In need of LoT mojo!

I mentioned a while back that I was diagnosed with skin cancer. It's invasive melanoma, stage 1B (1.4 cm deep). It's an early stage, so I have a high survival rate. invasive melinoma is the kind that can spread into the body, and is the deadliest form of skin cancer.

On Monday the 16th I will be having some lymph nodes removed to see if it has spread. Also, they will be removing more of the skin on my back where the tumor was, to get get clean margins to be sure they get all of the cancer cells from the site.

I'm sure some of you know what I may be going through when told you have cancer, but I do have a very good prognosis at this point. This lymph node test will give a more precise prognosis. If they are clear of cancer cells, it's the best prognosis. Not 100% that I'm cancer free, but at least the chance of it popping up internally is reduced to the single digits. I will need to go get checked by the dermatoligist every 3 months for the first year, every 6 months for the rest of my life (a small price to pay).

So, your mojo/good thoughts/vibes/prayers worked so well for my wife, I thought I'd solicite some for myself. I'm not the type of guy to ask for help for myself, but I've learned humility as I've gotten older and with everything going on in my life lately.

I thank each and every one of you for your support, I'm proud to call you my friends.

Sending good thoughts your way - and glad to hear the prognosis is good. Once the procedure is done on Monday, how long will you have to wait for results?

And this is a reminder to get that spot on my back checked out as well.

Moonliner 07-14-2012 07:11 AM

They say beauty is only skin deep, here's hoping ugly is as well.

Buckets of Mojo coming your way...

RStar - best of luck. My sis-in-law had a battle with melanoma and it wasn't easy. Modern medicine is amazing. May your doctors be smart and capable!

Good mojo and positive healing vibes your way.

RStar 07-14-2012 02:13 PM

Thanks everyone!

My Dermatologist sent me to a good doctor who specializes in general surgery, vascular surgery and surgical oncology, and has 42 years experience as a MD. He is set up to work with skin cancer mostly, and specializes in melanoma along with a "Nurse Navigator" in the Melanoma Program through St. Joseph Hospital. They are vary caring, helpfull, and give you a ton of info, spending as much time as you need to help you understand everything.

I will get the results of this test in a few days. That's the nice thing about doing it on a Monday, I'll have the results sooner- before the end of the week. I'll let you guys know as soon as I know.

That reminds me. I need to schedual that colonoscopy!

Well, I'm feeling rather beat up, but the surgery went well. All that is left is to heal and wait for the results. I wasn't worried about the surgery, it's the results of the biopsy that keep me up at night....

cirquelover 07-17-2012 08:08 AM

Still sending positive vibes your way, glad the surgery went well. Hang in there

lashbear 07-17-2012 10:08 AM

Forget the colonoscopy - its a pain in the ass.

:D

RStar 07-18-2012 02:34 PM

Well, I'm still in a fair amount of pain, but the dressings are of today and I can take a shower! Yay! I got good sleep last night and that helps.

I'm going to go to work tomorrow for part day. I have a 7 hour class at work I need to go to on Friday, then back to the usual grind. And waiting for the pathology report....

Boy, I hope it's negitive!

alphabassettgrrl 07-18-2012 03:26 PM

Glad you seem to be getting around a bit! I'm hoping for a gorgeously negative pathology for you, too.

cirquelover 07-18-2012 10:26 PM

 Here's to negative results!

Betty 07-19-2012 08:10 AM

You never want a shower more than when you can't take one! :)

I'll drink one for negative results too!

RStar 07-20-2012 02:15 PM

Good news!! :snap: :snap:

The Mojo of LoT has amazing properties! I wish we could bottle it!

My pathology report came back early, and is NEGITIVE!!

While nothing is 100% in life, what this means is that the chance of me getting cancer over a regular person is so small that it's not worth mentioning. As far as they can tell, I'm cancer-free!

I have a higher chance of re-occurance (like 10% more than others of my age, skin type, and genology) so I will do the smart things we all should do:

1) Limit sun exposure (I was doing the opposite)

2) Self exams once a month. This can be fun if done right, which includes soliciting the help of a friend or loved one.

3) Regular visits to the dermatologist. I will be seeing the derm 2x/ year (after the first year), & the surgeon once a year.

So, again, thank you all!!

I will be calling on you one at a time for my self evals. ;)

katiesue 07-20-2012 02:18 PM

Great news!

SzczerbiakManiac 07-20-2012 02:40 PM

WooHoo!!

mousepod 07-20-2012 02:41 PM

Great news, indeed!

cirquelover 07-20-2012 03:06 PM

That is wonderful news!!

flippyshark 07-20-2012 03:24 PM

How nice to hear such great news on a sucky day. This makes me happy.

CoasterMatt 07-20-2012 03:26 PM

Wonderful news!

Ghoulish Delight 07-20-2012 03:27 PM

Glad you failed your test!

blueerica 07-20-2012 04:42 PM

Fantastic!

Kevy Baby 07-20-2012 06:51 PM

Yeah!

Strangler Lewis 07-20-2012 07:34 PM

This is the good kind of negativity. Congratulations.

alphabassettgrrl 07-21-2012 02:37 AM

Excellent news!

lashbear 07-21-2012 05:12 AM

I have to spread the mojo around, so VRSM :snap:

RStar 07-21-2012 03:11 PM

I think I'll go into the kitchen and come up with some "LoT Mojo Spread" I can bottle!

I'm thinking a sandwich spread of Basalmic Bacon Tomato & Carmalized Onion Jam!

lashbear 07-21-2012 07:50 PM

with Vegemite !!

RStar 07-21-2012 11:59 PM

I actually thought of that, but with this sweet smokey profile I'm thinking about, the salty musty profile of Vegimite could muddle it up too much. But it's worth a try!

lashbear 07-22-2012 07:11 AM

A man who knows his flavours. Genius.

Moonliner 07-22-2012 09:27 AM

Put me down for a case.

Boom! Christmas shopping done.

Betty 07-22-2012 01:21 PM

Yay! :snap: :snap:
