Soooo....
What are you doing right now?
|
Posting.
Actually, just finished dinner, and avoiding cleaning the kitchen. |
Swanking off.
|
Thinking about dinner, recovering from bleach sniffing and eating peanutbutter pretzles while folding laundry, cleaning the bedroom and reading 3 different boards.
|
It's commercial on West Wing..so of course I'm checking the boards!
|
Trying to warm up my frozen feet! I ran around today with shoes and no socks. The sun was shining, but it was like really chilly outside, man. My dogs are like popsicles and I don't dig it!
|

Me? I'm (not) working. |
Reading three different boards, trying to stay awake and now thinking of peanut butter pretzels, thanks NA.
Hey at least I'm lost in the lusting over my Coach Bag(on sale  )anymore |
Working. Multi-tasking. Reviewing a talk I have to give this weekend. Overseeing a class. Drinking coffee. Posting.
EDIT: I'd probably be writing a paper too, but I accidentally left my bag with my reading & assignment at home today. Probably subconsciously on purpose, since today has been the busy day from hell. |
multi tasking....reading several boards, hanging out in a chat room with some other moms, on yahoo with a couple people.. my usual evening routine.
|
Stealing a moment at work to check the boards...shhhhhh

Watching Lost. Can't believe they did what they just did. Just got home from baseball signups and going through all of the apps to see what we are going to do about teams. Checking the boards. I'm multitasking. :D

Eating breakfast (granola and coffee) while checking out last night's happenings in LoT.
|
Getting ready for work. YUCK!!!
|
Enjoying my coffee, catching up on the LoT..thinking I need to go get the Wonder Kids out of bed...remembering that Kat didn't have a shower last night before bed...so she'll have to do it this morning...ugh!

Waking up, checking out the day outside, it's cold and smells like skunk. I have to get my garbage cans out by the curb, collection day. |

Drinking very bitter coffee and reading posts on this swanky place
|
Reading and posting on too many boards instead of making phone calls for Chloe's preschool auction. Procrastination, basically. I'm also drinking black chai tea (black teeth tea) and not feeling a buzz because I'm only on my third cup and I need at least 2 more to wake up.....at 11 am.
And IMing. :D |

I'm going to make some hot cocoa with mini marshmallows on top. Like Tina said in another thread, it's really cold today! |

I'm doing NOTHING! Zip..zada..zilch!
(well actually I'm posting here..but that's beside the point) I'm thinking of taking a bubble bath, then doing my nails, then perhaps having Starbucks for lunch...but who knows... |
Reading stuff I both do and do not want to read.
Drinking coffee Making my to do list |
Eating a cinnamon rasin bagel (breakfast) & thinking about work...
|
Finishing lunch (Trader Joe's Fiesta Chicken and Vegetable salad), and relaxing.
|
Avoiding work.
|
Just finished booking a cottage to stay in over Wellington Anniversary Weekend.
Grrrrrrrr.Can't. Post. Link. Technically. Challenged. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr. |
Pretending to work on the computer. Thinking about what I have to turn in at class tonight.
|
I'm assembling nametags. Of course, I'd probably be done assembling nametags if I was just assembling them, not assembling them and posting/lurking at the same time, but whatever.
|
Continuing to laugh about MickeyD's jeans.

Losing things on eBay because I am overly consumed with the LoT. Damn, I guess NA's virtual shopping thread is helping me to save money. :)

