No Fireworks - four nights running
The Fireworks have been cancelled four nights in a row from what I understand, last night being the fourth night. However, they do spew out the snow - I guess as a consolation.
Cancellation has been due to the winds. They must be experiencing winds at higher altitudes because it was dead calm on the ground at DL last night (except for the short gust from the collective "awwww" when the announcement was made). |

Wow, this is beyond lame. They finally go back to an every-night fireworks schedule, only to have it cancelled for the better part of an entire week!
Maybe it's punishment for going all Christmassy before Thanksgiving. I predict that the fireworks-snow combo will return nightly after Turkey Day. |
Do they announce the cancellation at the last minute? After people have been waiting for 3 hours?
|
They usually wait until the last minute to calcel because they have no idea until right before the start if the winds are going to cooperate. There have been plenty of time that they've been able to go ahead with the pyro at the last minute.
|
Yeah, I figured, it's just a bummer.
|
Those are the nights when I walk by the Castle and do my best Nelson impersonation... HAHA!
|
This is the thing I fear for January -- no fireworks. :(
|
Hopefully, by January, these damn winds will have flown the coop.
|
If you want to be super geeky you can watch for the baloon release and see how wildly afar the small white baloon goes. You can call the fireworks yourself before the announcement is made.
|
I was there on Saturday, looking forward to seeing them for the first time. We got to the hub about 20 min. before the show was supposed to start, and actually found perfect seats. They made several announcements saying they may be cancelled, and at about 9:30 they made the offical one (show was supposed to start at 9:25). I feel bad for the people who were sitting there hours in advanced.
Oh, and the snow was really really lame. I don't know if it was where we were standing or what, but you couldn't even see it (we were just to the east of the hub, around the Churro cart). Anyone know if Fantasmic! ran? |

Saturday night a couple of weeks ago the fireworks were delayed but we couldn't hear any announcements from the dance floor. Then I saw the white balloon going up and was sure they would cancel them because it wasn't going staight up, it was blowing right over the castle towards Main Street. But they finally started up a few minutes later. So don't rely on me for any predictions. |

Fireworks tonight! (Tuesday)
They did do a "delay" announcement. Then about 9:30...came Julie. Nothing at IASW though. One of the projectors was broken, so only 2/3 of the facade was projected on. |
"Hello, this is Julie Andrews. I've just called to say...I love you."
|
Damn you to HELL!
Maybe it will replace the Willy Wonka song in my head. |
They should play Julie Andrews opening from this year's Hanging
|
Tonight the projector towards the left side of the Small World facade was not operating during the fireworks but DID function properly during the snowfall. They announed a 3rd performance of Fantasmic for 11:30PM due to crowds.
|
Fireworks were cancelled both nights of the Candelight Ceremony, making it the first time in long-toothed memory that the full spate of holiday entertainment was not availble on those all important nights (when the Park has been traditionally full of Disney VIPs invited to Candlelight.)
I feel really bad for all the Christmastime visitors to the park this season who have not had the fireworks top off their evening. The P.O.P. suggested that there is a curse upon the pyro shows, because they are sticking with "Remember" instead having Holiday Themed fireworks. |
I have a feeling there's a curse upon the shows because the increased amount of low-level pyro and pyro near guest areas mean that the cancellation threshold has gotten lower than ever.
|
I was thinking that, too .... except that upon second thought, I had to wonder why low-level pyro would cause the show to be cancelled for high level winds.
|
Oh, I thought it was pretty windy last night. When I was sitting on a bench in the hub, hoping against hope that the wind would die down so that my diehard Disney buddy from Michigan would be able to see the stretching room effect from optimum viewing spot. D'oh! She won't be back until the 50th is over, so she's missed them entirely!
|
FWIW, the fireworks went off tonight - saw them from the freeway on my drive home (a few minutes before 6:00).
Follow-up: I just checked the schedule and RDCT was scheduled for 5:45 tonight. I also saw on the site: Take advantage of longer Park hours that let you enjoy all the magical attractions, shows and events during our 50th Anniversary Celebration! DL (and DCA) closed at 6:00 tonight. So much for "longer Park hours." |
'Tis the season for private parties...
|
Cast Member parties.
|
Disneyland has to be the only place where, when they throw the employees* a party, they do it at work.
* Yes, I know the people who work for the Mouse are Cast Members. |

Universal's employee parties are at work, too
So are Six Flags Magic Mountain's, and Knott's Berry Farm's... |
So who runs the attractions while the Cast Members play? That would suck having to work on Cast Member night
|
They havem I think, Three CM nights, so they rotate staff.

i was at the park 'till 1am last night...some highlites:
Matt O and Bob I handing out candy canes. OH SO MUCH more pleasant than seeing Eisner. one of my office managers as a jungle cruise skipper. a blizzard on Main Street during the Christmas parade. Space Mountain work lights on at the end of the evening. a picture with Mickey! 50th merchandise event in Golden Horseshoe. NO crowds!!!! (they don't even put up ropes for parade or have cross overs or need CM's to do Guest Control. it is so cool. all on best behavior, controling ourselves.) :snap: |

I've only worked in one hourly establishment (Longs Drugs) that had an Christmas party for it's employees. MickeyLumbo, It sounds like the DL Xmas party was a wonderful time!!!!!!!! :snap: |
My sister has a good idea for Boomers. "The workers at the locations should be able to go to corporate and hang out in offices for a day while the execs get them coffee and make copies."

Now that I've participated in my first major derail... Are fireworks going 7 days a week again wind permitting? |
