NFL 2011

Well it's about time. Two weeks ago the Washington Redskins sacked their starter quarterback after a disastrous 3/2 start to the season. Now with the new guy at the helm things are finally starting to get back to normal around here with a 3/4 record.

Bills draw cheers in Canada; beat Redskins 23-0

I assume that Peyton Manning is the leading contender for MVP?

Co-MVP with Andrew Luck.

Here's something I just noticed. If the 49ers and the Raiders meet in the Super Bowl, what historic contest will be replayed eleven-ish years later, hopefully with a different result?

Strangler Lewis 11-11-2011 02:20 PM

I see we need a hint. It involves a 49er and a Raider who play the same position.

Alex 11-11-2011 03:32 PM

Nothing from me. I watch football with interest in what is happening but not with enough interest to really submit much of anything about it to long term memory. That an honor limited to baseball and tennis when I was a teenager.

Strangler Lewis 11-11-2011 04:27 PM

Hmm. They both play the same offensive position.

(And as Alex can probably tell us, neither of them stabbed Monica Seles.)

Moonliner 11-11-2011 09:23 PM

Once again, the chances for a home town team playing in the Super Bowl are looking fairly grim given that the home town team is currently 0 for 9.

It must suck to be a sports fan in your town

And it's one of the cool positions. It's not on the line.

Strangler Lewis 11-12-2011 10:46 AM

It's not wide receiver.

And, okay, we'll say it's not quarterback.

Brother vs. brother?

Moonliner 11-12-2011 04:01 PM

Dogs and cats sleeping together?

Strangler Lewis 11-12-2011 04:09 PM

Okay, yes, you're right. We're obviously talking running backs here. And Moonliner, that first contest 11ish years ago was decided in Washington, D.C.

Huh... I wouldn't have thought that would be the answer. Which team does the dog play for?

Ghoulish Delight 01-15-2012 08:08 PM

I gotta think that if I had bet $10 on the NFC championship being NYG vs. SF, I would have a lot of money coming my way right now.

BarTopDancer 01-15-2012 08:19 PM

So, if I were to place a bet on the superbowl when I go to Vegas next month what should I do? Keep in mind I don't even know how the thing with the board full of numbers and score correlate and the last super bowl party I went to had a trivia contest and I won a prize for getting them ALL wrong.

Pick the team from the city you like better and bet very very little.

Moonie is suggesting a much bolder bet than I would have

BarTopDancer 01-15-2012 09:08 PM

I was going to put a few bucks on the Stanley cup so while I was there I was thinking $5 or $10 on the super bowl. Nothing I can't afford to lose, of course.

Ghoulish Delight 01-15-2012 09:35 PM

I guess it kinda depends on what you mean by "next month".

For example, if it's after the 5th, I recommend betting a lot if you can find anyone to take your bet.

By next month I meant this month. I'll be there the last weekend in Jan.

Ghoulish Delight 01-15-2012 09:49 PM

Oh, in that case just go and bet a lot of money that someone on the Raiders will get into legal trouble over the off season.
