LoT Birthday Celebration at the DLR!

Yeah, I know we've got some time but thar be busy days ahead so get this on yer calendars now.

I think a celebration is in order for 2 reasons:
  1. LoT turns 1 year old and
  2. Prudence and Bunny Travolta are in town
So, here's the plan as it stands, man.

Saturday, January 7th

2:00 ish - Meet at the GC (Fireplace outside?) for drinks

5:00 - We find somewhere cool to eat. (Prudence and Bunny Travolta will have dinner at the Vinyard Room - they ARE on vacation after all!)

6ish - We'll secure a spot for fireworks "camping"

Prudence and Bunny will join us after dinner for Swanking and Camping

Yeah, I know details are sparse, but we'll get them flushed out. Just save the date and think warm thoughts for now.

Post if you're up for it or want us to do more funy and fancy free things.

Lisa

Ponine 11-07-2005 10:57 PM

Oh I am soooooo in....
I'll have to think on other fun and fancy free things

SzczerbiakManiac 11-07-2005 11:01 PM

WooHoo! Sounds like a blast.

Will there be another appearance by Mrs. Perón...? ;)

We can only hope - though we'll have to bring the celebrating indoors for the balcony scene

Kevy Baby 11-07-2005 11:23 PM

Ask me in January (and GusGus's birthday is the 9th FWIW).

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 11-07-2005 11:59 PM

And everyone must wear berets. :D  :)

Not Afraid 11-08-2005 12:02 AM

Ummmmmmmmmmm, I think I have one of those. ;)

Prudence 11-08-2005 10:28 AM

w00t! I even just this morning made our Vineyard Room ADR/PS/whatever they are! (It was really scary! Once I gave them my name they asked if I was still at (my old phone number). Disneyland is tracking me!

Now, must find beret. I think it's in the hall closet...

Matterhorn Fan 11-08-2005 05:22 PM

Sadly, I won't be able to attend. (I don't have a beret.)

Stan4dSteph 11-08-2005 07:03 PM

I have two berets.

*sigh* no beret here. That is the day I want to go activate our AP's. Of course David won't want to go since we are going to Pismo for a long New Year's weekend.

Dippy Dawg 11-10-2005 12:21 AM

Je serai lŕ-bas d'ordonner la Rébellion de Noberet!!!

Cadaverous Pallor 11-10-2005 08:26 AM

Did I mention that we're bad shoppers and came back from Paris sans beret?

Sadly, I'm unsure how much of this meet we can make. The 7th is my father's birthday.

I have too many family members

lindyhop 11-12-2005 01:26 PM

Adding "beret shopping" to my To Do list.

Moonliner 11-12-2005 02:14 PM

Would that I could come, alas for me it is not a simple issue Berets but of work and schedules and family and on and on....

So once again, as we did on the 50th, we "can't attend" regulars shall have to hold down the fort and party in the virtual.

Hoist a drink for us and we shall click a mouse for you! :)

MickeyLumbo 11-12-2005 02:44 PM

I just located and tried on my beret. Swanky!

CoasterMatt 11-12-2005 08:38 PM

I've got no beret, but I can be unbearably snooty :D

Not Afraid 11-12-2005 08:55 PM

No, we don't want snooty! We want friendly and swanky! ;)

DisneyFan25863 11-12-2005 09:50 PM

That's my birthday! I'll be in the park, but won't attend any "festivities", since I'll be with my girlfriend.

Not Afraid 11-12-2005 11:38 PM

Girlfriend! :)

wendybeth 11-12-2005 11:46 PM

(But why the little teeny print on the 'girl' part, eh?);)

What number birthday, DF?

Although I'm sure once your mom does find out you've got a girlfriend, she'll accept her with open arms, because she'll be really relieved ;)

Prudence 12-28-2005 10:05 AM

Just popped in to see if this was still happening or not. I haven't heard anything lately so I'm assuming not.

innerSpaceman 12-28-2005 01:21 PM

What? Is this the thread of missinformation???????

