Outlook Reading Pane

Who uses it?

Just curious (seems to be differing opinions on it here at the office).

Gn2Dlnd 01-24-2011 02:58 PM

I can't even get Outlook to open on my computer.

So, not me.

Ghoulish Delight 01-24-2011 03:05 PM

I love the reading pane.

But then, I have a ginormous monitor at work, so the pane can take up enough screen real estate to be useful while still leaving plenty of room for all of the other visual elements of Outlook.

What I don't use is auto-preview. It just clutters up the message list.

Alex 01-24-2011 03:05 PM

Bottom, emails automatically marked as read once displayed in the pane for 5 seconds. I get a couple hundred work emails a day, if I actually had to open them to know which ones I could ignore I'd go nuts.

JWBear 01-24-2011 03:12 PM

I use it (Outlook at work, Thunderbird at home). Love it.

innerSpaceman 01-24-2011 03:54 PM

I just use it at work, and I love it. Love it on bottom (yes, I'm still talking about Outlook), taking up about half the screen.

I wish GMail would have something like that ... or do they?

Ditto.

My monitor is large and in charge. I use it for the same reasons as Alex... to know which to ignore.

Pane on the right.

There is a feature you can enable in Google Labs that lets you preview a message by right clicking on it.

BarTopDancer 01-25-2011 09:47 AM

Pane on the right, use to ignore.

lashbear 01-25-2011 04:06 PM

Thank you JWB - now using Thunderbird at home... aaaand loving it.

So, you switched from Night Train?

NirvanaMan 01-25-2011 10:33 PM

preview pane is critical for me, i get hundreds of emails a day at work, use it to quickly absorb and delete info and keep from 'marking as read' those that require more thoughtful review and reply.

lashbear 01-26-2011 04:10 AM

Is that a beverage? and we never tried it ????

Trust me: you do NOT want to try Thunderbird liquor. It is a favorite of the desperate/homeless. It is cheap and nasty.

€uroMeinke 01-26-2011 10:05 PM

Though Napa Rose does keep a bottle of it in their wine cellar

Cynthia 01-26-2011 10:34 PM

Do not drink it! Once a friend brought some to dinner as a joke, the bottle tipped over and some splashed on my hand, took the nail polish right off!

alphabassettgrrl 01-26-2011 10:44 PM

Thunderbird took off your *nail polish*???? Wow. I knew it was bad, but wow. I'm not even sure how that's chemically possible.

lashbear 01-26-2011 11:07 PM

...but will it mix with Dr Pepper?

JWBear 01-27-2011 12:06 AM

He'll love it!

lashbear 01-27-2011 04:29 AM

You are just the BEST, girlfriend !! :snap: :snap:

And a bottle of Boones Farm

Not Afraid 01-27-2011 02:53 PM

We used to drink Spanada (cheap red that tastes like hangover) and its white counterpoint that has a name I can't remember.

Kevy Baby 01-27-2011 03:01 PM

I had never heard of Spanada. Our liquor of choice as a young teenager (like, just barely in my teens) was Schlitz Malt Liquor. Later, when I became 'sophisticated' in my early twenties, I drank Sutter Home White Zinfandel. I remember believing that certain years were better than others

What was the original topic of this thread again?

BarTopDancer 01-27-2011 08:08 PM

I drank Arbor Mist. I was soooo cool.

Outlook is work related. Some days work would be better with a few drinks. Therefore this thread is totally on topic.

lashbear 01-27-2011 09:33 PM

Our cheap tipple is called Passion Pop

Betty 01-28-2011 08:29 AM

We had a thing for California Coolers. remember them?

katiesue 01-28-2011 10:15 AM

Bartles & James - klassy

Morrigoon 01-28-2011 10:57 AM

There's a certain irony to that Thunderbird picture having a Sierra Nevada glass in the background
