has it been a year already? crap, time is flying too fast.

Cadaverous Pallor 08-02-2005 09:28 PM

Always makes me wish I was a goth.

surfinmuse 08-02-2005 10:57 PM

Wow I honestly had no clue about Bats Day at Disneyland. Learn something new everyday....

What a difference a year makes! Here is our beautiful Sleeping Beauty Castle one year ago, all covered up, on Bats Day, Aug. 29, 2004.

Or we can all join the fun and dress like a goth once a year at Disneyland!

Cadaverous Pallor 08-03-2005 11:34 AM

Yup, I was there, in black, with Burton-esque stockings. I'll probably do a repeat of said wanna-be-goth performance.

But it does make me wish I really was a goth, or at least, used to be a goth. I wasn't a fan of the music, but the moody alienation and the awesome clothes....sigh. I guess it's the music that stopped me. Oh, and my absolute dorkiness.

innerSpaceman 08-03-2005 11:49 AM

I missed the goth era when I was in my dark and alienated youth. But, I made up for it by being part of the original PUNK wave.

Ah well, I cherish being Goth for a day, once a year.

Morrigoon 08-03-2005 04:06 PM

I'm ticked. I found the perfect shirt, but it was in BOYS sizes.

It was a light pink and said, "All my black shirts were dirty"

Disneyphile 08-04-2005 01:10 PM

Darn. Can't make it. I'm taking a friend to the Bridal Show in LA on that Sunday.

Motorboat Cruiser 08-04-2005 01:26 PM

So, is there a reason that someone chose the hottest time of the year to have a day in which you wear a lot of black?

The day has traditionally been the last Sunday in which full summer operating hours where in place. Amazing as it seems people come from all over the coutry to attend, for some this is their annual trip to the park. It was a Sunday also to accomodate the local goths, many of whom have So Cal APs which, until the lower tier was introdiuced, were usually good for that Sunday.

Motorboat Cruiser 08-04-2005 01:55 PM

Makes sense. Thanks for the info!

CoasterMatt 08-04-2005 06:02 PM

I'm so sad I'll miss it this year :(

Cadaverous Pallor 08-05-2005 12:53 AM

If only I could have this hair in midnight black for one day:

Monorail Man 08-05-2005 02:01 AM

I'll have to do something 'different' this year. (Plus I think this is the 4 year "almost-meet" anniversary).

TheatreTech 08-08-2005 08:33 PM

It's been on my claendar for months.

belleh5 08-10-2005 07:04 PM

Darn, I'm gonna miss Bats day again!!! That Sunday is my sisters B-day! And I just dyed my hair black and chopped it all off. Maybe next year. Have fun everyone & take lots of pictures.

Yay...another day to dress up in a style not your own...It's like halloween. but in August. Everyone make sure to head to Hot Topic this week to get tour striped leggings before they sell out.

MickeyLumbo 08-11-2005 03:19 PM

ugh, i remember the heat that day. - a source of B O and perspiration to all the world!

maybe i can borrow a lavender parasol and fishnets this year.

lizziebith 08-18-2005 04:03 PM

My household is looking really interested in this; who else might be going?

Yeah I was a Goth -- I believe there are pics floating around to prove it?

innerSpaceman 08-18-2005 04:09 PM

Oh, a bunch of us traditionally go. At the very least, I think you can count on Euro and Not Afraid, Ghoulish and Cadaverous, and Zapp and ME! We're stalwarts, but there's usually a revolving cast of other ex-Goths or wannabe-exGoths.

Hey baby!

lizziebith 08-18-2005 04:15 PM

Not Afraid 08-18-2005 04:17 PM

I think I can hear you laughing in Long Beach.

lizziebith 08-18-2005 04:24 PM

You did! My face hurts from laughing!

I just checked, and I still have my crimping iron! Whoohoo! But I haven't worn eye make-up like that in years...It'll take some doin' to prepare for Bat's Day...

And luckily most of my wardrobe is still black: tres swanky, non?

Not Afraid 08-18-2005 04:27 PM

How funny! I was actually thinking about crimping this year. Straightening and crimping. Hours of fun.

lizziebith 08-18-2005 04:29 PM

And you know, in that pic, that isn't a bra-strap that's showing: it's...tape. Remember? Maybe that belongs in the LOT Confessional...

Not Afraid 08-18-2005 04:30 PM

LOL! I remember. Didn't Ingrid "tape" you?

lizziebith 08-18-2005 04:35 PM

Yes!

OMG did you just get the new Anthropologie catalog? Check out p. "x" in the insert, because if I had a spare $500 I would so buy those for Bat's Day!!! I'll see if they're online...(and they're too expensive or I'd post 'em in that other thread...)

Edit: feh, tried to link buy tinyURL won't shrink it...anyway they are the floral tapestry boots if you go to the site...

Not Afraid 08-18-2005 04:40 PM

Post 'em, post 'em! You can bank up to $1500.

And I haven't gotten a catalog in about 2 weeks.

