Creepy Alternate Disneyland?

Was this just a fever induced dream or does the freeky alternate Disneyland called Nara dreamland really exist?

Motorboat Cruiser 09-02-2005 09:15 PM

That is so very bizzare, so "twilight zone". It is hard to believe that this place really exists.

That is one scary Main Street. Nice train station though.

Monorail Man 09-02-2005 10:19 PM

I want to visit this place. I love creepy places.

Not Afraid 09-02-2005 10:50 PM

WOW! I was so close! I feel so unfulfilled at the moment. Next time......

Motorboat Cruiser 09-02-2005 11:15 PM

I don't think there is enough money in the world to get me on that Skyway.

Oh come on, you can't ride it in the original anymore - this is as good as it gets skyway-wise

Name 09-02-2005 11:26 PM

its ghost town disneyland, almost expected to see a tumbleweed in one of the shots.

libraryvixen 09-03-2005 12:41 PM

I half expected the Scooby Doo Gang to come out to solve a mystery concerning Old Man Smithers and a spooky ghost.

Monorail Man 09-03-2005 12:51 PM

It's good to note that they actually had a submarine ride at one time, but the lagoon was filled in in 1998, and then they opened their own Autopia.

Theh have a great website! A good look at the Map (click the buttons for creepy bathroom locations), plus there even conviently located around 3 major highways!

Tref 09-03-2005 12:58 PM

All that place really needs is a little love. Ilikeit.

Hades 09-03-2005 01:13 PM

This place kinda reminds me of that scene in "Escape from L.A."! The only difference it's just a bit cleaner than "Happyland by the Sea". I almost expected to see Cuervo Jones riding down that Main Street in his pink caddy with all the doll heads!

flippyshark 09-03-2005 03:42 PM

Hey, aren't the people in those photos the same people in the Superstar Limo video that was posted here a while back? Do they make a living going to lame themed attractions? (I just loved their occasional comments and rich sarcasm on that SSL ride-through video. Does anyone here know them?)

Now I'm going to have to add Nara to my eventual Japan itinerary. I'll take a video camera, and hey, I'll even go on the skyway.

Tref 09-03-2005 11:52 PM

This should be their slogan:

The Crappiest Place on Earth!

Gn2Dlnd 09-04-2005 01:36 AM

It's already trademarked for DCA.

Name 09-04-2005 10:50 AM

so much for seeing craptasmic there then, damn it.

As a matter of fact, I do know them. They're having a bbq in a few weeks to show off their new Europe DVD; they really do have other jobs, but rollercoasters and theme parks are their passion (and oh yeah, donkeys)...

Chernabog 09-05-2005 08:56 AM

EEEK. Some of it reminds me of the "abandoned theme park" in Spirited Away.

Chernabog 09-05-2005 09:07 AM

Reading other reviews on there. So funny! I wanna go! Those cats seem cool, anyone here know them?

YES! I had the same thought!

Certainly not, my good lady! What has DCA done to you to deserve such ridicule? Poor little park.

When next I go to Japan I shall sojourn to this dear little park for ten days and ten nights, or, at least for one joy filled afternoon. So help me as God is my immaterial witness, I call to stand, my solemn vow to one day visit this fab Japanese park, ladies and gentleman of the jury. The state rests.

Mousey Girl 09-06-2005 03:28 AM

After seeing the state of the park, the last thing I would have wanted to do was jump on the coaster.

I loved looking at the pics from the other parks they visited.

Gemini Cricket 09-06-2005 05:11 AM

Could this be what Disneyland in the future would have looked like had Pressler stayed? All in ruins...?
:shudder:
:D

SzczerbiakManiac 09-06-2005 10:27 AM

When I read this thread's title, I thought you were going to talk about Spooky Workd.

Disneyphile 09-06-2005 04:59 PM

OMG. This is too funny. Creepy, and funny. I love the captions!!! :D

DisneyDaniel 09-08-2005 06:56 AM

I don't know much about international law, but I wonder if The Walt Disney Company ever considered suing this other "D" land. Its train station, the view of the castle down "Main Street," and map of the Jungle Cruise are too eerie and creepy, like a strange dream or a place in The Twilight Zone. I wonder how many "unreported" accidents happen every year in that park?

It seems Disney doesn't need to worry about this place making money...

innerSpaceman 09-08-2005 12:23 PM

But seriously, you wouldn't think the company that sued a Florida kindergarten a few years back for painting pictures of Mickey & Friends on the walls would hesitate to sue Dreamland of the Far East for ripping off Disneyland icons so blatently (heheh, especially the Matterhorn!)

You got a point there.

Name 09-08-2005 08:54 PM

But can you trademark ride layouts, and park layouts and configurations? I know that Mickey and all the characters are trademarks of the Disney Company, but I don't think a roller coaster type ride circling a mock mountain is trademarkable, or even having a castle in the center of a park.

sleepyjeff 09-09-2005 08:58 PM

That was seriously funny......his captions had my wife and I in stithes:)

btw; yeah, my first thought too was that of Spirited Away.

CoasterMatt 09-09-2005 09:53 PM

If you like the Nara Dreamland, and Superstar Limo videos - you HAVE to see the Manhattan Express video - NSFW - but funny enough to make me tinkle...

The DVDs they sell are absolutely wonderful, they've got some great footage of Tokyo Disneyland/Tokyo Disney Seas.

Tito's Kitten 09-13-2005 02:59 AM

Whenever I go to Japan I am going to this place!! It so awesome. They have a ride that consists of rickety stairs that go nowhere. Awesome. Now that's entertainment. God Bless the Japanese.

Morrigoon 09-13-2005 11:10 AM

Wow, I haven't seen Robb in ages! I didn't even recognize him till I heard the name!

CoasterMatt: can you linky the Manhattan Express video? My bf lost it in a hard drive crash. (it's the one where they were on the coaster with a bunch of nuns, right?) We *heart* that video!

CoasterMatt 09-13-2005 05:36 PM

Here's the link - it's about 9.5 megs zipped, and definitely NSFW :)
