With deepest apologies to Herman Melville

Call me 3894... or Helen. Some years ago - never mind how long precisely - having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me on shore, I was born and thought I would celebrate the anniversary of birth by sailing about a little and see the watery part of the world.

Happy Belated Birthday!

It looks like a lovely afternoon on the verandah, I'll be right over!

Cadaverous Pallor 07-04-2012 10:16 PM

"Won't you join me for cake on the verandah?"

CP turned towards the setting, then tried to hide a gasp of delight. Generous slices of coffee cake waited beneath a glass dome. A round, friendly jug of fresh lemonade stood by alongside shimmering green glass tumblers. Sunflowers and snapdragons, too perfect to be real (or were they?) perched happily in a creamy vase. Bright lemons and candles added even more aroma to the air. A cloth of hand-stitched embroidery paired with a vintage scarf warmed the wrought iron table.

"Well?" 3894 looked quizzically at CP, who hadn't yet recovered. "If you're at a loss for words, just call me Helen."

Her eyes darker than sapphires swept over CP approvingly. "Well done," she said in that deep and dusty voice. "I want to read a novel by you some day."