|
For the last hour, I was watching Oprah and then checking LoT during the commercials.
Have you ever noticed that she has 500 commercial breaks during the last half hour? :D |
I just finished being the designated victim in civil procedure. There is no deeper circle of hell. An hour of grilling on "Teamsters Local N. 391 v. Terry." Based on the number of "ums" uttered, you'd never know I did well on the exam. I want to crawl into a corner and die. Or eat lots of chocolate.
I'm currently pretending I'm invisible. |
Just finished dinner/dishes, time to catch up on all the message boards before the Thursday line up starts.
|
I am playing with avatars and having a pity party.
|
Eating a bowl of cereal for dinner -- shredded wheat. Waiting for the kettle to boil. The good life.
... and the kettle is whistling. Ahh, how I do love that sound. I even love it when, early in the morning, I hear that beloved call to water coming from other apartments. Someone, somewhere is making themselves some coffee. 0r, perhaps its tea? I would like to think its gonna be some instant oatmeal, but then I'm a romantic. |
Trying to figure out what to eat for dinner, and hoping her friend Kevin gets off the plane soon. Yeah.
|
Getting ready to go to the gym (Pump class tonight)
|
Just got home from work a bit ago, and am still trying to warm up. My fingers are so cold I can hardly type. The Girl just came in and excitedly said "Mom! It's gonna be 5 degrees naked tonight!" I assume she meant negative.
|
I'm eating haystacks, catching up and having 4 too many one line conversations at once. I'm so busy I can't seem to put socks on my freezing feet!
|
I am waiting for my bf to call me. His show should be over by now.

OMG...I'm watching a story on Primetime Live. It's one of those scary stories about germs that they find from samples taken from any given place. They are focusing on gyms tonight. They just described a deadly germ found on a medicine ball at a swanky gym in NYC. They said swanky -- yikes! Deadly germs in a swanky gym. What will we do?
Frightening story! It's beyond me why people don't wash their hands after they use the bathroom???? Very un-swanky.... |

Contemplating what to have for lunch.
|
I'm feeling a bit zombie-ish this morning as well. Worked an 11 hour day yesterday, and now I'm getting a cold. Luckily, my shop called to say my first appointment had to cancel, so I get extra p.j. time. It's a blistering 7 degrees outside, so I'm thinking of breaking out the shorts.
|
On a tea caffeine high. Can't wait to get home and tackle laundry, the messy kitchen, and the dead ants, as well as packing for a trip to Seattle, plus perhaps more photoshop service for swank's sake.
I'm also wishing I could be on a caffeine high everyday, but it totally screws with my system. I guess I'll be less productive most days. Sigh. |
Just got back from walking 4 miles in Sabino Canyon National Park..it's so beautiful there! Makes you forget you live in the desert!
Re-Fluffing the load of laundry in the dryer (I think this is like the 4th time! ) Then I'm gonna think about lunch and clean my 8 year old teenager's room! :( |
Finally reading this thread. Looking at my bed over there, with my covers turned down, my electric blanket turned up to 5. Cursing my Obsessive Computer Disorder that keeps me so very far away from electric blanketland.

I know the feeling. I have a job interview tomorrow and I just can't seem to sleep. Instead, I've been pouring over the company's website all night, trying to learn little tidbits about them and appear knowledgeable.
I'm going to go try but I can tell I'm going to just lay there. Not tired in the least. :( |
Waking up far too early for my own tastes.
|
... wondering why the 3 days I've just had off seem shorter than this one 9 hour day I've got ahead of me.
|
Drinking tea after my three hour sleep. I swear, I started hallucinating bugs on my face at one point.
Wondering if I'll sneak in a 45 min nap on my break between jobs. |
I'm thinking about how I need to be super productive today. I don't drink them very often, but this might be the day for a double latte. I need a good dose of some "get up and go!!".
|
Kicking myself for thinking it's Monday, not Tuesday, and therefore skipping breakfast expecting the usual monday donuts at the office. Looking forward to department lunch to welcome new employee that will make up for missing breakfast.

|
...putting off picking up The Boy for as long as possible. He knows I am off today so he will be peeved.
|
Thinking about lunch...today it's thai chicken & brown rice salad (leftovers;) ). It's such a nice day outside...why am I at work again???
|
Now that the Big Thaw is on (hopefully), we are going to try doing that movie thing again. It's very foggy out, though. Having a slow-mo kind of day- still in jammies.:D

