One More Disney Day

Leap Year 2012 Brings 'One More Disney Day' to Disney Parks

Quote:

As you may have just heard on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest, we’re kicking off 2012 with a special announcement – an extra day of magic for you called “One More Disney Day.” For the first time ever, both Magic Kingdom Park and Disneyland park will stay open for 24 hours straight. That’s right, from 6 a.m., February 29 to 6 a.m., March 1, 2012, local time, you can fill the extra day of leap year with a marathon of Disney Parks fun.

We’re also launching our new OneMoreDisneyDay.com site this morning with a few surprises. Beginning today through Feb. 29, one guest per day can win a memory-making Disney Parks vacation. You can find details about the sweepstakes opportunity as well as information about a special package offer for guests of Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts on the site.

6am is a hard time to get there but I got to see the insanity. I want to make it through until after midnight. Disney at 3am! :)

madmonkeygirl 01-01-2012 06:27 PM

Same here will all depend if I have the next day off then I just might head there after work on the 29th lol

€uroMeinke 01-01-2012 10:43 PM

I did this for the 25th, and I confess it's kind of tempting as an opportunity to ride every attraction in the park. Of course I'd feel guilty doing that without Flubber & Techie7

Morrigoon 01-01-2012 11:06 PM

Need. AP. Now.

Morrigoon 01-01-2012 11:08 PM

There's gotta be someone out there nutty enough to attempt hitting both in the same day. Start in FL, skip out, catch a flight, end in CA :)

The reverse chronology was selected to avoid premier closures in the last attempt. I'm guessing chronological would be best for this one as the newer attractions more likely to be run after midnight. Need to have Tom Sawyer island and canoes completed by dusk.

Hummm.....

Virgin America
Leave MCO 6:45p, Arrive LAX 9:30pm, hit Disneyland by 10:15pm...

Who wants to play? Flippy? I'll spring for the room at DLR.

Morrigoon 01-02-2012 01:24 PM

Moonie: you might wanna consider flying into SNA instead of LAX

No direct flights and a stopover would be longer than the commute from LAX.

Kevy Baby 01-02-2012 03:37 PM

Charter a plane

alphabassettgrrl 01-02-2012 03:40 PM

Has anybody looked to see what passes will be admitted that day besides Premium?

No blackouts at all that day

Link for So Cal Select blackout dates shows no blackouts (and if this one isn't blocked out, then So Cal and Deluxe aren't blocked out either)

I gotta say, I'm getting intrigued by the Six Disney Parks in One Day concept.

If the Lot'ers do the "every attraction" in the park run how late would that go? Would I be able to join up with you all at DLR resort around 10pm'ish or would things be pretty much over by then?

Or meeting up in Florida is always an option.... :D

madmonkeygirl 01-02-2012 06:38 PM

I don't think Florida is an option. Like I said IF I am off work the next day I may consider going after I get off work later afternoon early evening at the earliest. It just all depends but I can't go from park opening at 6am until park closing 24 hours later just inpossible

€uroMeinke 01-02-2012 07:06 PM

I'll have to go back and check the timestamps on the photos we took that day, but I guess much will depend on whether or not we add a DCA bonus round into the mix.

BarTopDancer 01-02-2012 07:22 PM

The 29th is a Wednesday but I could be persuaded to take a vacation day for an epic adventure.

Kevy Baby 01-02-2012 10:05 PM

I would need to take Thursday off as well: I don't think I could function after staying up all night like I could in younger days.

Six parks in one day? I don't think you could make it to Paris and Hong Kong in one day, as well as California and Florida! ;)

Oh, you mean 2 in CA and 4 in FL. That would be a little easier, I suppose. But not as much fun! :)

innerSpaceman 01-03-2012 10:28 AM

I could never take both days after. But maybe the day after so I could do the all nighter. I really don't care about the attraction challenge. Just that the last time Disneyland was open all night was for the opening of Captain EO, before that the opening of Star Tours, then back to 1985 for the 30th Birthday and five years previous for the 25th. I'm not aware of any other times the Park's been open round the clock - so this will be the 5th - and since I've been at every one of them, I don't intend to miss it.

BarTopDancer 01-03-2012 12:01 PM

Are we really doing this?

katiesue 01-03-2012 12:12 PM

Is Disneyland closing from 6am - 8am on Thursday?

Ghoulish Delight 01-04-2012 09:36 AM

Argh. Our passes expire in a couple weeks and we were planning on holding off on renewal until Radiator Springs is open.

