Only in the form of pizza and cola beverages.

CoasterMatt 06-15-2010 07:01 PM

Can I crash out there?

€uroMeinke 06-15-2010 07:09 PM

This Friday huh?

innerSpaceman 06-15-2010 07:12 PM

Why is the movie that I want to see the last on the bill? Like starting two hours after my bedtime? I call shenanigans!

€uroMeinke 06-15-2010 07:14 PM

just arrive at midnight

Not Afraid 06-15-2010 07:16 PM

The puppies won't allow me to do three films unless they can watch them too. ;)

Take a nap after you have your early-bird special.

flippyshark 06-15-2010 07:31 PM

What a fantastic line-up!

innerSpaceman 06-15-2010 08:10 PM

Actually, though I doubt I could fall asleep for a siesta after work, I would likely show up only for the last two films. I don't know how on earth I could get to Silverlake any earlier on a Friday night, without being burnt out by the time I just arrive.

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 06-16-2010 12:25 AM

Aw, all films I've not yet seen but I have my Grandmother's 86th birthday day at Disneyland.

Morrigoon 06-16-2010 12:26 AM

Might make... will need directions. Should we bring something?

mousepod 06-16-2010 09:33 AM

You needn't bring anything but your self. I'll PM directions (or at least my address) to anyone who needs it. If we could get a tentative head count by Friday afternoon, it would greatly aid in the pizza ordering and cushion positioning.

innerSpaceman 06-17-2010 10:09 AM

is this still on? You realize of course, I'd be giving up seeing Toy Story 3 on opening night for this, but I love movie nights at Casa C., so let me know if this is still happening (I imagine if I'm to be the only guest, it would be off).

mousepod 06-17-2010 10:30 AM

It's on. Official head count so far:

Me
Heather
Heidi
Tom
Savannah (not on LoT, but you met her at the Oscar party)
Johnny (see above note)

Plus one or two other people that you probably don't know.

I might have to call in sick tomorrow and take a nap so I can fully appreciate Lisztomania. Or maybe a lack of sleep will provide me with the slightly hallucinatory vibe necessary...

CoasterMatt 06-17-2010 10:39 AM

I'll be there...

So how come I'm not on the official head count? :p

That's better. :p

Not Afraid 06-17-2010 03:15 PM

I will discuss with Chris tonight. I'm up to my earlobes in stuff I have to do.

€uroMeinke 06-17-2010 06:59 PM

As much as I'd love to see the films, especially Lisztomania, we're going to have to pass this time, we've both got AM optometrist appointments so the 2AM stop time is probably too much of a push for us

If only you guys didn't live so far away...

Not Afraid 06-17-2010 07:05 PM

Yeah, I'm not up for that VERY LONG drive to your house. You should move closer.

innerSpaceman 06-17-2010 07:18 PM

Pfft, I live a good deal closer and I'm still 50/50 (towards likely) to miss Liztomania. I don't have any early appointments Saturday, but neither do I expect to blithely stay awake while seated in a dark room 4 hours past my bedtime.

I'll give it a good shot, though.

Gemini Cricket 06-17-2010 07:19 PM

I can't make it. My car can't drive underwater... yet.

Ummm, you live a whopping 5 miles closer.

innerSpaceman 06-18-2010 06:09 AM

Ah, but I wouldn't be arriving from home. I'd be arriving from cross-town - which is closer, but perhaps more hellish a drive. But I was referring to how much closer home gets (mine or yours), the later you stay out. Sometimes I love staying out late in L.A. just to enjoy the phenomenon of being able to get home in 15-20 minutes from ANYWHERE. :)

LSPoorEeyorick 06-18-2010 04:25 PM

iSm, iSm, iSm, my daily commute is longer, every single day! But I'm with you on Toy Story. It kind of hurts to delay the watching, and we've got a meeting all Saturday. Still, Casa Chihuahua movie nights aren't missable.

innerSpaceman 06-18-2010 04:50 PM

Do you have a secret route?