Just finished watching Queer Eye for the Straight Girl. I'm avoiding putting dinner away and doing the dishes. Dogs are sleeping- nothing needed there until Ottis needs his night-time medication (thyroid pill). Otherwise I'm just surfing the net and catching up on stuff that I didn't do yesterday. Watching that chocolate stare at me.
Tomorrow I have to pay bills, mow the lawn, vaccuum, and actually catch up on doing some housework. Bleh. Re-watch the Queer Eye, fast-forwarding to the parts with Honey in them. Get ready for work later this week. I think this week we have the Symphony in. Easy week. |

I am IMing with my husband, he's out of town. I'm also enjoying the silence...ahhhh....silence. :)

I'm eating my dinner (it's so unhealthy, I'm not going to say what it is), trying not to cry because I'm feeling really overwhelmed at work, and praying that the presenter for tonights class is still showing up, even though I've left her four messages to double check and she hasn't returned my call.
|
Eating lunch - I'm about to go on Lite N Easy delivered food program, so it's kind of like a last supper - sausage tortillas with BBQ sauce & jalapenos.
...oh and checking the boards. :D |
Had to get a tooth drilled- owie!!! Didn't hurt so much at the time, but now my jaw is killing me. So far, no root canal, so I am counting my blessings. Had to take Tori to speech after, where I learned that a friend of her's from speech and the deaf pre-school is seriously ill. She's been in the hospital for six weeks in a drug-induced coma, because of uncontrollable seizures that just started out of the blue. They had to remove her Cochlear implant, and they were hoping she was getting better, but now they have to put her back into the coma for several more weeks. She's the same age as the Girl, and just a little go-getter. They can't figure out what is wrong, and no one knows if she'll pull through or have residual impaiments if she does. Ughh. I feel so badly for her parents! Anyway, now that I've bummed everyone out.... (sorry!)
Now, I am in the process of burning dinner and putting pink (temporary) stripes in the Girl's hair. |
Wendybeth: Oil of Cloves, or a large Gin & Tonic ought to do it ! :D

I'm hoping some white wine will work. (Say that three times fast-lol!) Fresh outa gin, Lash.;)
(Actually, can't stand the stuff. I do, of course, have some tequila- hmmmm.....) |
Oooh! WB, I know what I've been meaning to tell you! We got given a big bottle of tequila overseas - Don Julio, I think it is. It's really nice - I think I've got the tequila bug:D
|
Heh heh...My work here is done.;)

WB~ That's very sad about the little girl. I really feel for her family. Give T an extra big hug tonight. Sounds like you're ready for some tequila.
I'm vacuuming family room sofa thoroughly -- down comforter blankets and brushed corduroy seem to like each other. These little feathers are everywhere and they don't want to come up. Vacuuming floor and swiffing. Ahhh now the lampshades... |

I think even my dog Frodo is depressed. I'm rubbing off on him. Wow, it must be bad! :D Yep, tomorrow. Scarlett was right. But at the same time, she was loaded and didn't need to find a job. I'd by lying if I said I wasn't concerned about us living semi-together. We're both very much our own people. But I figure if I can remodel/add on enough to get a seperate 1bed/1bath flat, she can have her own place to go and come as she pleases. We'll see. And even if it doesn't happen, I'll have a small rental to add to the monthly cash flow. |
Hey, we share a home with my MIL, and it (so far) is working nicely. We've all had to make adjustments, but it works fine. Families used to do this all the time, and I think the fact that the Girl gets to be so close to her grandma is very cool.

Oh, and I also hate most comedy. I do know Ab Fab, The Avengers, James Bond, Woody Allen, Pedro Almodolvar, Hitchcock, and other odd and wonderful things that people either have never heard of or think I'm strange for liking. But, then, you all knew the "strange" part! :p Don't be alarmed, Wendy. I am uneducatable to the ways of Pop Culture. I think I need to start a support group for the "differently cultured" or maybe just one for their friends. ;) |
I feel a little better- at least you like the Cohens. And AB Fab. Okay, I'll try not to worry about you so much.
(Jim Carrey??) |
Ugh, Jim Carrey! He is among the most despised at the moment. I have a hard time with over-acting anyways, and he is the most annoying.
|
Lol! Teach me to read too fast....I thought that was a list of things you liked! Okay- I definitely won't worry about you anymore. I'm clueless about a lot of current pop culture, unless it's on Nickelodeon or Toon Disney. Never watch TV anymore- bores the hell out of me.

