Saul Zaentz - Won 3 Academy Awards, but more importantly is the producer of the animated Hobbit and Lord of the Rings movies from the '70s. And those, while not all that great, are much better than four out of five Peter Jackson Tolkein movies so far.

That is so sad, he was an amazing actor. |
Animator Arthur Rankin Jr. (89)
|
That's sad. Another name I didn't recognise at first, but know his work well. RIP Arthur.
|
Richard Bull, the store owner on Little House on the Prairie.
|
At first I thought you said Richard Moll had died.
I really liked Richard Bull on LHotP. |
Shirley Temple
|
Brilliant funnyman Sid Caesar. :(
|
My cheese is also sad.
|
And the hits keep coming, folks.
Ralph Waite is gone. |
Guess the writers of NCIS regret not taking the option to kill off his character last season.
|
John Henson, Muppeteer and son of Jim Henson.

Bob "Bob 2" Casale of Devo (61)
|
Mary Grace Canfield (89)
played Ralph on Green Acres |
Christopher Malcom (67)
He played Brad Majors in the very first production of The Rocky Horror Show and the father of Saffy in Ab Fab. |
Maria Von Trap (99)
She was a distant cousin....her great grandfather Robert Whitehead (Inventor of the self propelled torpedo) was my great, great, great, great, great grandfather. |
Also, champion of the long-form joke setup, for the classic "How do you solve a problem like Maria?"

If we can all now agree to stop watching the movie, something good willhave come of this.

Bad times for game show hosts.
Geoff Edwards I used to walk home from school for lunch and watch Jackpot! Geoff Edwards seemed quite rakish. What he was doing being 83, I don't know. |
|
David Brenner
Used to love him. Haven't thought of him in years. Stunned he was 78, but I guess it makes sense. |

The Ultimate Warrior
Not much technically, but a great look and entrance. Let's not forget he destroyed Andre the Giant in 30 seconds. Of course, Andre was past his prime then. Anyway . . . Another casualty of his era and ultimately stranger in real life than in the ring. RIP. |
And only 54.

Rik Mayall (56)
Americans will probably know him best from The Young Ones, but to me he'll always be Ricky from the Rest Home from Shock Treatment. |
Bob Welch
As I hated both the Yankees and the Dodgers at the time, I frankly can't recall if I was rooting for him or Reggie in that epic confrontation. I think Reggie. But it was epic. RIP, Bob. Dodgers suck. |
Casey Kasem
That was the first time that I knew days in advance that a famous person was going to pass away. He could not speak, so the man with the golden voice had been silent for quite a while. He had no quality of life, and it was time. But it is still very sad, and his current wife only made things worse from the sound of it. |
Gerry Goffin (75)
Composer and ex-husband of Carole King. You may not know his name, but you've heard his songs:
|
Mary Rodgers (83)
Daughter of computer Richard Rodgers (of & Hammerstein fame), she was a gifted composer herself. She wrote music for Once Upon a Mattress, The Mad Show, and The Madwoman of Central Park West, among others. She also contributed songs to Free to Be... You and Me. She wrote the children's book Freaky Friday which was made into a feature film in 1976, for which Rodgers wrote the screenplay. She's also the mother of Tony-winning composer Adam Guettel. |
Meshach Taylor
I have known his wife, Bianca for many years and met Meshach a couple of times. He was a very ginuine man and quite caring. He will be missed. |
I was really surprised to learn he was 67. He was quite a bit older on Designing Women than I thought.

Bob Crewe (82)
Record producer, singer and Four Seasons co-songwriter |
Jan Hooks (57)
SNL cast member from 1986-1991 tour guide (Can you say "adobe"?) in Pee-Wee's Big Adventure I loved her comic gifts. This makes me very sad. |
Mike Nichols (83)
One of America's most celebrated directors, half of the comedy team Nichols and May, and EGOT recipient. |
Dat stinks.
