Local driving advide needed

I have a 5:45 flight out of LAX tonight. Leaving from Disneyland. Have a car to return.

1) Any advice on when I should leave to comfortably be in the airport by 4:45?

2) Any route better than the Google Maps one (91 to 605 to 105)

Ghoulish Delight 01-16-2012 09:27 AM

That route should be fine, but if you have a chance to check traffic before hitting the road you should. 91 to 710 to 105, or 91 t0 110 to 105 are possible alternatives.

Traffic SHOULDN'T be too bad before 5. I'd be surprised if it took more than an hour, but if it were me I'd give myself an hour and a half to be safe. But I always err on the side of early when going to airports, so if you'd rather be a little bit late than a little bit early, an hour is probably fine.

Are you traveling alone? 710 lacks a carpool lane, so Keep that in mind as you consider alternate routes

BarTopDancer 01-16-2012 10:32 AM

I recommend a teleporter.

Traffic was insanely light this morning due to the MLK holiday (I guess?) My normal 40 minute commute took 25 minutes, which is lucky since I left 25 minutes before I was supposed to be at work.

Alex 01-16-2012 11:25 AM

Yes alone. Forgot about holiday traffic so hopefully not bad.

Kevy Baby 01-16-2012 11:32 AM

Technically speaking, from Disneyland, you would take the 5 to the 91. But otherwise, the info above is sound for today. If today weren't a holiday, I would allow for more than an hour.

Morrigoon 01-16-2012 12:57 PM

I still would... in the afternoon people will be returning from wherever they were all weekend.

Moonliner 01-16-2012 01:05 PM

Do cars with two passengers get to use the carpool lane? If so how much of a difference would that make for a trip from LAX to DLR on a non-holiday Tuesday evening round about 6:30pm?

Morrigoon 01-16-2012 01:07 PM

6:30 pm? Shoot yourself now.

Ghoulish Delight 01-16-2012 02:09 PM

Only 1 passenger (2 total occupants) are required to use the carpool lane. And it would make a significant difference at that time. Still going to be slow, but it will definitely help a lot.

Finished at DL earlier expected so I'm just going to kill time at the airport. Took 45 minutes to car rental return. Shuttle will now take several days I expect.

The carpool lane helps a lot if you're traveling on a freeway that has one. (The 5 start south of the 91 and the 710 has none). The best route to take at 6:30 would be the 105 East to the 605 South to the 91 East to the 5 South. There is a carpool lane for the 91 to 5 transition and a carpool exit to Disneyland Drive.

At 6:30 traffic won't be too bad. You;ll get bogged down at the 105/605 interchange and possibly at the 605/91 interchange but if it take you longer than an hour (it's 35 miles) I'd be surprised. Just stay off the 405 and the 22.

If you want an adventure (that will take longer) get on Sepulveda, which runs parallel to the entrance to LAX, take it South. Sepulveda becomes Willow through Long Beach then it becomes Katella in Orange County. You'll end up at Katella and Harbor which is where Disneyland is. Sadly, there's not much of anything exciting to see along the way.

The Wild Goose or the bottomless place?

Excellent. I've decided to splurge just a bit and not rent a car for this trip. I'll ask my driver to to take the 105e route and that he'll have to contend with NA's wrath if I'm unduly delayed.

I assume that's a strip club? I spent three hours at the Gate 38 charging station laying out MouseAdventure puzzles. Very titillating stuff.

Morrigoon 01-17-2012 01:54 PM

105, is that the one that goes through Norwalk? Good choice :)

Did you recruit any players or staff?

Alex 01-17-2012 04:10 PM

No, are you interested?

JWBear 01-17-2012 05:13 PM

I still want to know what an "advide" is....

Starts in Norwalk and runs West to LAX

Ghoulish Delight 01-17-2012 09:23 PM

Actually it starts at LAX and runs east to Norwalk.

Alex 01-17-2012 09:40 PM

Actually, it starts at the I-5 interchange in Eugene, OR, and goes a few miles before petering out at 7th Avenue, still in Eugene.

Really, the world isn't all about LA. Even in threads asking about how to drive around LA.

No, actually it started back when I was in elementary school (Downey tried to push it into Bellflower where I lived and Bellflower pushed back) and didn't get built until I'd been married, a mom, divorced, and was using it to drive to work.

This should be a mouse adventure quest.