I am sitting in my den listening to the rain pour down on the roof. It's really soothing actually. I'm getting over a cold I acquired in Anaheim and am anxious about a new job I'm starting on Monday. I have laundry to attend to and dishes to put away. Bleh.
I am also in the middle of watching 'The Lion in Winter' remake which stars Patrick Stewart and Glenn Close. It's going to be a long 167 minutes because I have become accustomed to the way Katharine Hepburn delivered all those juicy lines. :) |

I am sitting here in my jammies, drinking :coffee: and celebrating the fact that I do not have to go in to work today! I normally have wednesdays off, but I was going to go in and do three h/c's for some friends.... I shouldn't be happy, because they cancelled due to illness, but I am glad I don't have to go in! The Girl still has her regular speech therapy appt. this afternoon, but until then I plan on just hanging out, relaxing.

Absolutely nothing.
NOTHING! That is my plan for today. I even had to call people this morning just to exclaim with pure joy that today is the day of NOTHING! Ry was a little, um, well, let's just say he wasn't as ecstatic as I when he woke up to laughter and me exclaiming "I HAVE NOTHING TO DO TODAY!" as he came to the realization he had a ton of crap to do and was already late to a photo shoot all the way in LA. I declare today a holiday for myself. The Nothing Holiday. Kind of like Festivus and Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Think of it like a birthday. Tonight I'll even have cake AND eat it too! But until then, NOTHING! Well, wait, I do plan to meet Mamabot for lunch at Bakers. Other than that, until later tonight, nothing. Sitting at the PC, listening to music or watching Usher's Rhythm City on Tivo over and over and over, maybe watch a movie, possibly Tombstone, maybe take a nap... NOTHING. Nothing. |
Ever have random thoughts or songs hit you for no reason? The other day, when there was a space in conversation at the park, I kept singing a rift from Astrud Gilberto's "So Nice".
Today, I don't know why, but I have the urge to sing 'clouds in my coffee, clouds in my coffee' when I walk around the house. I must have Carly on the brain or that I'm just vain... :) |
You're so vain, you think this song is about you.

Let's see.....I cleaned up barf at 6:30 am and went back to bed, cuddling Chloe while my husband got the girls ready and off to school. I got up around 9:30, let my sick baby sleep and watched Strangers With Candy Season 2 until I went to wake her up to give her some water.
She got up for an hour and we watched Silly Symphonies while she ate dry cheerios and drank more water, then she went back to sleep. We both have a fever, and I have a major headache. I even turned down the offer of a delivered latte. I must be sick!!! :( |
Telecommuting - sort of. Going to a meeting in the OC but missing the offramp while I daydream. Cruise neighborhoods I never knew existed, labyrinths without minotaurs. Get there late, but the speaker's just above me in the sign in - looks like perfect timing to me. Finish my coffee, still feel like snoozing. My brain travels to other places, chatting with other people who I wish were there. Box lunch and dodge a committee assignment. Nice ride home were fuzzy water rewards.

I am currently spinning my wheels after far too little sleep.
I was shocked out of slumber by a phone call, and am exhausted and worked up at the same time. I have too much to take care of today. Where's that crazed looking exhausted smiley? OK -- he wouldn't be too swank, and neither am I. Soooo.... I guess what I'm doing right now, is heading back to bed. To give it another try. |