Not Afraid 08-18-2005 04:45 PM

These?

lizziebith 08-18-2005 04:46 PM

Yes! I was going to host that image somewhere, but I'm cooking, too, so was outta time!

innerSpaceman 08-18-2005 05:47 PM

Them's ain't made for walkin'

More like tiptoeing thru the tulips, incognito.

lizziebith 08-21-2005 02:09 PM

Heh-heh -- needing to walk, and in the sun (horror of horrors!), does contrain one's Bat's Day attire choice-making. I don't want to lug my parasol around all day, sandals will be blister-inducing, any of my big ole' goth boots will be either hot or precarious; what to do? Must go start trying on outfits...

Name 08-21-2005 05:34 PM

Just remember the one mandatory item for bats day.... The umbrella.... black of course.

Boingonut 08-21-2005 09:00 PM

I am thinking about going, but I don't have anyone to go with and I would feel kind of silly all by myself plus my AP ran out last week. But I guess I would not mind paying full price to dress up like The Cure at DL now that I got the hair thing down.

Not Afraid 08-21-2005 09:57 PM

Boingonut, you will have US to hang out with! Please go!

CoasterMatt 08-22-2005 06:14 AM

YAY! I'll be able to go to Bat's Day this year after all - WOOHOO!! :D

Cadaverous Pallor 08-22-2005 10:37 AM

We can't make it. :( :( :(

It's my parents' 30th wedding anniversary on the 28th. Lame.

I want to see lots of pictures when all is said and done!

Definitely Boingonut, you *HAVE* to go!!! My first Bats Day was 3 years ago and even though I went alone I had a blast!!! I met so many fun people and 2 years ago I met Not Afraid for the first time and had a GREAT time with her and everyone else. Please come!!!

--- Mike (who is still in search of that fabled "Adult" Jungle Cruise Spiel...)

lizziebith 08-22-2005 07:44 PM

CP: Sorry you guys can't come! I was looking forward to getting to know you more... :(

We are definitely ON!

And bringing all the kids. One eleven-year-old is particularly excited:

Kid: Mommy, did you used to go to punk parties?

Mommy: Yes, honey.

Kid: Cool!!!

Kid: Mommy, did you used to go to goth parties?

Mommy: Yes, honey.

Kid: Awesome!!!

Kid: Mommy, can I get a mohawk?

Mommy: When you're older, honey...

Kid: Aww......

Said kid is SOOOOOO excited about this, because I'm letting him spike his hair...
'Tis funny being an old goth/punk mom!

FEJ 08-22-2005 08:09 PM

I promised Lisa this:

Not Afraid 08-22-2005 09:43 PM

Awwww man! I woudda done ya baby! You were just my type. ;)

Boingonut 08-23-2005 08:22 AM

I'll see what I can do to make it, but with gas so pricey and no AP I might not be able to make it. But I really do want meet everyone, and once I get a new AP I will make an effort to get to a meet :) . But it would be the best to meet everyone on Bats Day and just to go on Bats Day would be amazing!

CoasterMatt 08-23-2005 07:45 PM

Boingonut! Please do what you can to make it there - I'm probably gonna wear some old Boingo "Dia De Los Muertos" shirt, and other stuff from the old days...

lizziebith 08-24-2005 05:02 PM

What time is everyone planning to get there on Sunday?

Not Afraid 08-24-2005 05:09 PM

We will be there a bit before Noon and will be around the castle for the 1:30 photo shoot. The other BIG deal is the Mansion ride which is at 8:00 and you won't want to miss that.

Other than that, we are being a bit more "free spirited" than normal. Other fun, TBD.

DisneyDaniel 08-24-2005 05:36 PM

I'm guessing a lot of people will arrive in the Hub area between noon and 1:30 p.m.

In case anyone has not already checked out www.batsday.net, here is some of its posted information for Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005. The following is just some of the official Bats Day events, but whatever you choose to do, it will be a great day for people watching--both the goths and unsuspecting guests.

Meeting Times and Locations for Bats Day in the Fun Park 7 2005

Bonus meet location: 11:45am – Snow White Musical at the Fantasyland Theater
(There will be NO photo taken at this meeting spot. If you want to attend this show to cheer on the Villains, please line up for it at least 30 mins before. Disneyland has told me that there is no line saving or reserved seating for us.)

1:30pm - The Castle (Main Street side) (Massive Group Photo)

4:15pm - The Baby Bats Photo, for parents and their kids only.
At the Sword in the Stone next to the Carrousel in Fantasyland. Once the actual Sword and the Stone Ceremony is over, the Baby Bats Photo will be taken. The Sword and the stone show starts at 4:15. Don't be late.

8pm - The Haunted Mansion (Group Photos and Ride)
Please make sure that if you want to be in any of these photos, that you get to each location 15 mins before the time listed. The group photo for each location will be take approximately 5 mins after that time stated.

Important * 8pm Haunted Mansion photo information. * Important
Since the group will be so large we cannot do one group photo. There will be mini group photos taken of about 40 people in each one. The will be taken on the steps of the Haunted Mansion. At about 7:30 – 7:45 you should plan to arrive at the Haunted Mansion around the fountain that is next to the Haunted Mansion.

