cemetery Screenings 2010

And for other cinematic consideration, Cinespia announced the star of it's season:

5/15 - Wizard of Oz

5/22 - The Thing

5/29 - North by Northwest

5/30 - Purple Rain

More to follow

BarTopDancer 05-04-2010 11:14 PM

Oooo the WIzard of Oz would be fun.

I wonder how bad the crowds are going to be this year, in general.

Cynthia 05-10-2010 04:02 PM

Is the cemetery too crowded to enjoy?

If you don't mind sharing space with a bunch of stiffs.... ;)

Depends on the movie - some are too popular for their own good. Pee Wee's Big Adventure is always a zoo, but Hitchcock nights always seem to be good. Generally the more obscure the film the lighter the crowd, or rather a greater number of those who appreciate it.

Cadaverous Pallor 05-10-2010 05:02 PM

What € said. Also, get there early to stake out a place in line and bring snacks for that pre-dinner period. It's pleasant enough and you'll be sure to get a decent spot when they let you in.

blueerica 05-11-2010 07:22 AM

Awww... I was just telling a co-worker about cemetery screenings!! How I miss them!!

innerSpaceman 05-11-2010 08:21 AM

Well, North by Northwest is Hitchcock, and that's the one that appeals most - I don't think I've ever seen it on a screen (or, in this case, a mausoleum wall).

Which version of The Thing? btw.

Wizard of Oz could actually be a fun crowd, come to think of it.

Anyone for any?

LSPoorEeyorick 05-11-2010 12:12 PM

We're in for something, for sure. Love me some Hitchcock in particular.

innerSpaceman 05-11-2010 12:27 PM

Just realized I couldn't do Wiz of Oz this weekend anyway. But I'd love me some NxNW!

Kevy Baby 05-25-2010 08:31 PM

We are going to North by Northwest this Saturday - anyone else in?

CoasterMatt 05-25-2010 08:36 PM

I NEED to go to this - North By Northwest is one of my all time favorite movies - just need a ride...

Kevy Baby 05-25-2010 08:58 PM

I'll ride ya big boy ;)

innerSpaceman 05-25-2010 09:22 PM

Ugh, I so wanted to go ... but I'm afraid I've got a going-away thingie. BAH.

€uroMeinke 05-25-2010 09:39 PM

I wanted to, but I also want to go to Lightening in a Bottle to see Lucent Dossier

€uroMeinke 05-26-2010 07:56 PM

The June screenings just posted:
6/5 Casablanca
6/12 Beetlejuice
6/13 Blow up (1966)
6/19 Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)
6/26 Midnight Cowboy

Not Afraid 05-26-2010 08:05 PM

Why are they doing ONE Sunday? Blow Up is a great film.

innerSpaceman 05-26-2010 08:14 PM

And one I've never seen. I'd be inclined. (The other June films seem decidedly "meh.")

alphabassettgrrl 05-26-2010 11:10 PM

Beetlejuice could be fun. And Casablanca.

Beetlejuice could be Casablanca? I'm confused.

"Play it once, Delia. For old times' sake."
"Of all the cemeteries, in all the towns, in all the world, she walks into mine."
"Round up the usual sand worms."

Eliza Hodgkins 1812 05-27-2010 06:05 PM

Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice!

We've never been to a cemetery screening and it's on my "things to do before we move" list. If there's another group outing, we'd like to join in.

Do you have a move date? In random chats June isn't looking good right now for a lot of people, hopefully July will be better - minus Disneyland's Birthday of course.

Prudence 05-31-2010 10:32 PM

I don't yet have a new job to move away to, I'm just hoping it will happen soon. So, we're here for the foreseeable future. I'm hoping not next year.

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 06-13-2010 01:27 AM

Don't see going back to attempt this again. Waited and waited, there were people waiting down the block and we couldn't get in. It was like FIMA giving out free stuff. Crazy - no thanks! Beetlejuice tonight at the Cemetery was a FAIL!

€uroMeinke 06-13-2010 01:32 AM

We drove past the cemetery tonight and saw people picnicking outside - obviously tonight was a sell out and some of those who couldn't get in made the best of it

innerSpaceman 06-13-2010 11:21 AM

Yeah, I think we pretty much group-decided that anything super-popular is a time to avoid the cemetery. In fact, I much prefer seeing the random movie I've never seen before - which, by definition, makes said movie not all that popular.

It looks to me, though, that the schedule this last two years has hinged on the uber-popular and not the quirky.

I really wanted to see Blow Out (for the first time). But that's tonight, huh? Can't make it. (In fact, I'm busy most Sunday nights for a while, when I will be glued to True Blood in HBO.)

Not Afraid 06-13-2010 11:40 AM

True Blood trumps all.

(I can't believe I'm saying things like this!)

And one day you'll understand

Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam

and silly walks.

Not Afraid 06-13-2010 12:03 PM

Never!

€uroMeinke 06-22-2010 09:54 PM

New Schedule is up:

6/26 Midnight Cowboy

7/3 Easy Rider - Dennis Hopper Tribute

7/10 Arsenic & Old Lace

7/17 Saturday Night Fever

7/24 High Noon

7/31 Airplane

Morrigoon 06-22-2010 10:06 PM

OMG, I see some I'd want to see there. Are there any August dates?

€uroMeinke 06-22-2010 10:08 PM

Not yet - I'd expect those the last week of July

innerSpaceman 06-22-2010 10:13 PM

Absolutely nothing this season is grabbing me. And there are a few screenings that look to be fun, but also among the most crowded. Which, nowadays, is a no-thanks.

**pinning my hopes on August**

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 06-22-2010 10:16 PM

Airplane would be fun but we'd have to get in line 48 hours before....

€uroMeinke 06-22-2010 10:28 PM

Arsenic and Old Lace would be my pick - I'd also be up for Saturday Night Fever, if it didn't conflict with a much greater priority event & celebration

CoasterMatt 06-22-2010 10:36 PM

I love High Noon.

LSPoorEeyorick 06-23-2010 07:17 AM

I'd consider High Noon. I am hoping fewer people would want to go than did Beetlejuice.

Not Afraid 06-23-2010 09:44 AM

They seem to be going for more of the big bang/high attendance films. Where's our obscure selection?

You'd think that now they have all eyes on them they'd do more obscure, interesting films, because there will be plenty of people regardless. But no, looks like they're looking to please the crowd.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. Arsenic and Old Lace or High Noon would probably be pretty dealable...

Alex 06-23-2010 10:17 AM

Arsenic and Old Lace is the only one of interest to me.

High Noon is a brilliantly made, brilliantly written, brilliantly acted but brilliantly boring movie.

Kevy Baby 06-23-2010 12:32 PM

Surprisingly, I have never seen Easy Rider and this would be a fun place to see it. But I suspect that it will be packed.