Now I'm curious what the phone call was about. :D |
I was awakened out of my slumber by the exterminators who are tenting the house next door and our shared garage. I was hoping that, from the backyard, they couldn't see the lump in the bed who was trying to ignore them. Sadly, they needed my help, the doorbell rang, and I was forced to face the cold reality of morning.
What? 10:00 isn't morning? When you go to sleep at 3:00, it is morning - in a big way. Vampires don't like mornings. Today, I'm going to clean my closet - namely my shoes. Emelda would be proud. But first, coffee. Mmmmmmm. |
Friday friday friday
my mind so isn't at work I'm already home and cleaning or dropping donations at Goodwill or stopping at the market today's a busy one but not here at work my day starts at noon until then I'm asleep. |
Today is all about getting ready for my kids to arrive tomorrow! :D Just getting all their toys out of the closet, beds ready, stuff like that.
I think tonight the boyfriend and I are going out. Don't know the details though. I just nod my head and say "uh huh" and pretend I'm paying attention. Stupid A.D.H.D.! |
Today, dark, rainy, cold.
The one consolation was an offsite meeting But then the fires came - angry managers, defensive clerks Everyone taking things personal when they didn't have to Phone calls, status updates, and an annoying cough that isn't yet a real cold Tonight though, UCLA and Random Dance And after that, Le Weekend... |

Get better, Sick Sam. I just vacuumed with a bagless vacuum cleaner and I am amazed at how much hair my dog sheds. We just vacuumed four days ago... Wow. |
Is it enough hair for a puppy?
I'm trying to convince my parents to get a Dyson... They claim their 20 y/o bagged vacuum is still the best thing on the planet, still top of the line, still industrial strength. I think I need to find one to borrow to show them the amount of kittens that could be formed from the cat hair in the carpet. Oh that sounds gross. But with 3 cats who shed and a vacuum thats 20 years old... |

But it's cold right now, you'd think he'd want to keep a few thousand hairs to keep warm outside... :D |
I am sooo mad. Instead of taking the normal way to LA(I-5 south). My bf wants to take this route--
I-5 South- 46 East- 99 South- 58 east- 14 South!!! I think it will take longer to get down there than the normal 6 hours on I-5. Has anybody here who lives in NorCal taken this route before? |
BTD, your parents are probably right. The last time my mom brought her relic of a vacuum in for service, she mumbled about ditching it for an upright or something. The repair guy told her that she was crazy and would never find anything today that matched the power of the beast she has.
Right now, I'm basking in my first successful test setup this freaking week. It's just been one of those weeks, nothing went right. Today's been a little better. For the first half, nothing went right, but in the good, "I'm testing for problems and found one" sort of way, not the bad, "Things are going wrong even before I get to the point where I'm supposed to see if things go wrong" kind of way. And now things are finally starting to work as planned. I guess the gremlins called it an early day, this being Friday. |

Y'ever have one of those days when you're convinced that humanity is essentially evil? That every single person around you would, given the opportunity, gladly stab you in the back and trample your still-warm corpse underfoot if it meant they'd progress even a millimeter up the socio-economic ladder? I have a job right now as a switchboard coordinator, I answer about 700 calls a day. When the phone is not ringing I surf the net. |
Soooo.....
I'm getting ready for work. |
Lamenting the fact that they got the power back on over night. Powering all my equipment back on. And then waiting until all the rest of the equipment that I need to resume working to be powered on an reconfigured. That should kill a morning nicely.

I have a drinking song stuck in my head. A French drinking song. From the 1500s (first half). Let us sing and drink and make war on this bottle!