Yes, January 7th. Where? Well, where do you want to meet now that our lovely AP Lounge is gone? The fireplace will still be there and functioning I am assuming. I'll call in a few days (ie: after January 1) and find out.

innerSpaceman 12-28-2005 10:40 PM

I think we should meet by the outdoor fireplace - which, for all we know, may be serving as the main lobby for the hotel.

Let's each bring a sprig of our own dearly departed Christmas trees to throw on the hearth. Fortunately, no long johns will be required.

Cadaverous Pallor 12-29-2005 02:40 AM

I'm willing to bet the AP Lounge will be all fixed for us by then. It's the lobby of a very busy hotel, and I bet they're working 24/7 to get it functional again.

Why the hell was my dad born that day??? We'd better have some decent meet action going on before we have to leave...

mistyisjafo 12-30-2005 03:24 AM

This has got to go on the official calendar, I'll need a reminder!

innerSpaceman 01-02-2006 10:35 PM

Well, the AP Lounge is open again ... so it will certainly be a (long?) stop on the tour.

What time shall we begin? Should we attempt Riverbelle Breakfast at 10, in honor of good old times at the prececessor to the predecessor to the predecessor of LoT?

Dude! I'm a kevy sig line!

We'll likely miss the breakfast assemblage - so just tell us what time to be at the AP lounge. Still 2pm?

Cadaverous Pallor 01-03-2006 11:00 AM

I'm totally down for Riverbelle breakfast. :snap:

Not Afraid 01-03-2006 11:05 AM

Well, if someone drags me out of bed and goes with me to walk the dogs, I'm ok with breakfast. Otherwise, I'll show up at 2ish.

So, the plan is 2:00 at the Grand Cal - and I'm still thinking the outside fireplace would be cool. if we have inclimate weather, we can always move.

innerSpaceman 01-03-2006 02:24 PM

Count me in for Riverbelle.

Bah on 2:00 arrival. Pfft, old folks and their lazy ways!

Capt Jack 01-03-2006 03:22 PM

Ya know ... the Cap'n Jackbooting of Pirates of the Caribbean. The ride that inspired the movie that is taking over the ride.

In March this year, Walt Disney's finest theme park work goes down in flames ... to be replaced by a Barbossa and Sparrow infested monstrocity. Ugh.

Gemini Cricket 01-04-2006 11:18 AM

Have some Mickey head pancakes for me, y'all.
:)

Ponine 01-04-2006 11:25 AM

ooooooowww.. I made way too many of those to ever eat one again....
But I will think of you!

innerSpaceman 01-04-2006 06:14 PM

I have to tell you that I have a strong Prime-Spot Remember urge, even if it means me camping out and saving space.

Other than that, I'm sure we should swankify our LoT celebration at the resort. But, after the AP Lounge, what other swanky things are there at Disneyland?

I think we could make dinner pretty swanky at Catal - the feline's favorite ... and my post-holiday wallet wouldn't object to me missing that for the sake of fireworks space-saving.

Prudence 01-04-2006 06:52 PM

I'm not about to object to prime spot space-saving - particularly since we'll be at dinner part of that time, are equipped with the magic cell phone numbers, and have every intention of crashing the prime spot party.

As for breakfast - that's scheduled to be our early entry in to Fantasyland day (or whatever), so we'll definitely be up -- but busy working up our appetite for lunch.

Still planning on 2pm, somewhere GC lobby-ish. Short, fat woman with crazy hair and glasses, accompanied by curly-haired, glasses-wearing tattoed guy wearing man purse...I mean satchel. Either euphoric or exhausted -- you may start the pool now.

I, unfortunately (actually, fortunately), will be hosting my own birthday party that day, and then attending a meeting that night.

Turn 20 years sober and people want a party.

I'll miss you guys. Happy LOTday!

