Cemetery Screenings 2011
Got a tweet today that they are starting up on the 14th with Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
No updates on their website yet |
Yay! I hope I can make it to at least one showing this year :)
I hope for three. Heheh, Beaumark's got a very swanky picnic pac, so I hope to bring him along to one of our envy-of-the-crowd evenings.
Oh, yes! We never did get around to a screening last year and even if it is trendy and a bit crowded, should still be lots of fun.
We should go early, when we go. (And we should all go together.)
Oh, and The Flaming Lips are playing there as well.

I missed out last year :( So yeah we should pick a show to go to in May or June (I would love to see Cat on a Hot Tin Roof but the gumball rally is that day).
I think it'd be fun to make whatever day we choose an official "be there or be square" LoT event ;) Too many people I haven't seen in forever, and it's a nice long time on the lawn to catch up! |
Early on the day, iSm. Last time we were ~2 hours early and completely too late.

Hey, people, why haven't we tried this yet? We can buy tickets in advance instead of waiting and not being sure if we'll get in. Plus we can either bring picnics or eat at food trucks.
http://www.outdoorcinemafoodfest.com/ I think we should go at least once, to see what it's like. Schedule: ![]() |
That looks fun too! I'm game
Count me in!
Cool!

While you can purchase tickets in advance, it does not appear to be reserved seating, so we would still need to get there earlier to get decent seating. Not trying to be a Negative Nellie - just an observation. |
Yeah, I'd give it a shot. But I'm much more keen on the cemetery's proven vibe, and their more eclectic film selection.
Has the roof-to-backyard water slide been budgeted for?

Will the backyard movie theater show any non-scary or non-psychological thrillers, ever?

I vow to someday make it to Movie Night - it's just never worked out yet, sigh.
I don't remember seeing those come up :(

I like the wait times for Casa Chihuahau movie nights better than for Cemetery movie nights, but the D.J.'s are generally better at the Cemetery.
Noooooooo! The Shining is screening the night of Gemini Cricket's big party. Bah.
That's up there with my favorite cemetery screenings evar! The audience was respectful, but so appreciative. I'll never forget when the title card "Tuesday" was met with an ear-splitting shriek of pure horror. Hahahahahahaha!! Anyone for Vertigo on May 28? That's a pip of a film. or the next night, a Sunday ... Young Frankenstein? Ovaltine? |
This info is pieced together from various sources, but it looks like advanced tickets are being sold for shows now. In addition, Paramount has offered up their lot for parking (at the cost of $10).

Or the next 3 films. |

(and online ticket sales are a good idea. While it hasn't happened to me, it's gotta be really frustrating to get there hours in advance, hang out only to find out you aren't going to get in.) |
Yeah, what's the "convenience" charge for these online tickets?