I'm trying to try to figure out what things off my to-do list need to be done. So, it's To Do list triage, first, then it's figuring out if I have the energy to do any of it.
I may just go back to bed and read about hermaphrodites. It HURTS to breath through my nose. Abused nasal passages + dry winds = PAIN. |
Ahhh...To Doing the To Do List! One of my favorite hobbies!
I'm trying to decide if I want to do the two loads of laundry sitting in the hall..or wait til they multiple! Hmmm...the ultimate dilemma! I'm also snacking on prunes..I sadly like them! I know, they're an old people food...Blame my Granny! She got me started when I was little! Is it good to eat like 20 of them in a sitting...isn't that basically like eating 20 plums...I would never eat 20 plums! Weird huh? |
Habe you noticed that prunes are not called prunes any longer, but "Dried Plums"? I prunes has a bad connotation. (I like them too.)
|
I think Dried Plums sound less appetising than Prunes...
NA, I hope you're feeling better soon. I'm at work, marvelling at how quickly Friday has come around again. Miraculous, really. I love Fridays:) |
We get raisins and prunes, but no cute name for dried apricots or apples? Where's the justice?
|
Dried Plums does sound a bit swankier than Prunes ...but your right...why is a "Dried Plum" a "Prune" and a "Dried Grape" a "Raisin"...but a "Dried Apricot" is still just a "Dried Apricot"..hmm...
Maybe we can come up with swanky names for dried fruits...we could start a Dried Fruit Revolution.... Power to the Fruit! |

So.... avoiding dried fruit and songs that get stuck in your head - I actually went to work again today. Of course, my boss was out, but I managed to get caught up on a few things, avoid a few others, and prep for next weeks Chicago trip. Still a bit wonky, but otherwise feeling okay.
|
I had the day off today. Back to work tomorrow and then off Sat, Sun and Mon. Not too bad, I guess.
I was supposed to do a thousand things today, but I played on LoT and MC all day. I watched 'Ray' and that's it. Lazy lazy lazy. But there was good news today, my sweet baboo donated $1 million smackers to charity today. We need a smilie with hearts surrounding it, like Sally from Charlie Brown when she talks about Linus. :) |

Just finished watching the Happy Days Reunion with Kat...She's into whatever I was into when I was her age right now...(Grease, Gymnastics, Smurfs, Old Movies) It's kinda fun!
So she watched the reunion show with me and giggled when I told her that I used to have the largest crush on Fonzie! Sadly, I rememberd every episode they showed...I had forgotten how much I loved that show! Sit On It! :D |
I just watched part of the Happy Day's reunion and I tried to clean my room. Everytime my bf comes over he throws everything on the floor or on my bed!
|
I forgot about the Happy Days reunion! And I should be sleeping.

I'm petting Jack after taking more drugs. I still feel like crap and my lungs are filled with phlegm. Wheeee!

Blech! NA...that sucks! I hate having phlegm...as I can never cough it up...I'm just not a good cougher...I puke when coughing too much...It's lovely! :( Have you tried that new Musinex (which I think is a horrid sounding name for a medicine! It just sounds icky!) :coffee: have some Hot Tea and get lots of rest! On a side note...I thought the coffee smilie was a piece of birthday cake for the past couple of weeks....just today I figure out it's coffee when I scrolled over it and it said "COFFEE"...I was like..Why does the cake smilie say coffee? I think I need to start wearing my glasses when posting! |
OMG Baileykat! I remember seeing an ad for that stuff and saying "I should remember this". Obviously, I didn't. It is OTC, isn't it?
I'm just taking Delsym (the scrubbing bubbles of cough meds) and Nyquil/Dayquil caps. But, I could use more help. Thanks for the reminder! |

I'm suddenly seeing dirt residues everywhere. I'm cleaning keyboards, phone cords, doorways...it's weird. It's happened to me before, a kind of an Extra Sensory Dirt Perception, and it sticks around until everything's clean and then goes away again. My spidey sense is tingling! Get the 409! My God, have you seen the crap in the keyboard?! I'm touching this??

Finally got online- my stupid computer locked up while trying to open stupid MSN Messenger (Which I hate and always turn off) and I finally just had to turn the whole damn stupid thing off and re-boot. Stupid computers. (Certainly couldn't be operator error).
Was up too late last night feeding the livestock and thinking that perhaps we have too many critters. Came home tonight to two more!!! Eric picked up a couple more Zebra finchies and now all four of them are having a party. Well, they're probably arguing about who is sleeping where and with whom, but I can't tell for sure. Their names are Harry and Ginny, and the old ones are Ron and Oliver. I tried to point out that we already have a Beta fish named Harry, and Eric said it's unlikely we'll get them confused. Allright, but the first time I find birdseed floating in the fish tank.... |
I'm drilling holes for putting up a few more pictures, trying to figure out a different place to hang my giant decorative spiders, and measuring for new draperies.
|
Hey, CM! About bloody time you got your ass posting in here. Good to see you! The spiders, however, have to go.....(Decorative?)
|
Trying to muster up the energy to get of my lazy butt and start the day.
Heading out to my college roomate's birthday party which starts here (which I am really glad is far away as I would probably spend WAY too much money there). |

