Top 100 Gadgets of all time

Time magazine is out with a list of the 100 Top Gadgets of all time.

I do or have owned a respectable 32% of their list. My worst category being a disappointing 0 for 12 in cameras.

JWBear 10-25-2010 10:12 AM

Only 19% for me. I guess I'm not geeky enough.

Alex 10-25-2010 11:57 AM

22% by fast count. Though it swings from wildly generic to very, very specific.

Specific digital SLR model but every smoke detector, electric razor, credit card (a gadget, really?), and power strip ever made.

I'm not a big gadget person apparently. My favorite listing was in the Communications section....the Speak and Spell..

They missed what has to be the #1 gadget of all time: the Hitachi Magic Wand

There has been a lot of good buzz about that one.

innerSpaceman 10-25-2010 02:53 PM

I've had 10%, but used only 9% - and I call shenanigans on Velco or batteries being deemed "gadgets," so my net is only 7%.

I feel pretty good about that. :)

Hahahah!! I agree with you, K.

I'm only at about 20%. I could score higher if I count my hubby's gadgets, but that didn't seem fair.

Ghoulish Delight 10-25-2010 07:58 PM

There's too much ambiguity about specificity for me to come to a #. For example, I may have never owned this specific item from the list, but we are currently in possession of a fully functional, nearly mint one of these. Does that count?

Alex 10-25-2010 08:11 PM

When I did it, if they gave a specific model # then unless I had that model I didn't count it. I didn't count the football game though I had the essentially identical soccer version. I have a Canon DLSR but not that one so I didn't count it.

But I while I don't own the Logitech Harmony model shown, it didn't reference a specific model so I counted it.

alphabassettgrrl 10-25-2010 08:17 PM

There were a couple items that I had a similar model, but not enough to matter.

I was pleased, though, to note that they counted my Pentax camera that was my graduation present when I left high school. I really badly wanted that camera, and was pleased it was cool enough to make the list.

I do think the Nikon cameras should be cool enough to count, though. What's so special about Canon?

Nope. Mattel. It's swell.

(And this was one of my gadgets.)

20% - 1 out of 5, more than I expected though I picked up the lame one's like power strip, optical media and 2 types of batteries

Not Afraid 10-25-2010 08:59 PM

There are gadgets that are not on here that I think should be - maybe not for the same reasons, but for their sheer impact.

The Princess phone.

Compact Fluorescent Lightbulb

Garage Door Opener

Microwave Oven

Cocktail Shaker

Microfiber

Wheeled Luggage

€uroMeinke 10-25-2010 09:18 PM

The Waring Electric Blender

Kevy Baby 10-25-2010 10:00 PM

The Flux Capacitor
