A NorCal girl no more

As of June I won't be a NorCal girl anymore! We got notice from our landlord that we have to be out by June first so we started house hunting and just came up totally empty handed. Kurt suggested looking further down south, Bakersfield, due to his business(most of his work is in that area)and we went down this weekend to look around. We ended up finding a house all four of us liked the first day! (after looking at 15 others PLUS new houses online)we put an offer in on Saturday and found out today that they accepted! So we're moving! The house is in the school district we liked (very highly rated yay!)and it's within walking distance to the new jr. high and elementary. It's 1725 sq ft, 4 bdrm, 2bth with a very nice sized lot, 7800 sq ft and a gated pool that has a rock waterfall in the back! Plus, a nice sized grassy area big enough for a playfort for the kids! :D Pool Parties at my house!

Now I just have to convince Kurt that THIS is a necessity for the backyard and I"m set!

Just wanted to share! I'm beyound excited about FINALLY becoming a homeowner!!!

Tina

Crap I can't believe I forgot! The street addy is MATTERHORN WAY!!! :)

mamabot 04-18-2005 08:14 PM

Everyone in my house is extrememly excited for you Tina! You know we will be there to help you guys move. :)

If you are going to have a Tiki Bar, then the pool needs to be The Jungle Cruise.

wendybeth 04-18-2005 08:14 PM

Lol! It was meant to be, eh? Congrats!!!!!:snap::cheers::snap::cheers:

MerryPrankster 04-18-2005 08:15 PM

Congratulations, Tina! Good luck to you and your family -- the house and pool look wonderful!

And you're going to be a lot closer to Disneyland too!

Edited to add: Matterhorn Way???...No freakin' way!!!

Not Afraid 04-18-2005 08:16 PM

Well, I adore your house and think you guys will be really happy there. Besides being closer to Disneyland you are not very far from "Cow Arts". We have to keep our little Imagineer happy.

blueerica 04-18-2005 08:17 PM

Awesome!! I'm so happy for you!

You know he pointed out that he was closer to Cow Arts today for the first time! :)

And thank you guys~~You're all invited to the first Tiki Pool Party

Sweet! I hope the housing market in Bakersfield is a bit cooler than it is in NorCal right now.

Darling, that is a DEAL where I'm from.

SacTown Chronic 04-18-2005 08:28 PM

Yeah, but Sac isn't supposed to be this high. It's freaking Bay Area prices 90 miles from the ocean.

mousepod 04-18-2005 08:31 PM

If you think you can find a 1700 sq ft house in SF for anything like $369k, I invite you here to help me house hunt.

Please?

HA! :) I had to go to BAKERSFIELD to get that house for under $350K! LOL!

Jason, we couldn't find ANYTHING in Stockton in the school district I would be willing to put the boys in for under $350k. In fact, a dumpy, I mean DUMPY ass 1000 sq ft flat top 3 bdrm 1 bath right by my Starbucks just sold for $310,000!!! It's ricockulous! And Lodi is even worse

SacTown Chronic 04-18-2005 08:39 PM

Well, yeah, not now. I meant Bay Area prices before everything went crazy a few years ago (About the same time as the explosion of dot.com millionaires all over Silicon Valley.). Today's Sacramento prices are yesterday's Bay Area prices. Today's Bay Area prices are....fvcking nuts.

MerryPrankster 04-18-2005 08:41 PM

My sister's neighbors just sold their "average" house for $876,000 (double what they paid for it 4 years ago). It's totally nuts!!

Tell me about it. The only reason we got ours so cheaply is because the previous owners were lazy and they let the house go to pot. One week of elbow grease and we have the place looking wonderful. The house across the street, with the exact same floor plan as ours, went on the market for 420K while ours was still in escrow.

Now that's a jump and a half geeez!!!!! It's so crazy and it just keeps getting worse. I was looking online a couple of weeks ago and out of 25 houses here, in our district 4 were not sale pending or sold!

SacTown Chronic 04-18-2005 08:52 PM

It's depressing, that's for sure. I'd rather go to the dentist than look for a home in this market again. And I hate going to the dentist.

Cadaverous Pallor 04-18-2005 09:31 PM

I'm so happy for you! :) We're dipping our toes in the market and the news is not so good here. I can't believe you got a rock waterfall pool four bedroom house for under 350! :( We'd barely find an 800 sq ft condo in a safe area for that here.

Matterhorn Way, my goodness....You should paint this white:

And hire tiny men in red jump suits to climb it periodically.

Congratulations, how exciting for you!

Now you so know I will have to do that right? The tiki room will be the patio and I've been told the pool should be the jungle cruise ;)

Kyler has informed me that he wants to rent an overhead projector and paint the "mountains" on his walls in his room. :)

Oh and you have to remember I had to go to Bakersfield to get the house at such a good price! LOL! Thanks on the well wishes :)

Prudence 04-18-2005 10:15 PM

Dang! And I thought we had it bad up here! 1400 sq ft townhouse for 172K. I thought that was expensive. I was obviously hallucinating.

MickeyD 04-18-2005 11:22 PM

Yay Tina!! That's awesome news! I'm so happy for you guys!

UvaGirl 04-18-2005 11:37 PM

Congrats! It looks awesome - I love your Matterhorn pool!:)

Baileykat 04-19-2005 07:43 AM

Whoo hooo! Extra hoooo!

That's awesome Tina! I'm so happy for you! We're buying this summer and I can't wait! Sounds like we'll be in the same boat! Our prices are HORRID here! And things are literally selling in days or hours! Kat and I found a house we liked just this past Friday...we drove by it last night..."Sale Pending"...

But yeah for you!!!!! I'll send you a case of drink umbrellas as a house warming gift!

Kevy Baby 04-19-2005 10:47 AM

Tres cool!! Congrats on the new digs.

Did you make sure you could get DSL or Cable modem? I hope you didn't overlook this extremely important detail!!
