The Ultimate Geek Weekend

Ok, we all know that Disneyland's birthday is July 17th. But it appears that is not the only geekiness going on that weekend.

The new Harry Potter book comes out then. The ComiCon is that weekend, in San Diego. And Charlie and the Chocolate Factory comes out then, too!

Too bad the Revenge of the Sith didn't come out that weekend as well.

My deal is that I'm kind of bummed that I probably won't see "Charlie" that weekend. I'm a Children's Literature Geek, as well as a Burton/Elfman Geek (and who doesn't love Depp, the perfect third element?). Perhaps the plans will end up including a visit to the DTD AMC on Monday? Perhaps, but I'm willing to wait if need be.

So, is your geekiness conflicting? I know there are some that are juggling things here.

Prudence 07-01-2005 12:40 PM

Well, some of us don't have to worry about the Disneyland distraction and can spend the whole weekend curled up with Potter and Burton/Elfman/Depp.

Not that I'm bitter. Much.

€uroMeinke 07-01-2005 01:51 PM

I'll get to the New HP eventually - wasn't that excited by the last installment, so I have no burning need to find out what happens next. As for Charlie, that could be fun, but Disney will be my focus this weekend, the rest can wait.

Not Afraid 07-01-2005 02:22 PM

The only thing I will do is possibly escape from the heat and crowds in a theater. Harry....eh.....no biggie. One of us will read it first anyways with the other one waiting. I don't think either of us mind.

But, Disneyland gets my full attention that weekend.

Morrigoon 07-01-2005 02:28 PM

I'm geeking out bigtime. Friday is Wicked, followed by a run to a bookstore for the midnight HP line party, plus a visit to a party somewhere in all that, Saturday, well, I'll have HP in hand, then DL in the evening because I wanna be there at midnight when it's technically July 17th, then home for a quick catnap, into my 50's dress, to the resort at ugly-thirty in the morning to stand in line for the birthday.

I'm going to be SUCH a WRECK on Monday morning!

But it'll be soooo worth it. ;)

I wish I cared more about the book release. The midnight line-up sounds like fun.

Morrigoon 07-01-2005 04:15 PM

Come join anyway! You can appreciate kids getting excited about reading!

I still don't know where I'm going to be getting my book... waiting for d-phile to find out if Compass is having a midnight line party and takes ressies or not (I am SO NOT lining up at midnight w/out being guaranteed my book! Nor am I going to pay $40 if I can get it at Borders for $25).

tracilicious 07-01-2005 04:57 PM

I'm undecided about the HP release. For book 5 we went to Borders for the release party and won the costume contest with Indi dressed as Hedwig (he was only between 7 and 10 mos old, I don't remember when the book came out). It was so freaking adorable. After the costume contest (which had a really lame prize, btw) we went to Wal-Mart and picked up the book without standing in line. I don't think I have the stamina to make more costumes this year, although I thought of making Indi Hedwig again and making Jade the minute owl (I forget that owl's name). I'll probably just pick it up the next day.

I SO want to see Charlie, but I'll have to see if I can get Michael to run interference with Indi. I'll most likely have to wait until it's on DVD like every other movie.

And, DL, well I'm too far away. Sigh...I guess I'll get a lot of HP read, though.

Ponine 07-01-2005 10:48 PM

Well, being a force which drives Comic-con, I'll be there, wishing I was with you folks at D-land.
I want to be there, i wish I could be there, but I will be working my butt off. I will see Charlie later... after con. :)

wendybeth 07-01-2005 11:05 PM

(Pssst, Traci- 'Pigwidgeon')

I am torn between HP and DL.

Okay, not really. I luv HP, but I have an early flight, so unless they are selling it at the airport, I doubt I'll be getting it until after the Festivus. I can wait. Kind of. Well, I may stop by an all night bookstore or such on my way to the airport.......

Matterhorn Fan 07-02-2005 08:55 AM

I'll be getting HP at midnight, but NOT at a kid-filled Borders or anything crazy like that.

I will be thanking my lucky stars that I'm not at DL on the anniversary. Because it'll be crowded and miserable, and I would be in a truly foul mood if I were there. Y'all have fun, though.

blueerica 07-02-2005 09:14 AM

I'm going with this priority:

1.) Disneyland
2.) Charlie (because I can get to it later)
3.) Potter (because I can read it all betweens, or just get to it later)

Disney's birthday is just once. I'm there. :P

SusieP. 07-02-2005 12:19 PM

I'm thinking Potter at midnight, sit by the pool and read at the hotel on Saturday. What's happening Saturday night? Oh, right, the drinking! And then Disneyland on Sunday. And, Monday. Unless I have to work.

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 07-02-2005 09:49 PM

Aw crap. I hate when I make a typo.

But when I do, its usually something interesting. I guess that's why chicks dig me. (Unless it's the underwear.)

(Another movie reference that NA probably won't get.)

Not Afraid 07-05-2005 09:35 PM

Nope. Clueless on that reference as well. You keeping track?

mistyisjafo 07-05-2005 10:03 PM

I can't go the 17th! I'm going to Vegas (which is almost as good) can't believe I scheduled my trip for that weekend. What was I thinking? Or was I??

You were thinking, "it's gonna be crowded as heck at Disneyland that weekend. Surely Vegas will be less so."

And you are probably right.

Explain why I don't get movie references 99% of the time? ;)

Matterhorn Fan 07-06-2005 02:20 PM

Actually, you should be the one getting movie references, since you probably watch way more than I do. I have an excuse. :p

Should I report anything to Mousepod hotline?

Not Afraid 07-12-2005 11:31 PM

Alas my MousePod pin was stolen while at con... I beleive it was Friday or Saturday. Silly me had set my badge down on my desk.
You were there Wednesday night? aka Pro hell night? followed by Pro Reg hell DAY? Yeah, I'm not surprised we never met.
I would have been the tall brunette (tall when not next to NA) running around in panic mode.

We'll meet someday. Heck, Ally and I miss each other all the time...

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 07-26-2005 10:12 PM

Ack! Sorry about your MP badge!

Yep I was there Weds afternoon around 3pm. I was one that was "escorted" upstairs. Otherwise I would've probably seen you. You guys always do a great job. Every year. :snap:

Now security, that's another story! ;)

Ponine 07-27-2005 10:46 AM

Oh say it isnt so! I did the first two groups of escorts of "special groups"!

Being the super of course, I had to make sure my guys knew what to do. And that I knew what they were being asked to do.

(and Jesse and I are in the process of fixing my poor little MousePod.)