We took the kids to the Ren Fest in Phoenix yesterday...It was a blast! I had never been to one and I think my husband was kinda just going along cause the kids were excited...til we got there..He loved it too! The kids had a wonderful time...I had lots of mead! (I love mead!) |

Yep...there were some very scary people there...My husband remarked that it had to be the only place that if you dressed weird normally, you fit right in there! Several women we saw put those women to shame! I seriously didn't know how many of them kept themselves "intact". It left little to the imagination!  |
So... I am finally getting some "me" time after spending the day with 3 boys (2 are 8, 1 is 9).
Why must Edwards Theaters not update their times? We went to go see the 11:45 showing of Racing Stripes. We got there and the first showing wasn't until 2:15. We went out to lunch instead and then caught it at a different theater at 1:20. After they came over here and I had to finally evict them @ 5. |
Just finished the very satisfying task of throwing out two bags of clothes into the trash can for tomorrow's trash pick-up. I finally realized I'll never swing by a Goodwill so out they go now.
Tonight's decluttering project was supposed to be cleaning out the kitchen "junk" drawer, but I found I couldn't put my laundry away in the closet because it was too full! How did this happen? So, in the course of 20 minutes (woo-hoo!), I threw out almost 40 pieces of clothing. That's kind of scary that it was so easy for me to identify the stuff that had to go.... Okay, onto the junk drawer which contains at least seven pairs of sunglasses, extra key chains, trinkets and other useless stuff that I can't bear to part with. I both love and hate decluttering, but my acquisitive ways have forced me to it.... :sigh: |

Trying to not be upset...while I was serving lunch at school...Bailey was crying. He said he got a "referral" which means detention while on the playground..for throwing a rock. Not at anyone...just throwing it. Now..I've met and been around the playground monitors...and they are wenches with a capital B! Horrid women who delite in the pain and suffering of little children. And I know Bailey...I know the tears of a "oops I got caught" face and the tears of a "I didn't do anything wrong"face...and he was for sure sporting the later...I reassured him with a hug and a promise he wouldn't get in trouble at home for this...he was still upset which means...he didn't do anything wrong! Should I stand up for him, make a fuss, or let it be? Hmmm! |