I was there when the crowd lined up in a self consuming spiral
I was there when $10 was the "suggested donation" Loosing my edge |
Not a cemetery screening, but a poorly placed post that's more of a "call back" than anything:
We're watching two recent horror flicks this Wednesday night. I haven't seen either yet, but they both scored over 80% on Rotten Tomatoes and come with positive recommendations from friends I trust. This isn't an official movie night, so BtD can't hold it against me (but is still invited of course). Back on topic: I still don't have any plans to go to any of this year's cemetery screenings, but we did snag tix to both Flaming Lips shows... |
I wish I 1) liked horror movies (though we should talk, because I do like some movies deemed horror) and 2) didn't live so flippin far from Silver Lake.
I am SO THRILLED that they're doing online tickets and advance parking. Man, the waiting in line hours early without assured seats was just dreadful. I actually want to go again.
I wish they'd release the July schedule already. I think I'm now booked pretty solid till after Independence Day, but I'd love to get in a cemetery screening or two this season.
Okay, I can't complain too loudly because the plans we have this Saturday that prevent us from attending the cemetery screening are amazing and awesome and something we've wanted to do for a long time.
But still....HEATHERS! I'm missing HEATHERS at the cemetery. My cheese is very very sad about that :( |
Same here. And I'll be with a Heather. So that has to count for something.
Never seen Heathers. Don't have a clue what it's about. What are Heathers?
Get thee hence to the cemetery!
Can't. Must get mine ass to Disneyland that night, as the only chance to play with Wendybeth and Toribear at the place they came all this way to see.
imdb is not my friend either, as the plot of Heathers sounds too much like what's going on in my life right now for comfort. Disneyland will be better.
Have you seen Mean Girls? Heathers is the darker predecessor to Mean Girls. And just plain awesome.
iSm... when you're ready, we'll have a Daniel Waters mini-festival at Casa Chihuahua.
my weekends are shot till after Disneyland Birthday (though a couple of Friday nights in there are still open).
July 3. Ghostbusters. Now that you can have guaranteed admission with advance tickets available the week before, I'd brave it if you would.
Awww I LOVE Ghostbusters and that would be awesome to see at the cemetary but I'll be in UT with E.
Sad panda. |
Alas will be in steaming hot Red Bluff that weekend.
Holiday weekends are difficult for me - especially summer holiday weekends. I'll have to pass on this one, but would like to go at some point this summer.
I'd like to go at some point during the summer, too. But it will have to be, as I said above, post-D-Bday.
Well, I'm up for going more than once. We'll hit again sometime after 7/17. :)
Really considering the Ghostbusters thing, since it's a 3-day weekend. It's just too geeky to miss!
Really wish I could Come Out and Play for The Warriors, coming up real soon. Haven't seen that in a while, and it's a hoot!
So far, based on Facebook, it's looking like it might be...
LSPE Tom LibraryVixen Brendan Cynthia Nirvanaman EH1812 With a maybe of DP and FP. Nice crowd! And I believe our household will be providing some thematic bite-sized desserts. |
Considering the Ghostbusters screening.
Tickets are on sale now!
We're going to Ghostbusters! Carpooling with some friends in the Valley.
Of course now I need to figure out what should go in the picnic basket... |
Susan and I are going
LSPoorEeyorick and Tom Cynthia and Brendan Maybe Keith |
Awesome! See you there! :)
It was so cool seeing Ghostbusters again on the big screen and with such an enthusiastic crowd. I am really glad we went tonight.
The guaranteed-parking-on-site tickets for $10 changes EVERYTHING. No more "will-we-or-won't-we-get-in." Such a blast last night - I hope we do more this summer!
Sorry I missed it. We be there for future screenings.
Definitely awesome to have such a great crowd.
July 16:
Evil Dead 2 ![]() July 23: The African Queen ![]() July 30: Flash Gordon (1980) ![]() |
I love Flash - one of my favorite movies ever!
Must go to Flash Gordon, I am still making costumes inspired by that movie!
OMG, FLASH - AH-AH! I'm so in for this one!!!!

