Encino Man: the film that was supposed to launch the career of Pauly Shore, but instead brought Brendan Fraser into the limelight.

innerSpaceman 06-04-2010 12:59 PM

I only want to see Encino Man outdoors in Encino.

Alex 06-04-2010 01:10 PM

...in an empty swimming pool.

Moonliner 06-04-2010 01:16 PM

... after having my brains pummeled with a sledge hammer.

Ghoulish Delight 06-04-2010 01:16 PM

Encino Man is a better movie than it has any right to be.

Gemini Cricket 06-04-2010 01:22 PM

Zug zug!

Ghoulish Delight 06-04-2010 01:32 PM

No: a FILLED pool. I've done this before: DIVE-IN THEATRE

We secured a large industrial projector and screen, and a significant sound system (that was my contribution). The projector was on one end of the pool (actually on top of a building - the laundry at the apartment complex we did this at), the screen at the other end (surprisingly no water spots!) and set up a 5.1 sound system (including four 15" drivers for the subs). Everybody watched the films (The First Indy and another film which I have promptly forgotten) from the pool or from chairs around the pool (and later in the party, from chairs in the pool).

Good times.

That's all well and good and here's your gold star from me, but Encino Man requires an empty pool (or more ideally a still under construction one but that would be messy).

I've never seen the movie in its entirety - just segments here and there. Sounds like I have missed an important plot point.

Brendan Fraser's Encino Man is found while Sean Astin and Pauly Shore are digging a new swimming pool.

(And I think it would be more accurate to say that Encino Man is a movie intended to highlight Sean Astin and instead launched Pauly Shore's movie career and Brendan Fraser.)

Hmm... I was just parroting what the "cute couple talking about the movie on the commercial breaks" said

In looking at the trivia about the movie on IMDb, I saw:
  • Film debut of Rose McGowan.
  • Jim Carrey and Nicolas Cage were both considered for the role of Link before Brendan Fraser was cast
  • The group that is playing in the party scene is "Infectious Grooves" and features Mike Muir of the heavy metal band Suicidal Tendencies and Robert Trujillo, who currently plays bass with Metallica.
  • The band at the prom, "Infectious Grooves", features Stephen Perkins of Jane's Addiction.

GAMMERA!! I love that movie!

Cadaverous Pallor 06-04-2010 07:36 PM

Gammera is really neat
He is filled with turtle meat
We believe in Gammera!

This could be fun!

Doesn't Encino Man also go to Raging Waters, or is that just Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure?
