What nerdy thing have you done today?
 

I'm ashamed to admit that until tonight I was a 36yo nerd virgin. No longer. I have soldered!

Been meaning to turn Theo's "traffic light lamp" from a box with colored plastic and some bulbs into an actual controlled traffic light. Tonight was the night. Whipped up a simple control loop on my Arduino. A few LEDs, resistors, and a bare minimum of swearing later (only screwed up the circuitry once and the soldering once), voila!

Very nice, GD! There's a little bit of knowing when things are hot enough, and then cool enough. But once you master that, it's a snap! :snap:

I'm going to see two Kraftwerk concerts tonight.

Did much YouTube learnin' before I started. Went really easily. Though in hindsight I wish my first project had been with a PCB rather than trying to pin down bare wires for my first attempt. That complicated things. But hey, it only gets easier form here, and I pretty much nailed it so I can't complain.

Of course now my Arduino is captive....

And how was Kraftwerk €?

Perfect excuse to purchase a few new ones.

I just learned that ctrl-shift-n is a keyboard shortcut to create a new folder in Windows Explorer!! Yay!!!

I too have soldered. And I decided that the reason I was getting a graduate degree (this was for one of my library science classes) was so that when it came to soldering I would just pay someone else to do it.
