Argghhh Mateys! Be puttin the 19th on yer calander!

Just a friendly reminder that September 19th is the annual "Talk like a Pirate" Day. Time to sink a POC boat again. :)

Aww, it's a Monday? :( Bummer.

mistyisjafo 08-17-2005 10:39 AM

There's an actual Talk like a Pirate Day? Why wasn't I notified sooner!!

Not Afraid 08-17-2005 10:58 AM

Argh, It seems I will be sailing the high seas of Lake Michigan on that day. I'll raise a cup 'o grog to ya all.

Hmm, didn't realize that. That is pretty sucky planning.

Not Afraid 08-17-2005 11:44 AM

I think it is on the same Date every year, so the day move about. Damn Pirate Planning!

Ghoulish Delight 08-17-2005 11:48 AM

I think we need to implement, "Talk Like a Pirate Day (observed)". Just move it to the closest weekend to the 19th.

Motorboat Cruiser 08-17-2005 12:24 PM

Works for me. :)

innerSpaceman 08-17-2005 12:43 PM

Sunday the 18th, then. Sink Pirates of the Caribbean and commandeer the Columbia!

Tref 08-17-2005 01:07 PM

Followed on Tuesday by Smell Like Pirate Day.

Igotitallreadycovered.

Gn2Dlnd 08-17-2005 01:11 PM

And by a lucky coincidence, September 19th is also my birthday! Talk Like a Pirate Day could not fall on a more auspicious date.

Then shouldn't it be "Talk like the Commodore Day"?

Gn2Dlnd 08-17-2005 01:46 PM

[clenched teeth]Now THAT would be funny![/clenched teeth]

TOOT!

TheatreTech 08-17-2005 05:26 PM

What? We have to schedule days to talk like pirates?

Pft.

Gn2Dlnd 08-17-2005 06:03 PM

Of course not, silly. Its just mandatory for everyone else to talk like a pirate on my birthday.

A real pirate wouldnt need to move the day. They would just show up to sink a ship after a long day of fighting (corporate) raiders. ( time bandits) ;)

I understand wanting to move it to the weekend, but i think it would be better if the celebrating was done on the actual day.

If not, can we move Thanksgiving to the following Monday, I am kinda busy on that Thursday. :p

From the TLAP website:

"Q. When is Talk Like A Pirate Day 2004 (2005, 2006, etc.)?

A. International Talk Like a Pirate Day isn't one o' those governmentally sanctioned holidays that shifts around to create a convenient three-day weekend. No, the date is ALWAYS Sept. 19 (Cap'n Slappy's ex-wife's birthday.) Now, it happens that in 2004 Sept. 19 falls on a Sunday, and we recognize that may not meet everyone's desire for an excuse to party. While a lot of fun can be had ce;ebrating TLADP in a church setting (The choir will now sing, "How Great Thou Aaarrrrt!") we're suggesting that those of a more secular bent consider celebrating Talk Like A Pirate Weekend."

Obviously that's the most desirable day, but wouldn't it be better to celebrate something with friends? Don't know if anyone will be able to make a Monday other than people who live as close as we do. This kind of thing only works with a full crew, savvy?

So we'll see you Sunday?

Prudence 08-18-2005 10:12 PM

I used to plan slightly wacky parties at work. (actually, I am the wacky party champion. I totally rock. Sorry, ego moment.) I got burned out and haven't planned one in a few years. But I have discretionary funds at my disposal and administrator approval and the Department of Biobehavioral Nursing and Health Systems *will* celebrate Talk Like a Pirate Day!

This calls for a trip to Archie McPhee's for suitable prizes. Teehee!

AllyOops! 08-18-2005 11:32 PM

Pirates arggh great! :D

Tough luck for those that can't make it on Talk Like A Pirate Day. I am sure fun will be had on Sunday anyway.

As for the trip with friends, some are now questionable. Especially when, in their snarkyness, call my Mom, who is a nurse and hasto work holiday's, a chump. Oh, you didn't know that? Think a little before you post. And yes, I saw the smilie. but a joke was not your intention with that comment. Back to ignore for you.

Is this the introduction to the opposites?

Well, I did intend it as a joke. I know plenty of people who work on holidays. I personally work every other Saturday! Jeez louise...

Gn2Dlnd 08-21-2005 07:39 AM

Hey, my mom works in the game room at a Shakey's Pizza. Feel free to make any derogatory comments you wish.

FEJ 08-21-2005 03:34 PM

Gee greg, why didnt you cut it at my first response, or at CP's rsponse to me? make it look a bit lopsided, doesnt it. whatever. Have fun with you little trip.

Betty 08-22-2005 06:06 PM

Okay you crazies. Stop fighting and stop messing with the thread contents. You're makin' me cra-a-a-a-zy!

FEJ 08-22-2005 07:12 PM

I apologize to the thread for sidetracking it. It has been dealt with and things are being discussed other places.

Now lets get beck to the discussion of talking like a pirate before we stray to FAAARGGGHH...

Were there Great Lake Pirates? since that's where I'll be - at a conference on the Navy Pier, perhaps I should start a mutiny?
