So what's new at DLR?

Yip!

We get a quick Disney fix this month! Headliner and I are heading out for a couple of days ostensibly to visit a local institution of higher learning but really more of a one last father-daughter trip before sending her off to college in the fall.

So, what's new since Sept of 2012? I assume Carsland is still must of course, anything else new or improved?

Crystal 01-03-2014 03:03 PM

What are the dates of your visit? Is it possible that there will be a LoT meet-up? If there is, I would LOVE to meet up with you all. I am living and working in downtown LA now, so any time works for me!

alphabassettgrrl 01-03-2014 04:06 PM

OOhhh, how exciting!

Thor meet-n-greet in Innoventions was kind of neat. Really detailed throne room, which was cool.

Something exciting at Innoventions? I'm aghast!

Sadly, many of us have been priced out of the parks - but should there be a Downton Disney excursion, I'm in.

Will Lady Minnie find love after Mickey Crawley's death?

How about a dinner at Story teller's on Friday Jan 17th?

Unfortunately, I'll be in Joshua Tree that day

Cadaverous Pallor 01-04-2014 01:35 PM

Gah, wish it weren't that weekend. :(

katiesue 01-05-2014 01:57 PM

If you're there the 18th we'll be at Trader Sams at 5ish for Maddie's birthday. Everyone's welcome. I'm passless now as well.

Also FYI - the Tinkerbell half is that weekend as well so it may be busier and the parks may open later a couple of the days.

Cool. We are in town on the 18th but there is talk of dinner with my local family members, if we are not tied up with that we will stop by.

Moonliner 01-09-2014 07:57 AM

Grrrr!

We are arriving late on Thursday and were planning to see World Of Color using the Picnic Lunch fastpass deal. I went to order it this morning and found out two things. First, Disney canceled the Picnic Lunch program some time ago, and second I am now one day too late to book a WoC dining package.

Anyone have any recent experience on how early fatspasses for WoC run out?

Alex 01-09-2014 08:04 AM

Don't know how important specific seating for you but when we were there last week everybody we knew going to see it (we didn't ourselves) was just walking up 15-20 before showtime.

katiesue 01-09-2014 11:04 AM

You can also check for walk ups on the dining package.

Moonliner 01-09-2014 11:34 AM

OK, so the take away here is not to panic. Yeah. I can do that.

Thanks.

katiesue 01-09-2014 11:55 AM

Per the Mouseplanet update World of Color is dark on Thursday the 16th, coming back on Friday.

Rookie mistake Moonie! You'er better than that. Get your **** together.

katiesue 01-09-2014 02:48 PM

Fantasmic's dark when you're there the whole time, in case that was your next plan.

I know you too well; I don't see that happening.

What I would really for you to do is to make ZERO plans for this trip. Think you could just "wing it" one time?

Last week I went to the movies without pre-purchasing a ticket online first. I just walked up to the ticket window. Little steps.

Alex 01-10-2014 07:01 PM

I just got to Orlando for a week. With no plans as to which parks I would enter when or what I'd do in them and bought an AP.

So far, having been here since Tuesday night I've spent about 4 hours inside parks and have so far done one ride and have not used an eating reservation.

Join me in the just winging it lifestyle.

Whoo! :) Living dangerously.

Moonliner 01-12-2014 04:51 PM

I've got a fairly packed schedule, but OK I'll try to pencil in some time for being spontaneous.

Moonliner 01-15-2014 07:48 PM

Noooooo!

The Tiki Juice Bar is closed for rehab. No Dole Whip for me on this trip I guess.

Still, my bags are packed, I'm ready to go. We leave at first light.

RStar 01-16-2014 07:59 AM

Don't forget to plan to have some fun!

Moonliner 01-16-2014 08:04 AM

Does getting felt up by TSA count? Because that is how my day started.

Still we are in the air and on our way... Save us some sunshine!

cirquelover 01-16-2014 08:37 AM

Have a great time Moonie!

alphabassettgrrl 01-16-2014 11:43 AM

OOoohhhh!!!!! Travel safe and have a great time!

Moonliner 01-16-2014 08:41 PM

Sitting on paradise pier.
Day 1 almost over.

Aladdin show has the flying carpet back!

Carsland is so much cooler at night.

Ditto for the racers.

Tower still makes me want to puke, but so worth it.

Goodnight.

Moonliner 01-17-2014 09:06 PM

Day 2 going strong.

In "The Spot" waiting for fireworks.

Missed the party at Sam's. Not sure by how much. We got stuck on pirates for an hour (20 min posted time) and did not make it there until 6pm.

Gn2Dlnd 01-18-2014 12:41 PM

Week-old news that you may have missed: The Billies have been "retired" from DL, and have taken up residence at Knott's.

katiesue 01-19-2014 05:04 PM

Ack how did we miss you? We were there until about 8:30.

Glad you guys had fun though. How was the school tour?

Did I get the place right? Trader Sams at the Disneyland hotel?

Moonliner 01-19-2014 09:16 PM

*whew*

Exhausted, but happy. We had a great time. I finally had a chance to ride the canoe's for the first time ever, Indy cars now have padded seats (that is new right)?

Had a private ride on pirates. Went first thing in the morning and nobody else was there yet.

Headliner was very impressed with WOC.

Meet a guy who gave me a guest pass to visit the Hollywood Magic Castle. Should
I be impressed with that?

Missed seeing Disneyphile running, sad about that.

Made it to LAX waaayy too early, so here I sit.

Weird to be here and not see any of you. We need to work on that for when I come back at the end of August to (I hope) run my first 10k.

Yes we were outside on the terrace. Hmmm well I'm sorry we missed you.

Sounds like you had a wonderful time otherwise.

alphabassettgrrl 01-20-2014 05:52 PM

OOoh, Magic Castle! Wish you could have gone. It's a "private" club for magicians and their guests. A place I need to get an invite to. Expensive restaurant, magic shows going on, and tricks built into the clubs.

Glad you had a good time at DLR! :)

I'm very excited because Moonliner is buying all of us passes. Or he's going to lobby Disney so hard that they will bring the price down to levels us peons can pay without bankrupting our entertainment/travel/gifts/clothing/food budgets. Either way, excited! :D

Seriously - so sorry we missed you, if we weren't out of town we would have been at Trader Sams....and you would have missed us anyway.

lashbear 01-22-2014 07:01 AM

We need to synchronise for a LashMoonie Meet.

You should join me there Aug 30th 2014 for the Disneyland 10k. You have seven months to get ready.

Moonliner 01-22-2014 01:17 PM

I was watching my Webcam from work today when I saw UPS dropping off my Disneyland swag!

I could not resist this little beauty:

Oh happy memories of using those ticket books as a kid. However I might have fallen pray to Disney Fever. I just found the same item on Ebay and by "same" I mean identical. Right down to the serial numbers on the tickets. Rooh Rooh Shaggy I think I purchased a set of reproduction tickets. I'll check the fine print when I get home.

Wait....

Damn, it says "Limited Edition of 1955" but has an E-Ticket for the Matterhorn.

So yeah, now I'm fairly sure I was stupid. I'm going to now assume that "Limited Edition of 1955" means they printed one thousand nine hundred and fifty five of these.