Disneyphile 01-05-2006 11:40 AM

Ken and I can't make it - we've been longing for an all-day "date" with just each other, so we've made plans to go to Sea World that day. (Yeah, I know Shamu isn't as swanky, but we've needed this for a long time - to just do something different.) And, that evening, we're spending some time out on the ill-fated tiki patio in its current state.

So, have a great day, filled with much swank! :)

So it looks like we will have two meets:

10:00 a.m. at the Riverbelle for pancakes (for which I will take one meal off from my low-carb experience).

2:00 p.m. at the freshly carpeted AP Lounge (or is it outside - I can't remember).

Susan and I will be at both. Susan's birthday is Monday and we always (since pre AP days oh so many years ago) have a DL day for her day.

Have fun all! I intended to be there, but was called in to work, alas.

But I'll see you all soon.

Just as well, I think I need to get a new battery for my car today, and wouldnt want to get stuck in Anaheim

Kevy Baby 01-08-2006 12:25 AM

Well, just got back from the celebration. Somewhere between one and two hundred people showed up for the LoT anniversary and Prudence/Bunny Travolta meet.

Too tired to say much.

DisneyFan25863 01-08-2006 12:56 AM

I think I saw you guys before the firworks (OMG.....that was the first time I saw them...they were AMAZING!!!), but I'm not sure. Would have said hi, but the CMs were literally pushing us around the hub :D

PS: I also had my first Dole whip today. WOW!

Not Afraid 01-08-2006 02:28 AM

You mean somewhere between 100 and 200 pounds don't you?

MickeyLumbo 01-08-2006 07:38 AM

or 300.

apparently i was at Plaza Inn while you all were at Space Mountain FastPass line, after fireworks. for some reason, i thought you were planning on watching from top of Mickey and Friends.

i would have loved to have joined you at SM, but, MommaLumbo was done for the day and she barely made it back to the car.

we did hook up with KevyBaby and his lovely bride after fireworks though and surfed the eastside shops - destination Disneyana, where i decided against the $10,000 original drawing. my gosh, i would have only had a $2,000 discount. i couldn't do much with $2,000 anyway.

besides i'm saving my hard earned disney dollars for the PotC themed Johnny Depp underwear comming in June.:p

Happy Birthday LoT!

Not quite. We switched to vB3 that day but LoT hadn't been announced & there was tweaking that need to be done.

We were officially up & running on Sunday, January 9, 2005 @ 11:57pm.

Cadaverous Pallor 01-08-2006 01:48 PM

Yeah, I thought it was the 9th.

Whoo, that was a fun meet. Definitely traditional. Breakfast at the RiverBelle for 2 hours, a ride on Pirates, some messing about in the Gallery, drinks at the AP Lounge, meet someone new (Prudence), and a ride on whatever's the current thing (Monsters Inc). It was like 2002 all over again ;) We had to leave after that but we definitely got a decent day out of it.

Love everyone that came, and wish we could have had everyone there!

Damn sorry we missed the fun. We just couldn't pull it off though. We both had to work.

The photos just made me really hungry, btw. :)

wendybeth 01-09-2006 01:11 AM

Awww, great pics, Jen- ty! It's makes me sad that I couldn't be there.:(

I am still plotting the American Girl/Uni Studio/ DL trip this next spring, and I really cannot wait to see you all again IRL. Kevy, you and Susan look great, btw! (Actually, everyone does!)

LSPoorEeyorick 01-09-2006 07:20 AM

We have the flu, so although we wanted to be there we didn't feel up to driving from Hollywood. We missed you guys, and so sorry we didn't get to meet Pru.

what a swanktacular lookin bunch.

Prudence 01-09-2006 02:47 PM

Gah. I'm so freakin' tired. I'm thrilled to have such a flattering photo documenting our grand northwest traditions.

If class is boring tonight (high probability), I'll start writing up my various impressions. Many photos need uploading.

BunnyTravolta 01-09-2006 11:50 PM

It was quite swanky meeting all y'all. Sorry I bailed rather early at the GCH. Poor BunBun needed a widdoe nappy-poo. He was all tiggered out.

