I'd love to see the Musical of this one

Sounds kinda cool to me.

While I'm sure it will turn out to be cheap exploitation, it's an idea that *could* be very interesting. I much prefer remakes that drastically change key elements (like that one movie version of Richard III) than more straight-forward remakes. They do it all the time with Shakespeare, why not fairy tales?

That being said, I agree that they'll probably screw it up. But I can hope!

This might be good, no judgement from me until we see trailers....but it is still rather lame that they ran out of stories to tell.

Hmmmm. I have an idea......why don't they make an animated film of one of the classic CHINESE Fairy Tales?

I have to say I just can't muster up any excitement about this idea at all. I liked Snow White exactly as it was.

This remake of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" into a live-action film actually sounds interesting. Since it's going to be directed by Yuen Woo-ping, the fight choreographer for the "Matrix" trilogy, "Kill Bill" and "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" among many other films, then it's probably going to contain some visually-stunning action scenes.

I would rather see "Snow and the Seven" instead of some low-budget, straight-to-video, animated version of a hypothetical "Snow White 2."

Why do I see Snow White kicking the hell out of the Dwarfs?

I don't understand the consternation here.

Okay, so I get nervous anytime anyone remakes anything because lately remakes haven't been Hollywood's strongpoint.

However, in any retelling of a classic story the director can adjust various elements to highlight particular themes. They might change the time period, the place, genders and ethnicities, combine character or introduce new ones, etc... I'd rather see the director take a familiar story somewhere else than see Yet Another "Faithful Interpretation." (If it's going to be the same, why bother?)

In recent years I've enjoyed:

-Baz Lurhman's "Romeo + Juliet" (after some analysis)
-Kenneth "I can't keep it in my pants" Branagh's "Much Ado about Nothing"
-The 1995 Richard III with Ian McKellan
-Julie Taymor's "Titus" (which I *loved* more than I can express in words)

And heck, I even liked "Clueless" and "10 Things I Hate about You," specifically because they played them as contemporary, light-hearted comedies, which is (IMNSHO) more consistent with the original Shakespeare than today's high-falutin' theatre accent Shakespeare.

In a few weeks, I hope to enjoy "Bride and Prejudice" at the Fremont Outdoor Cinema. Who knows? I might hate it. But I might like it, too.

And maybe "Snow White" with the crouching tiger treatment would be fabulous. Disney certainly took his angle on the classic story. Why shouldn't someone else?

agree, excellent movie, enjoyed it once I got what she was doing, and where she was going with it. thought it was brilliant.

I think it's a cool idea. It isn't as if the Disney animated version is anything like the original anyways. It's the most creative idea I've seen from Disney in a while.

Pru, I totally dug Luhrmann's R&J, and Branagh's Much Ado.

What's funny is that my original glance at the article failed to get the point across to me that this is a live action project. I lost my faith in Disney animation a while ago. I feel a bit better about it now if I focus on Pirates...but of course there's Haunted Mansion and Country Bears to consider.

If it has a nice big budget it could be good...I've seen other movie versions of Snow that were intriguing.

I "liked" Branagh's more if the rating is "casual viewing pleasure." But after analyzing the two of them for my senior thesis I've decided that Luhrman's was smarter. Dunno if that makes sense.

And the live action Snow White could totally turn out to be the power rangers version. Or it could be a cool view of how another culture does fairy tale, but using material familiar to us. (And conversely, demonstrating the sort of material available in another culture, using a style familiar to them.)

All this talk! Now I'm feeling impatient! Where's the movie already?!
