San Diego is also a good general option - Balboa Park, Gas Lamp District, etc. If this is his kind of thing, taking a tour of the aircraft carrier Midway is excellent. If you want to do a nice dinner in San Diego, I recommend Lou & Mickey's in the Gas Lamp District. Or just take him to Zuma Beach and shove him in the water. |

Palm Springs Tram to the top of the mountain (not ocean related but fun and cool at the top - places to eat, hike, etc.)
Up to Big Bear to hike around and have a picnic. They also have a driving tour of some back country that you can do in a regular car with stops along the way. Not overly exciting but fun if you like nature and historical stuff. If you have access to a 4 wheel drive vehicle, I can share all sorts of cool places to go see pictographs and other neat stuff. |
Um, you might want to stay away from San Diego this particular weekend.

Hmm. Depending upon available funds/time:
A trip up the coast to Monterrey? Their aquarium is awesome and the atmosphere quite romantic. Closer, San Simeon. A combination of the sea {Best Western Cavalier has romantic rooms w/fireplaces, or a lesser expensive place next door, Sands by the Sea}. A visit to the Hearst Castle. Romantic dinner~ Las Brisas. Fun dinner~ Ruby's' on the Huntington Beach Pier. A harbor cruise dinner. OR you can take him to Disneyland and ride all of the water rides!! Happy Birthday to your hubby and have fun! |

Although I doubt many Comic Conners are going to be hitting the Midway. |
A drive to Palos Verdes, a look at the Lloyd Wright designed Wayfarers Chapel, a hike on Ocean Trails, dinner at Mar'sel at Terranea Resort, You can go to San Pedro first and see the Korean Bell and the Marine Mammal Care Center.
Both areas (which are right next to each other) have lots to do and are not very busy. I often go to PV when I want a "vacation". There are miles of wonderful hikes with great ocean views. |
Saturday-night cemetery screening of High Noon?
Sunday brunch at Inn of the Seventh Ray? Get a hotel room with complimentary passage to the Magic Castle? Another retro-swank location, the glorious Biltmore hotel - swim in their incredible retro pool and have tea in deco heaven. Have your breakfast at the retro-unswank-but-fun Clifton's Cafeteria. |

Brendan choose going to San Juan Capistrano, we had Tea, went to the mission, bought some cool old tools and 40's ties, then into the pool for an evening swim
