Burton Exhibit at LACMA - May 2011

Story here.

innerSpaceman 06-24-2010 03:07 PM

Heheh, last day here will be Halloween 2011. How perfect would that be?

Kevy Baby 06-24-2010 03:22 PM

Its almost a year away. I guarantee that I will forget about this long before it opens.

But when I discover it again next year, I will be going

Snowflake 06-24-2010 03:35 PM

Wonderful!

NirvanaMan 06-24-2010 05:57 PM

OMG I must go. This looks awesome

BarTopDancer 06-24-2010 06:43 PM

In.

(Someone remind me next year.)

lindyhop 06-24-2010 07:24 PM

Tim Burton looks very excited.

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art will present Tim Burton, a major retrospective exploring the full range of Tim Burton's creative work, both as a director of live-action and animated films, and as an artist, illustrator, photographer, and writer. Taking inspiration from popular culture, fairy tales, and traditions of the gothic, Burton has reinvented Hollywood genre filmmaking as an expression of a personal vision.

On view at LACMA from May 29 through October 31, 2011, the exhibition brings together over 700 drawings, paintings, photographs, moving-image works, storyboards, puppets, concept artworks, maquettes, costumes, and cinematic ephemera, including art from a number of unrealized and little-known personal projects. Many of these objects come from the artist's own archive, as well as from studio archives and private collections of Burton's collaborators.

BarTopDancer 05-15-2011 09:55 PM

Yay someone remembered! Let's make it a swanking!

wendybeth 05-15-2011 11:00 PM

Could you guys make the Swanking in like......5 weeks? He is Tori's favorite director- she'd love to see the exhibit, as would we. :D

RStar 05-16-2011 06:38 AM

Oh, I'm dissapointed. I thought this was about LeVar Burton.....

Just kidding! Wow, Tim has had almost as many visitors to his exibit as did Picaso! Impressive!

ToriBear 05-16-2011 07:41 AM

PleasePleasePleasePleasePleasePleasePleasePleasePl easePleasePlease can someone take me to this when we come down there!!!!!!

LSPoorEeyorick 05-25-2011 08:59 AM

Necessary Tori-swanking.

innerSpaceman 05-25-2011 10:13 AM

Yep. I passed on getting a LACMA membership for less-public-crazy viewings and such ... but it's a Must for me, too. So Tori-swanking is a certainty.

What dates are you going to be here, ToriBear?

ToriBear 05-25-2011 11:19 AM

June 18th through the 23rd. :D

innerSpaceman 05-25-2011 12:06 PM

Um, shouldn't we get tickets, like, NOW?!

Brendan 05-25-2011 12:42 PM

If you're a LACMA member you'll be getting an invite to a reception for Tim Burton on June 29th- requires RSVP.

innerSpaceman 05-25-2011 01:04 PM

Yeah, but I'm not. I don't think most of us who want to attend the exhibit are. And that weekend in June is literally my only free weekend between now and Disneyland Birthday in mid-July - so who wants to go, which of those two days, and how can we get tickets?

I think we should act as quickly as possible.

wendybeth 05-25-2011 08:02 PM

I agree, iSm- does anyone know admission price, etc? I'll get online later and check it out, but though maybe the locals would know.

Unless it's earlyish on the 18th I won't be able to go since I am seeing U2 at Angel Stadium that evening and will need to be back in Anaheim around 4. The 19th is Fathers Day.

wendybeth 05-26-2011 12:42 AM

We get into town in the afternoon on the 18th, so that date probably wouldn't work. I think the admission price is pretty good- especially since the birthday girl gets in free! We'll need to either hitch a ride with someone or rent a car- in which case we will have to follow someone, because I have NO idea where the exhibit is at. Should we do a poll?

innerSpaceman 05-26-2011 07:09 AM

Yes. A Poll would be good. Too bad about the 18th not working, because the morning looked to be good for some people (who are vaguely planning on a screening of Mary Poppins in Santa Monica that afternoon).

What about Sunday the 19th, followed by bbq and party at Chez Fancy Grand Cal Villas???? Or should that be on Saturday arrival night, followed by hung-over Tim Burton exhibit the next day? :p

BarTopDancer 05-26-2011 08:22 AM

Fathers Day is the 19th.

wendybeth 05-26-2011 10:05 AM

Any day is good for us, but the party at Chez Fancy Cali-Grand will have to wait until November. We're staying at Chez Chateau L'Ordinaire de Sheraton Anaheim this time. There is a decent pool there, though, and lounge, etc.

We are going to the reception (I love standing in line for water down drinks), but I would love to see it before then!

In that case I'll have you get me a drink instead!

Morrigoon 06-03-2011 08:12 AM

Article about it

innerSpaceman 06-07-2011 04:50 PM

SO! Um, shouldn't we buy tickets in advance for this? Suggestion: The Spokane Crew should choose a date and approximate time, and those who want to join them can buy tickets. Should be done SOON, in my humble.

wendybeth 06-07-2011 08:41 PM

Well, we will need to either rent a car or hitch a ride, so........I will put up a poll tonight- see what everyone thinks! Thanks, Steve- been busy and kind of spaced the whole thing.

Eliza Hodgkins 1812 06-08-2011 05:20 PM

Erik and I saw the exhibit and it's fun. We'll be going to the reception but only at the very start as we'll be speeding away to see my favorite film, Safety Last!, that same night.