Please be sure that your entire party is together before you get into line for the photo. That way you can be sure that you will all be together for your photo. There will be someone taking count of the entire group SO PLEASE WAIT FOR NOAH TO TELL YOU WHEN TO ENTER THE HAUNTED MANSION.

During the count, while you are entering the Haunted Mansion, every 100th person who gets counted will be handed a sign with a number on it. Please make sure that you hold it up when your photo is taken. That is what number you are in the final group photo. I wonder who will get the “999” sign.

TigerLily 08-24-2005 05:40 PM

I can't make it this year. The sea world trip tapped me out and back to school clothes shopping....and my childs new dye and highlight job...*sigh*....not that I need much money when i go, but gas is killing me...

CrazyLegs 08-25-2005 12:54 AM

I cant wait to see everyone there This will be a blast. :)

MickeyLumbo 08-26-2005 09:20 AM

Being the nut that I am, I'm planning to be there right at park opening. Which means... eep... I better get my tush off to bed. See some of you tomorrow!!!

Have a safe trip and great day tomorrow everyone!!!

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 08-28-2005 12:20 AM

I will be around with my family and I'll try to get in on some of this. Maybe the 8pm HM or noon at the hub.

Then again, just look for the ears above the field of black.

mousepod 08-28-2005 10:24 AM

For all the Bat's Day celebrants, here's a sample from "Spike Jones in Stereo - A Spooktacular in Screaming Sound!" (Which was the answer to a recent question in the Trivia Thread).

This track features Paul Frees as Dracula, Loulie Jean Norman as Vampira, and George Rock as their baby.

Enjoy!

Isaac 08-29-2005 06:21 PM

Will someone upload some photos already !?

I'll go first:

Not Afraid 08-29-2005 06:37 PM

YAY! Pictures!

Those were:
  1. TheaterTech
  2. BoingoNut
  3. The Bob
  4. Penguin, Mary, Bert, Mary's Evil Twin.

Cadaverous Pallor 08-29-2005 07:16 PM

Bwahaha! Jolly 'Olliday, indeed! :D

Great pics so far :)

lizziebith 08-29-2005 07:20 PM

I had so much fun I'm in pain (stupid 20-pound boots!!!). Sorry I lost everybody...but we heard bathroom then Haunted Mansion...so we did that but never found you all again! :(

Great to meet CL and Bob (congrats!!!) and I think we saw Boingo several times throughout the day...

Not Afraid 08-29-2005 07:24 PM

Yes! Where in the heck did you go? We waited for you in Small World Mall then went over to Mansion. After that we took an AC break anyways, and T would've been bored to tears. I looked for you at the Mansion meet, but everyone looks the same in the dark ;)

lizziebith 08-29-2005 07:29 PM

*sniffle* we went back to find everyone after the bathroom break and couldn't see anyone we knew... *sniffle* we kept hoping we'd run into you all again, but there were GOTHS EVERYWHERE!!!

Seriously, I feel like an idiot, as I'd thought I'd programmed your numbers into my cell, but when I looked: nuthin'

I'm an idiot, really!

Not Afraid 08-29-2005 07:31 PM

Yeah, we had the same stupid cell phone issue. I know the humber is in my PDA - but that didn't fit in Jiji's cavity. :(

lizziebith 08-29-2005 07:34 PM

's okay...my SW pals kept calling me all day and I couldn't hear the darn thing anyway as it was in my little knapsack. I just couldn't justify Goth attire and a cell phone holder together in the same ensemble. I'm just too old skool! :D

Boingonut 08-29-2005 09:00 PM

I already posted this on the other board but I just wanted to let eveyone know what a great time I had, not only with Bats Day but meeting some of you! I wish I had done it sooner! I hope to go to more meets in the future and get to know you all better :) .

I have to thank Not Afraid for taking it apon herself to intruduce me to everyone. Belive it or not but I am actully really shy and NA really helped me get over my natural shyness very very fast! Theatere Tech was great too, I love your hair man it soooo cool! Everyone else was so cool and nice to me too and I really felt welcome among you all :D . Thank you all of you...and we need more pictures posted!!! ;)

CoasterMatt 08-29-2005 09:02 PM

It was really fun yesterday - except for one creepy lady who kept trying to touch my Boingo shirt...

MickeyLumbo 08-29-2005 09:05 PM

ahh, sorry to have missed out on the fun this year.

was it ---- HOT:confused:

thanks for posting pics, Zap:snap:

Glad you had a great time Boingonut, I loved your camera!!! I took some photos as well but most of them look really strange like they're overexposed or something, guess that's the tradeoff of having a cell phone camera instead of a real one. :( If I can find some "decent" photos and resize them I may post them later this week.

I actually have video too which is pretty cool. My favorite is the "Circle" people that kept going around the "Partners" statue a couple bazillion times... :D

Didn't end up getting home until about 2:00am tho, some Highway Patrol car was on my (bleep) for about 20 miles for one reason or another.

Hope everyone had fun and a special thank you to #700!!!! :D

Even better was the fact that we both forgot to take off our Rx sunglasses during the attraction!
