(I had this thought of writing a long dissertation on the history of birthday observances, the sisters who wrote the Happy Birthday song and why you often hear some alternate song sung on TV or in movies, the Unbirthday song from Alice in Wonderland, the fact that many people in 12 step programs celebrate their anniversaries in those programs as "birthdays," all the freebies businesses give you because it's your birthday, how the tradition of gift giving began, what to give a diabetic instead of cake, how much money the birthday card and party decoration industries makes annually, and whether corporate "birthdays," such as Disneyland's, are genuine observances or crass marketing opportunities, and if it matters - but, I thought, "no," it's a post on a message board to say "Happy birthday" to my friend Jesse, not a podcast)

Well, I didn't watch many movies, but had the MOST RAD TIME. As usual, Jesse, you are the one who keeps on giving. Thanks for sharing your birthday, your insane hospitality, the crazy line-up of great films, some terrific burgers, insane Fudgy the Whale ice cream cake spectacular, and most of all your endless stream of Amazing Friends!

Thanks to everyone for your birthday wishes. My birthday itself was perhaps one of the best I've ever had. I decided to that rather than do something 'special' - I'd just have one of our movie nights (started a little earlier) and add hamburgers and ice cream cake. In all, about 30 people showed up - and the wonderful mix of personalities made me realize just how lucky I am to have such a great group of friends. You rock.