Morrigoon 01-04-2012 10:43 AM

If our financial situation improves, I'll be in for at least some of this. (In other words, if I have an AP by then...)

Moonliner 01-04-2012 11:01 AM

So no takers on Six Parks in one day? It would be an epic of epic epicness.

Maybe. Maybe very much. If I could go take a nap in one of those newly refurbished Disneyland Hotel rooms (and maybe slide down the Monorail slide & take in the jacuzzi), I could see myself able to survive and show up to my farmer's market the next day.

Details are yet to emerge. Here's Al to tell us more -

EDITOR’S NOTE 1/3-4: Wondering why there are no details for the 24 hour Leap Year party, like Fantasmic or fireworks schedules, overnight entertainment and dining, attractions maintenance closures, etc? It's because they're still trying to figure out the logistical nightmare brought on after this plan was hatched by Marketing gurus with no knowledge of park operations, especially in California where ride maintenance is now regulated by the state. Check back in a few weeks when they may have an idea how this will all work. - Al Lutz

Moonliner 01-04-2012 02:21 PM

Ok, if I can't get anyone to join me on the Batsh1t crazy plan, I'll happily join the just plain crazy group. It will be my 50th birthday present to myself a little early.

I've always wanted to try the Grand Californian, so I'd like to get a room there. Would anyone know of any special discounts on the room and/or a park hopper pass I could take advantage of?

From the Disney website:

Quote:

Purchase a non-discounted Walt Disney Travel Co. 3-night, 3-day Room and Ticket Package before January 31, 2012 and stay most nights between February 26 and March 10, 2012 and extend your ticket and hotel package One More Disney Day and night for free.

Plus, stay between February 26 and February 29 and receive 2 Disney FASTPASS tickets for every registered hotel Guest in your travel party, ages 3 and older. These 2 Disney FASTPASS tickets can be used in addition to any available in the theme parks and at any FASTPASS attraction.
So, can I take a nap break in your room? And will you consider the allegedly larger rooms in the beautifully refurbished DL Hotel? And can I use your pool privileges? I'll bring cheese... :D

innerSpaceman 01-04-2012 04:00 PM

You are aware that only two parks are open all night long, right? (Disneyland and the Tragic Kingdom)

Gn2Dlnd 01-04-2012 04:05 PM

Yes, I am.

and of course the chances of me making the full 24hours are slim to start with........

To clarify, when suggesting the Batsh1t crazy plan, no I was not aware of that. It would have made the six park challenge more err challenging.

However before switching to the just crazy plan, yes I had grokked that only Disneyland park is open all night.

Prudence 01-04-2012 05:25 PM

I am frantically entering the sweepstakes in the hopes of winning a trip for after Carsland opens, but our budget sadly does not allow for 24 hour Disney frivolity at the moment. My cheese is incredibly sad.

Morrigoon 01-05-2012 02:14 AM

Here's the link to the page with the sweepstakes: http://disney.go.com/memories/

Moonliner 01-13-2012 11:42 AM

Woot.

I made my plane reservations for the trip well before the airline prices jumped. Yes sir, that's $20 still in my pocket. Daddy is gonna party!

I'll be in early Tuesday evening for a good nights sleep*, and be at the gates bright and early on Wednesday.

(* ok, that's crap I'll be at the park or haunting DTD until they roll up the sidewalks before grabbing a few hours rest and being at the gates blurry eyed early on Wednesday)

BarTopDancer 01-13-2012 12:16 PM

WOOHOO!

I guess I should put in a vacation request. Now, to just take the 29th off or the 1st as well.

Morrigoon 01-13-2012 01:02 PM

OMG Moonie, you're actually doing it? WTG!

katiesue 01-13-2012 01:07 PM

I've put in for the day but it'll be a last minute thing if I can do it. It falls on a huge deadline we have at work so it'll just depend.

Kevy Baby 01-13-2012 01:19 PM

They haven't posted the hours for the parks yet for that week, but the week before, the mid-week regular hours are 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. for Disneyland and 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. for DCA.

Moonliner 01-13-2012 01:40 PM

Which begs the question, is anyone foolish enough to want to meet up for dinner Tuesday evening?

Party Tuesday night.
Party all day and all night Wednesday
Red-eye flight home on Thursday
Back to work on Friday.

What could go wrong with that?

Which night are they open all night on? Tuesday the 28th to Wednesday the 29th? If so, I can meet up for dinner Tuesday - since I'm planning to stay up all night (somehow) and skip work the next day - claiming it doesn't exist.

There was not a single solitary attraction not operating for any of the previous 4 overnights.
