Calling All Lovers - Last Change to Ride the BOBSLEDS

As everyone knows by now, the Bobsled seating on the attraction formerly known as The Matterhorn Bobsleds is coming to an end, to be replaced - after many years warning - with lawyer-approved, single seating, shoulder harnessed, less fun vehicles that cannot be called bobsleds with a straight face.

Apparently, the closure for this major change is happening this coming Monday, January 9, 2012 - and the attraction will be down until summertime.

So - I'm thinking of hitting the Park early Sunday morning for one last ride or five on the good old Matterhorn. A farewell of sorts to the beloved attraction as we've known and enjoyed it for decades.

Particularly if you have a sweetheart, the bobsled-style seating was an intimacy that bespoke a bygone era - truly to be bygone in just a few days.

:(

Anyone interested in an impromptu meet-up at the Park Sunday morning to bid adieu to the Matterhorn Bobsleds?

Shoulder harnessed? Ew.

Wish I could join you, but alas, still no AP.

Ghoulish Delight 01-06-2012 03:49 PM

We were planning on going this weekend for one last visit before APs expire. Would definitely like to go when others are going so as to have someone to handle T while we ride! We'll be there around opening, most likely.

We're there all day Saturday for Maddie's birthday.

Well, if you use your cool mod powers to change "change" in the thread title to "chance," AND if you'd be at the Park fairly early Sunday, I'd be happy to watch adorable Theo whilst you two lovebirds ride.

They are not shoulder harnessed...

I am so sad these are going away. I absolutely hate the new WDW Space Mountain seating.

NO, don't do it. Let him wallow in his suffering while we all laugh at the error of his ways.

The new sleds do not have the WDW Space Mountain t-bar - they just have a locking seatbelt.

Quick rethink, we're going to go Saturday, as early as we can manage. We'll call you, Katie.

RStar 01-07-2012 01:22 AM

Sorry, I can't make it.

And please don't call me Katie.

:D

We went today - here's a few pics.

When we were in line, the ride broke down and remained down for about a half hour. We stuck it out though, as there was no way we weren't riding it. I overheard a few CMs mentioning it to each other and adding that it's the last weekend for Xmas stuff, hence the crowds. Lots of people. It has been ages since we've been on it - thanks so much for the heads up, iSm.

BTW the Jolly Holiday (nee Plaza Pavillion) is cute. The quiche was delicious but easily half the portion size I was expecting. I also got a microscopic salad. It was so small, the cup of dressing that came with it was nearly 3/4 the size. Total rip off. The sandwiches seemed to be a much better deal.

Theo had a great time. Too bad our passes are expiring.

The Waldorf sandwich was delicious. The chocolate cupcake was minty chocolate and the frosting was more like fudge than frosting. Really rich, cake was moist but it was too much for a bunch of us to finish.

I was surprised to find it still Christmas today. That was neat. Especially since I went to the Park in lieu of taking my Xmas lights down.

Rode the Matterhorn twice. Very bittersweet. The first ride was the better of the two - really fast and we got uncharacteristically soaking wet on the splashdown.

The CMs were really nice, and we making a deal out of it being the last day.

Had a great time cuddling with my sweetie on the Matterhorn.

Bye-Bye, Bobsleds.

I'm going to have to retire two of my perennial potential Gay Day t-shirt ideas, "Care to share a bobsled?", and, "I'm Matterhorny!" :(

We're going to go tonight to get one last ride in. Probably be there some time after 8:00

katiesue 01-09-2012 05:41 PM

Kevy per the Disneyland website it's already down. Yesterday was the last day.

Kevy Baby 01-09-2012 05:53 PM

And Disneyland closes at 8:00 tonight