........I'll just leave that one dangling.

....That one also.

The fireworks were way cool, and so were the ones after the "Matterhorn Beeyatch Incident".
(Ask NotAfraid or InnerSpaceMan. I'm sure they'll be happy to tell you the tale.)

Must find a pair of the "Wickedhard Dopefiend Mindbender Glasses" that InnerSpaceMan lent me for the heavy trip on Space Mountain.
Dude!!!! That SO frickin' rocked!!!!!

Stay swanky, cats and kittens.

:snap:

Prudence 01-10-2006 12:02 AM

(and yes, he did have to visit the first aid the next morning when he couldn't walk, and yes, I did get the joy of pushing him around in a DL wheelchair sunday.)

Not Afraid 01-10-2006 01:12 AM

But, did you tell them how it happened?

So how was the football game?

Oh yes. They took a whole report with our names and addresses and phone number and gave us a free rental. (Of course, that saved us a whole $8.)

Cadaverous Pallor 01-11-2006 11:15 AM

You're going to make me ask, aren't you?

Gemini Cricket 01-11-2006 11:22 AM

I'll do it.
What's the Matterhorn Beeyatch Incident, y'all?

Motorboat Cruiser 01-11-2006 11:25 AM

Yes, inquiring minds want to know...

spill it!

innerSpaceman 01-11-2006 12:12 PM

As all you DL regulars probably know, the Matterhorn Bobsleds is the fastest loading attraction in the Park. I don't even mind that, decades ago, they joined two bobsleds together in a train that now looks nothing like a bobsled ... because the ride loads so damn fast that I will queue up even if the lines for both tracks meet at the back of the mountain!

In order to maintain this fast load state, the CMs who load the vehicles must be top notch and know what the hell they are doing. They must know their job, or they should not be working the Matterhorn. This is a tale of one young lady who should NOT be working the Matterhorn.

At this point in the evening, around 10:30 p.m., our swanky crew was down to Nine. There are four sections in a bobsled train, for a total of eight sections in the two bobsled trains that are loaded simultaneously at the station. As only two of our crew were going to ride together all cuddly and tight (me and my sweety, zapppop - - who kindly gives me a reach around on the dark lift every time) and the rest were going to ride separately, eight sections were going to be used in total. 1) Zapppop and me; 2) Euro; 3) Not Afraid; 4) Matterhorny Laurie (not a poster on these boards); 5) Prudence; 6) BunnyTravolta; 7) S.Maniac; and 8) lindyhop. Nine people with 2 of them pairing and the rest separate fill two bobsled trains completely. But the CM simply would not comprehend this.

We tried and tried to make her understand, we politely and patiently explained the configuration of bobsleds on her attraction and how we, the guests, would precisely fit into two bobsled trains. She would not get it, and she was pretty darn rude about it.

She had us line up in such a way that we would be riding in bobsleds with other, unknown guests. Uh-uh, no. I let a bobsled be dispatched to the ride half full because I would not board. The CM chastised us, and I again explained to her how nine people, with 1 pairing, fit precisely into 2 bobsled trains - all by themselves - with no room for other guests. Ugh.

But the beeyotch, unbeknownst to me at the time, went to the back of our group and insisted that Pru and Bunny cram together into one bobsled section, and she sent the two trains out with one section completely empty - while two of our party were crammed in so tight they could not breathe.

And, as it turns out, crammed in so tight that BunnyTravolta hurt his knees pretty badly. Again, I wish I'd known that at the time so I could have gotten Beeyotch's name.

'Cause when NA and I went back a few minutes later, after learning about the injury, Beeyotch was nowhere to be found. We asked her fellow CMs about her, we summoned a lead and asked about her. The lead said she had likely gone out on break (too much of a coincidence for me to buy) and refused, flat-out refused, to give us her name.

So it was the lead's name I used in my written complaint at City Hall, only the third CM complaint I have registered in over a quarter century of constant Disneyland attendance.

