Fantasy Football

That's right, it's June, time to start thinking football, right? :D Assuming you've stopped thinking football.

For the past several seasons, I've been playing fantasy football through Yahoo. I've done the public leagues which just stick me with random people and use the default scoring and roster settings. I actually one my league last season and get the privelage of joining a "winners" league this season (and probably subsequently getting my ass beat).

Well, I decided that, since I'm going to get destroyed in that league by strangers, I might as well also play against people I actually give a crap about. So I've started my own league as well. I tweaked some of the league rules since some of the defaults annoyed me (you should get a point for every 10 rushing yards not every 20!). There's room for up to 20 teams in the league, though only a minimum of 4 is necessary. It's called "Lounge of Touchdowns". If you're interested, PM me and I'll send you a link and the password you'll need to join the league.

See y'all on the virtual gridiron!

Wow, I thought there'd be at least some interest.

Do we need a "crickets chirping" smiley?

scaeagles 06-11-2005 04:12 PM

I'm game.

Ghoulish Delight 06-11-2005 04:34 PM

wOOt! That's one. Remember, the longer you wait to sign up, the less time you have to obsess over arranging your draft order!

Moonliner 06-11-2005 05:50 PM

Let's see, draft order:

I'll take: Miller, Bud, and Coors (not in that order.)

scaeagles 06-11-2005 06:11 PM

While I am the veteren of many a football pool and the like, I have never been part of any fantasy football league. I would suppose there is some sort of rules/instructions on the Yahoo site - no time to sign up now, but Monday at the latest.

Time to learn something new. However, if this becomes obsessive, I will hold you responsible, GD.

Draft order?

I should fix that weatherstripping.

One can only hope. :D

I always find football lends itself the best to fantasy play because of the infrequency of the games. When I've tried other sports, I invariably got frustrated as I would get too busy, forget to check my lineup for a day or two, and come back and find half my lineup injured or their team didn't play, etc. With football, you've got a week to remember, research, strategize, and make your move. Much more leisurely and easy to keep up with.

Count me in........

Prudence 06-11-2005 09:32 PM

Arg! It's not enough that I have to deal with it here at home, but now on LoT too?

Just promise me you won't:

-Pout all week if "your team" loses
or
-Cheer for the Seahawks, because if I never hear about them again it will be too soon.

sleepyjeff 06-12-2005 12:04 PM

Gosh! By the default player rankings I get the feeling my Dolphins are not going to do too well this year :(

Ghoulish Delight 06-13-2005 09:39 AM

See what happens when a team loses a stoner?

Motorboat Cruiser 06-13-2005 10:35 AM

I used to do fantasy baseball but it just took up too much time. Unfortunately, I don't follow football enough to have much of a chance.

So, when are you starting the Fantasy Lacrosse league? ;)

Did I ever tell you about the time I played roller lacrosse on a lakeside dock in the shadow of an active volcano?

scaeagles 06-14-2005 09:11 AM

OK......I've registered my team. Anything I have to do now?

Ghoulish Delight 06-14-2005 09:22 AM

Well, you've got plenty of time, but the next order of business is selecting your draft order. You can just accept the default rankings, which are based on previous performance and analyst-projected future performance. Or you can do some reasearch yourself and customize the order if there's a player you think will do better than people are giving him credit for or that you just like. Of course, it's a draft, so you aren't guaranteed to get all the players that you rank highly, but it will increase your odds.

We've got until some time in October to run the draft, so like I said, plenty of time. Of course, the earlier we run the draft, the more time we have to make trades before the season starts.

Ghoulish Delight 06-20-2005 04:31 PM

Just bumping this up to see if I can generate any interest this week.

sleepyjeff 06-25-2005 09:35 AM

Three years ago, when I played in my first Fantasy league I set up my draft to pick all Miami Dolphins.......I wasn't doing too bad as the Dolphins had some pretty good players that year...............not too bad at all until their bye week

Won't be doing that again.

Ghoulish Delight 08-11-2005 12:44 PM

Alright, training camps are in full force (minus a few whiney hold-outs...I knew I shouldn't have drafted Heinz Ward on my other team) and exhibition games have already happened. Time for another desparate attempt to get at least a few more people interested. We need 1 more to play at all, 3 more to make it decently interesting, 5+ more to make me really happy.

In an entirely self-serving move, I'm going to move this thread into the Lounge where it will hopefully get more exposure...maybe...probably not.