CoasterMatt 06-18-2010 05:36 PM

I'm gonna have to withdraw my attendance from such a wonderful event. Sorry, guys :(

Morrigoon 06-18-2010 11:06 PM

Sorry I couldn't make it, but didn't get out of the office till 6:30 and have to be at Disney at 10am, so once I accounted for Friday night drive time, I just couldn't make it work

mousepod 06-19-2010 08:30 AM

In the end, the crowd was smaller than anticipated, but still an awful lot of fun. iSm, LSPE, and Tom joined us for 'Breaking Glass' (with a 10 minute appearance by Savannah). The group dwindled to 3 for an amazing HD print of 'Quadrophenia', and when Heather went to bed, it was just me and iSm for 'Lisztomania'.

There are about 15 or so slices of pizza in the fridge, but I'm sure they'll be consumed over the weekend.

I'm really looking forward to hearing what Steve thought about Lisztomania, now that he's had a night to sleep on it.

(And before I start another thread - July 4 is most certainly on at Casa Chihuahua)

innerSpaceman 06-19-2010 08:39 AM

Well, it was a nice private screening! Hahaha.

Wow, Lisztomania was not what I expected. I rather liked it, and it was bizarre in surprising ways. I think I'll have to see it again when I'm more awake, but it was far-out enough to keep me interested till 2 in the morning. A couple of great cameos, too.

Terrific print of Quadrophenia that the mousepod downloaded from the internet a couple of days ago. Really looked better than DVD quality.

I didn't dig Breaking Glass as much as my host and hostess did back in the day. Perhaps I needed to see it in its own time period to grow nearly as fond. I'm simply astounded the American version cut out the entire ending. The movie would simply make no sense. Oh, and wow - did the later-released TRON ever completely rip off the penultimate (American finale) scene of this movie.

Phil Daniels starred in both Breaking Glass and Quadrophenia, but I found him a much better performer in the earlier Who-based piece. In fact, since nothing much really happens in Quadrophenia, it's his performance that sells the piece.

Anyway, I think the Who made a wise move in shifting film style from Tommy to Quadrophenia, and Ken Russel made a wise move in following up Tommy with the more free-flowing Lisztomania.

innerSpaceman 06-19-2010 08:43 AM

Oh, sorry I didn't expound more on Lisztomania there, mousepod. I'm still mulling it over. But I hope it will please you that it figured heavily in my weird dreams last night, and I've been reading all about the real Franz Liszt on the internet this morning. ;)

Not Afraid 06-20-2010 11:42 AM

Franz Liszt Franz Liszt Franz Liszt Franz Liszt Franz Liszt.

Did anyone have trouble "translating" the dialog in Quadraphenia? I remember wishing they included subtitles like they do with "The Harder They Come". Or maybe I was just drunk.

innerSpaceman 06-20-2010 07:04 PM

Um, yes, there were a number of scenes where I would have appreciated subtitles.

Hahahaha, I'm going to chant FranzLiszt FranzLiszt FranzLiszt at the next few concerts I go to!

mousepod 08-05-2010 03:19 PM

Reviving the thread.

We're not going to be around on Saturday (tomorrow is Heather's birthday), but we'll be hanging out and trying unwind on Sunday.

If anyone wants to join us, we'll be having a Casa Chihuahua Movie Night© at around 4:00 pm.

Movie hasn't been selected yet. But we will have cola and popcorn...

Snowflake 08-05-2010 04:01 PM

When you screen Double Indemnity, I'll try to schedule a trip!

All the movie fun is in LA these days.

Eliza Hodgkins 1812 08-05-2010 04:17 PM

J, I think we'll be able to make it. Will keep you posted.

Ghoulish Delight 08-05-2010 04:22 PM

Hmm, we should be heading home from the valley sometime Sunday afternoon. Depending on schedule and relative energy levels, would love to stop by and say hello.

innerSpaceman 08-05-2010 04:32 PM

No can do this time. A different movie night in front of someone else's TV is already booked. Sorry.

Morrigoon 08-05-2010 06:40 PM

That's my last Disney shift. After which, I'll be more available for future movie night attendance.

€uroMeinke 08-05-2010 07:20 PM

Of course it needs mentioning that the Egyptian will be screening both Tommy and Lisztomania on the 21st with Ken Russell doing an in person discussion between films. The intermission alone may be worth it ;)

CoasterMatt 08-05-2010 10:10 PM

Can we bring our girls?

Kevy Baby 08-05-2010 10:14 PM

You have more than one?

