Art in a Pool

Listening to NPR this evening I heard a piece on a new show at MOCA involving an immersive art experience. Perhaps we should plan a swanking - when it warms up a bit

At the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, museum goers can dive into the art — literally. They can actually swim in it. The pool is tucked into a dark, back corner of the museum. It's 3 feet deep, the size of a mini-lap pool, and it's ringed with small blue lights. An eerie soundtrack plays as large images — featuring lines of cocaine — are projected on either side of the pool.

Would I have to wear a swim suit?

Alex 01-19-2011 11:10 PM

Impoderable: How is art different from a pool party at Robert Evan's house in 1976?

€uroMeinke 01-19-2011 11:22 PM

Perhaps they are the same?

Not sure if the art is clothing optional

Okay, sounds cool, but doesn't seem like the kind of art I would bring a child to see (as shown in above photo).

Bring the kids! Cocaine for everyone!

What? No spiders? I call foul!

LSPoorEeyorick 01-20-2011 11:40 AM

Why do we need to wait until it warms up? So, yes, this is up my alley.

Alex 01-20-2011 11:53 AM

Having now actually read the article and seeing when this bit of art was created I see now that it actually may be the remnants of an old Robert Evans pool party.

In which case, if you go, I'd consider wearing a full body condom.

I'd like a cocaine installation with pictures of a pool.

If you read/listen to the article it appears the pool is unheated, so a bit chilly

Ghoulish Delight 01-20-2011 12:37 PM

Yes, but it also appears to be indoors, so warmer weather won't help in that regard.

Cadaverous Pallor 01-20-2011 12:51 PM

An indoor pool without heat? That's just cruel. No way you'd get me in that.

Other than the temp, this sounds brilliant.

Steph - I'm sure the lines of cocaine as a visual effect would go right over a child's head.

LSPoorEeyorick 01-20-2011 02:02 PM

Oh, c'mon! I swim in a chilly indoor lap pool every other day. Nut up, people! We have to go.

Am I the only person here who finds the phrase "nut up" particularly humorous when discussing jumping into a chilly pool?

€uroMeinke 01-20-2011 02:14 PM

How about "nip out?"

Sorry babe, I just do not have the insulation for such things.

BarTopDancer 01-20-2011 10:55 PM

My thin CA blood can't handle cold. But I'd love to check out the room while others took a dip.