I agree. Terrible song. Earworm for the ages, though.
No love for Evil Dead 2?!? I waaaanaaaa!
I don't think I've ever seen Flash. We can do 7/30.
I'm in - I got to meet Sam J. Jones once, sigh. I had such a massive crush on him when Flash came out.
African Queen: aka Jungle Cruise, the movie
I do love me some African Queen.
I want to see all three! Don't know if we can swing it, though.
Anyone else in for Flash? Tickets are on sale now.
Flash? A-ah?
He's the Savior of the Universe He saved everyone of us He's a miracle - King of the impossible! That is such a horrible song... |
Quote:
So ...um, Flash. Anyone? Bueller?
Sorry- working. Otherwise it'd be fun.
Holy Hell. Cinespia has posted their August Calendar and it looks like possibly NO cemetery screenings this whole summer for me. I don't see anything remotely interesting.
Are you sure there's no takers for Flash Gordon tomorrow night? The rest of summer looks really crappy! |
Can't... going to Hairspray at the Bowl.
Psycho?
iSm, you're all kinds of wrong. I love Breakfast at Tiffany's (bad yellowface casting notwithstanding), I think The Jerk is very fun, and Psycho is one of the best horror/thriller movies ever made. Plus, all-night psychedelia may not exactly be my scene, but isn't your self-given moniker "psychenaut"?
Well, most "psychedelic" movies are just plain awful garbage, though the idea of sleeping over at the cemetery while those play in the background sounds like a fun idea reminiscent of certain New Years Eves.
Psycho in the graveyard sounds fun. But really, there's nothing but popular mainstream on the schedule this year. I used to see films I'd never before seen at the cemetery, and I miss that. In honor of the "psy" in my moniker, though, I can vote for either of those two offerings noted above. ;) |
I don't think they're playing psychedelic movies at all; they've listed concert films, and some psychedelic animation shorts.
I'm all in for Psycho. And possibly Tiffany's. |
Oh, I'll be out of town for the overnight anyway. Great night to stay up all night outdoors, though - Perseid Meteor Shower that night (um, but kinda crappy visibility in the skies above the cemetery).
The Jerk!! <3

I was born a poor black child.
I'm not sure about August for me. The Jerk - well, you all know me and my love for silly comedy...NOT. I can't watch Breakfast at Tiffany's. Love the movie but I spend the entire film thinking about Cat. Psycho might be fun, although I'd rather see another Hitch. The all nighter doesn't peak my interest at all.
Gee, I sound like ISM! ;) |
I'm thinking the audience might be fun for Psycho.

The Movie was all I expected and more -especially in the ass department. And who knew Gerard Depardieu could play such a good homosexual bestialist? Also, I will never see plastic bags in the same way anymore... |

So ... anyone tempted by the overnight?
I'm not going out of town after all - which is good, since apparently the full moon will be wrecking this weekend's Perseid meteor showers anyway. |
Ok there was earlier talk of maybe seeing Psycho at the Cemetery. Um, this may be the last chance for a genuine LoT cemetery screening outting, the ONLY one of the season (tho some people did go to an early one of I don't remember what).
Anyone interested? |
I'm not sure why they haven't announced anything past Psycho. Saturday is a remote possibility for me but I'm too tired to make any commitments. I've been working 24/7 for the past 10 days and I'm exhausted.
Well now they've announced Edward Scissorhands and Spinal Tap for Labor Day weekend. Bah, I'll be away from home. But those sound like two uber-popular titles.
OK, Last Screening of the Season - ET, this coming Saturday, Sept. 24.
Anyone? Beuller? |
Ok, that was not quite last chance - though it was the last show of the summer.
BUT - there's a Halloween Season special this coming Saturday, October 15 .... Poltergeist in the Cemetery. I cannot resist. The bf and I are going. If anyone would like to join us to ring in the Halloween Season in style, we'd love to make a party of it! |
Oh, my gods... wonder if I can talk husband into going....
Well, the August Calendar has been posted, and this is turning out to be a pretty lackluster Cemetery season.
BUT - there are two oldies and goodies I wouldn't mind seeing there - The Terminator on August 11, and The Birds on August 25. I would be sad if the entire summer went by without a single cemetery screening (bad enough I'm not doing any Hollywood Bowl this year) ... so ... if anyone's interested on pulling together one LoT cemetery show for old times' sake ... |
Actually, would love to see The Big Lebowski this weekend.
Oooh, Sunset Boulevard.
I think Sunset Boulevard already happened.
Nope. Scheduled for August 4th.
And as a sign of how generally disinterested we are, the thread from last year had to be resurrected: a 2012 thread was never created.
Well, I could be up for Sunset Boulevard as well. (Lebowski does nothing for me, sorry.)
I loved seeing Sunset Boulevard in the Cemetery - But I've done that, which makes me think about how many of these films are retreads from past seasons.
The Big Lebowski tickles my nihilist heart - but I'll be out of town. |
All times are GMT -7. The time now is 06:45 AM. |