Agreed. But that is also the night that Snowflake is doing her book signing. However, the night before, Ken will be at the Aero for The Devils and Altered States. The Devils is one of my favorite Russell movies, so...

innerSpaceman 08-06-2010 07:26 AM

ooooh, oooh, yes, that one. I mean, we just saw Tommy and Litzomania anyway. I've never seen The Devils and it's been way too long since Altered States (in more ways than one, can anyone find some shrooms for this screening??)

You might want to carefully time your psychedelic effects - the last section of The Devils would most probably "bum your trip."

Snowflake 08-06-2010 08:44 AM

Speaking of Ken Russell

Heritage Auctions has a Lisztomania 1 sheet with the auction ending on Sunday and it's currently at $1.

I won't be hurt if Ken Russell proves to be more attractive an option!

Not Afraid 08-06-2010 10:07 AM

I will be floating in a pool that evening.

We picked a movie! But it's a surprise.

Shpadoinkle!

Cynthia 08-08-2010 02:35 PM

bummer

Have to miss it, making sure Lisa is face-up in my pool!

Then we won't be watching Sunset Boulevard... or The Graduate (any other non-face up in the pool movies?)

flippyshark 08-08-2010 02:58 PM

Harold and Maude

Kevy Baby 08-08-2010 03:13 PM

Debbie Does Dallas

Ghoulish Delight 08-08-2010 08:14 PM

Had to leave before the movie began, but I was let in on the secret (actually, had I seen mp's post beforehand I would have known what was shown). Excellent choice!

Not Afraid 08-09-2010 12:54 AM

I hope it was a good movie. I didn't die in a pool. As a matter of fact, I became completely relaxed and had a wonderful time!

mousepod 08-09-2010 07:35 AM

It was Cannibal: The Musical (aka Alferd Packer: The Musical), by Trey Parker (pre-South Park). We had a dozen people comfortably seated in the media room, with room left on the carpet (for the dogs to put on a show). It was followed by a Betty Boop short ("Minnie The Moocher") and "Once More With Feeling" (the musical episode of Buffy, The Vampire Slayer).

Thanks to everyone who came! It was mucho fun.

This Friday (the 13th), it's gonna be horror movies, starting with The Exorcist, and followed by a couple more nightmare-inducing flicks TBD. 7ish. Be there and be scared!

flippyshark 08-09-2010 08:27 AM

If you want to make things really frightening, follow up with John Boorman's dizzying Exorcist II: The Heretic. There's sure no other movie like it. (I've prbably watched it more times than the original, which must say something dubious about my priorities.)

flippyshark 08-09-2010 08:30 AM

I suppose watching Friday the 13th would be a little on the nose, though I find that the original is a very good party movie. In the same vein (snarkle), The Burning is the best of the Friday wannabes, and the first Sleepaway Camp is the most jaw-dropping.

mousepod 08-09-2010 09:03 AM

Well, I'd like to show movies that gave me nightmares as an adult. They're few and far between. Two that come to mind are Quatermass and the Pit and Darabont's The Mist (black and white version).

The Heretic is so hard to watch... even the bee's-eye-view shots, and while Legion has one of the best jump-out-of-your-seat moments in all of cinema, it's not a nightmare-inducer.

I'm certainly going to keep away from the slasher flicks.

mousepod 08-09-2010 09:11 AM

Now I'm brainstorming by myself...

Jacob's Ladder...

flippyshark 08-09-2010 09:35 AM

The Ring really shook me up at the time, but a more recent rewatch didn't hold up, maybe because a lot of the J- horror I've seen since has been so similar. Audition never fails to chill me, though.

Not Afraid 08-09-2010 09:45 AM

I'm going to be seeing Summer Darling this Friday night. Happy and sad all at the same time.

innerSpaceman 08-09-2010 09:47 AM

Yep, I refused to watch The Ring again for years, because I didn't think I could stand it. But when I finally did - meh.

Nothing like the original viewing tho - creeped the fvck out of me, I'll give it that. Stayed away from a repeat viewing because I was scared to watch it again. Unjustified, as it turned out, but the mark of a really, really scary movie (I can't think of another one I similarly stayed away from).

Maybe I need to get Lani to see it again somehow. I'm not a big fan of horror movies because they are never scary. But I kind of liked The Ring. But one particular moment freaked Lani the **** out and she's refused to see any remotely horrorish movie since then.
