Major pub crawl

One man's mission: to visit 1,000 bars in a year.

I want to try this sometime.:D

Motorboat Cruiser 05-29-2005 03:42 PM

Wow, that will be quite a feat to average 3 bars a day. Although, in the story it says that he once hit 12 in one day. I guess with days like that, he gets to take a day off once in a while. It doesn't sound like he is doing too much of that however.

 A Cocktail Geek Quest - I love it!

Ok, dude's my new hero! I'll raise a glass to him tonight.

“He’s been pretty responsible,” Chin said, “with a few lapses we won’t talk about.”

Sounds famililar. I wonder if he is in need of an assistant? Cheers!! ~ Bottoms up, Dan!!

It's so refreshing to see that there are still goal-oriented people around. (Hic!)

blueerica 05-30-2005 10:03 AM

Hmmm... I wonder if there could be a similar feat. Perhaps not by just one of us, but say a pub crawl of a different sort. We list the bars we go to, and we must provide proof; a digital picture would probably suffice. We need to hit a certain number goal by whatever deadline we give ourselves. 100 days? I don't know. I just woke up. Don't mind me. But if someone puts out some sort of cocktail challenge, I'm down for it.

Maybe it doesn't have to be bars, maybe it can just be different drinks..

Hmm...

I love this idea, Erica! :snap: Maybe this belongs in the confession thread, but I'll go ahead and 'fess up here (since this is where the party people are). When my husband and I travel, we can easily hit 5 bars (or more) in a day. My husband would love this challenge. Maybe I'll get started today, they have a pretty nice bar at the McAfee Coliseum/A's game. I'll bring the camera. :D

Maybe it could be the kind of challenge where we see how many places we can go before Labor Day...?

Gah - I'm still waking up! I'm no good at this!

Sheila 05-30-2005 12:46 PM

I can think of only two places (that I would find interesting) where a goodly amount of bars could be visited in a short amount of time: Epcot and the Las Vegas Strip, both of which entail leaving the state....

Seems like any other local Southern Californian pub crawl would involve an awful lot of driving to and fro.

Will this list only include swanky places or are dives allowed? ;)

Not Afraid 05-30-2005 12:51 PM

Driving? Well, just take me along. I'm the default designated driver!

You could make a pretty good dent in the numbers around here, too, if you went to Bourbon Street in the French Quarter - but that would still entail going out of state for most of you! (Hmmmm, does going through the Drive-thru on the Daiquiri shop count as visiting?)

MickeyD 05-30-2005 02:34 PM

Hitting lower State in Santa Barbara would make an alright dent.

I'm totally up for this. Just keep track (w/ photographic evidence...hope my cell pics are good enough...my camera doesn't fit in my usual "bar hopping" purse) of the bars I go to between Memorial Day & Labor Day?

Just for fun though...I don't think I could compete professionally. ;) I don't really like to buy my own drinks that much, and the guys I hang with would probably get sick of being dragged from bar to bar to buy me drinks, since I never "throw any their way." :D

blueerica 05-30-2005 02:45 PM

Well, if you think about it, it needn't be done in a "crawl" style. Either way we look at it, if we had only 15 of us hitting 1 bar for the next 12 weekends or so, then that equals 180 bars, and that's not really even trying. LOL.

Maybe I'll have to work on this one...

dsnylndmom 05-30-2005 02:56 PM

I am so down for that idea!! :snap: for you Erica!

Yay! NA is going to drive me to Las Vegas! :D ;)

My weekend schedule is kind of booked for June, and the weekend of July 4th is set (tix for Wicked on July 3), but everything else is open.

When shall we go?

Cadaverous Pallor 06-01-2005 10:16 AM

Hmm, how about this, Erica....

We start a new thread called "LoT Pub Crawl-A-Rama" or something, and whenever anyone hits a bar, they report it, with a picture. At the end of the summer we total it up.

We could even report which drinks were purchased so we can see what the swankers' favorites are.

Sound good? No huge motivation or planning involved, just a list, and huge numbers at the end of summer. :D

Kels 06-01-2005 02:00 PM

I read the title as "Major Pug Brawl". Me thinks it's time for new contacts. hehe.

Eliza Hodgkins 1812 06-01-2005 03:15 PM

My idea of a pub crawl is to go in walking and to come out crawling. I have too large an attention span for bars. If I go to one I like, I want to stay there. And usually go there again the next time, and the next time. I haven't found my Cheers, yet, but someday. Someday!

I'm a bar loyalist, I guess. I like trying out new places, sure. But the traditional pub crawl of going to many bars in one night? Not for me. I like staking my place next to the cranky old regulars, where I spend the evening hoping they'll maybe throw some my way.

Fun! I second this idea:cool:

Wanna try a fun one? Try drinking at every alcohol serving location on Citywalk in one night :D