4th grade was a bizarre year for me. I had a teacher who insisted on nicknaming me Airhead. I would get an A on my spelling test, and on a number of tests, she'd write A is for Airhead, and once, she even drew a hot air balloon. She made me so mad... Anyhow, the story I'm trying to get to... a girl that used to be my friend, Jessica, decided to tell the music teacher that I'd stolen some equipment from her; two tiny cymbals. Over the summer before, a friend of the family that was a belly dancer gave me a set of tiny cymbals for my birthday. And how Jessica did covet them. At lunch that day, my friend Michelle (who ended up being one of the most tried and true people in my entire life) gave me the scoop. I didn't have music class until the next day, so I had time to contemplate what had happened. I didn't know what to say or do. I told my mom, and she was ready to storm down and proclaim my innocence to the world. Later that night, after thinking about it over dinner, I told my mom she didn't have to do anything. That I would find a way to handle this myself. My mom tells me that she was so proud of me that I said this, but that she was nervous as to what I would do. I never noticed any of it, as I was strategizing over how I was going to tell Mrs. Quist at the beginning of class the next day. How would I say it. I went to bed with a knot in my stomach. Jessica said she could prove that I had stole them! Mrs Quist, according to Michelle, looked like she was believing Jessica (after all, Jessica's mom was well-connected in the school)! Much to my surprise the next day, I ran into Mrs Quist in the bathroom. Through the cracks of the stalls, I could see her go into the next one, and my pulse ran hard. I finished what I was doing, went to the sink, washed my hands, tried to calm down, realizing that this was my moment. A moment later, Mrs. Quist stepped out from the stall. I started with, "Mrs. Quist?" and ended with, "but if you like, if you have a concert you need to use them for, I would be glad to lend you mine..." Mrs. Quist politely said "Oh... It'll be fine without it. I'm sorry I doubted you." and quietly left the bathroom. It was never brought up again. Just as a note: Jessica continued trying to be Miss Popular, but by the time we were halfway through middle school, her conniving ways had gotten the better of her, and she really didn't have many friends. I still wonder what happened to my friend that she would turn on me like that. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is to feel this one out. Ask Bailey what he would like to do about it, if possible. Running interference is a tricky game. Of course, none of this matters if his at-school punishments begins and ends with today, but I'm a firm believer that kids need to be given the tools to handle their problems, and the willingness to do something about them. Nurture it! There are times in my life today where I see myself not doing something about bad situations, sometimes waiting until things are way too late. I'm trying to recover the finesse and bravado I seemed to have as a 4th grader. Hehe. :D Anyhow, after that long ramble --- Here's what I'm doing. Typing away aimlessly on the LoT trying to pass a little time while taking a breather in the computer lab at school! |
Quote:
Erica, your "A is for Airhead" story reminds me of a teach my sister had in elementary. That teacher had it out for her. Always singled her out, sent her out of the classroom for nothing. If anyone in the room was talking, the teacher would punish my sister. If I remember correctly she even called her names the way your teacher did. A couple years later in Jr. High, my sister gets put into a remedial math class (this is a girl who qualifies for gifted programs). My parents asked that she be moved, and the school refused. Being teachers in the district and knowing their rights, they demanded to see her cumulative record. Seems that elementary school teacher had slapped a "remedial" note in her record for no reason! Now THAT'S when a parent needs to get involved, and that's the kind of thing a parent really needs to keep an eye out for. |
Ahh...Erica..your too much!
And 4th grade drama...I remember it well! I should have been in waaayyy more trouble than I ever was! I seriously just wanted to attack Ms. 200+ pound grouchy faced, never had a man, beg for leftover lunches everyday wench! I felt for him...broke my heart! Our tried and true rule is "If you get in trouble at school, your gonna get in trouble at home!" and in most cases, I know when my kids are in the wrong... Bailey's quite the socializer and has been known to get in trouble for excersing his freedom of speech....meaning...he thinks he's free to speak any time, all the time! But he's been really great this year! Argh! Parenting sucks sometimes...makes you want to seal them up in a bubble and hide them away til they are 40! So I'm off to pick them up at school and find out what a "referral" really means... |
Thanks GD!
I'm on the same boat that things are going to happen at school, he's going to get in trouble, he's going to have to suffer the consequences! I'm sure this is going to be one of those.."You've got to learn from your mistakes!" |
:le sigh:
Things will work, Baileykat. GD is quite right though. I think parents have to tread a fine line when it comes to involvement in their kids' lives. I'm sure you'll make the right decision. Honestly, based on what I hear GD & CP talk about on the boards and RL, I can't wait for them to have kids. They'll be awesome parents! |

...I am sitting here, waiting for "The Call" telling me my Blazer is ready to be picked up, wondering what sort of mischief I can get into with the rental (a zipping Grand Am).
Bk, I know that face very well. When The Boy gets in trouble at school he won't cry until I tell him that I am very disappointed in his behavior (not him, but his behavior). When he has gotten in trouble for something he didn't do he is already in tears when I get there. |

HAHAHA!! I am also under the firm belief that those that know what's up, also tend to wait to have kids. I'm not trying to pressure anyone here, man... :) I think I was just pointing out the obvious. Hehehe... Some of the best parents I know never even had a kid... |