If I see that Beeyotch at the Matterhorn again, she is going to get quite a mouthful.

Meaning that you're going to yell at her, right? Right?!
:D

innerSpaceman 01-11-2006 12:25 PM

That all depends. If she has the nerve to actually ride the Matterhorny with me, she's likely get a mouthful of a different kind.

Cadaverous Pallor 01-11-2006 12:35 PM

 What a total sorry excuse for a Matterhorn CM! How awful that that's how you ended your night. And I can't believe that the lead wouldn't give you her name. Incredible!

innerSpaceman 01-11-2006 12:50 PM

Well, that's how Pru and Bunny ended their night. (We urged them to go to First Aid right there and then ... the lead was calling over there to advise of their imminent arrival ... but they declined, and returned instead to the comfort of their firetrap, er, Grand Cal hotel room).

The rest of us took a spin on Mr. Toad's Wild Ride before, oh yeah, heading down to City Hall to file a complaint. Hmmm, I guess it was how we ended our night after all.

Nevermind.

mistyisjafo 01-11-2006 01:04 PM

I am so bummed I missed out on the Lotiversary. I had the world's worst hangover on Saturday morning. I didn't even get home until 9am as it was!!! Looks like it was a great time (except Matterhorn drama). Sorry I missed it.

In the interest of accuracy, I should note here that it was the BunBun being all manly man and refusing the first aid. I, on the other hand, got in a fair dose of "told you so" the next day, as I wheeled his ass around the park. The RNs at first aid added a little more for good measure.

In the interest of pointing out random bits of nothing, I will also note that if were inclined (or required) to leap from our balcony into the park, we had the perfect room for doing so. Hmmmmm......

And in yet another tangent -- the Incident did allow us to experience first hand how some CMs react to guests in wheelchairs. From a sociological experiment standpoint, it was very interesting. Some went out of their way to be helpful and make our day easier. Some pretended they couldn't see us. It was an interesting educational experience.

Calling one "BunBun" completely removes ANY manliness!

I'm so on-edge that I'm doin' the "Pee-Pee Dance".

The POWER and MOJO of Boris will compel the Seahawks to win!!!

BunnyTravolta 01-12-2006 11:52 PM

Many thanks to ISM and NA for sticking up for me. The knee is better now, thanks, but I will have to see a doc about it, due to some unrelated jabbing pains.
(Man, I hate getting older sometimes.)
And yes, being pushed around in a wheelchair was cool.....for all of ten minutes. Having guests shove me out of their way and having CMs ignore me/sneer at me got old quick.
Many sweet props (yo) to my Cute Kitten Pru for helping her old man out.

SzczerbiakManiac 01-13-2006 10:23 AM

And for those who were curious, I still have bruises on my leg from Space Mountain.

But it was worth the pain. Awesome glasses iSm!

innerSpaceman 01-13-2006 01:22 PM

Another loading foible of mind. Should have put you in the nosecone, which has slightly better leg room.

From now on, I will more closely monitor the loading process of big groups.

I know I shouldn't, but I feel somewhat responsible for the bangs and bruises.

Prudence 01-13-2006 01:32 PM

But now we have an official incident! True, it doesn't involve pancakes or tacos or any other flat, round, starchy foods, but beggars shall not be choosers.

Meanwhile, iSm clearly needs a whistle and clipboard for all future outings. Bonus points for reflective safety vest.

Steve in a safety vest - now THERE's a sight I would like to see!

Lordy, there'd be no living with him if he had the power of such props on his side. :D

innerSpaceman 01-13-2006 02:37 PM

I've been seen around the Park with a clipboard on many occassions.

Next time, since it seems my days of winning with the clipboard may be behind me, I will additionally accessorize with the whistle ... to compensate!

Prudence 01-19-2006 09:08 PM

Whee! Prolonging the fun! Our box of Swanky 50th swag arrived today. Decorative pillow, commemorative plate set, mug set, and decorative box. Yay!
