SpongeBob's Queer Pants
Focus on the Family strikes again.
Sometimes I wonder why organizations, such as this one, get so much attention. Conservatives Pick Soft Target: A Cartoon Sponge Quote:

This focus on SpongeBob should go down in history as the most innane attack against gays since Falwell took on Tinky Winky the Teletubby. I know you're saying, GC you're getting amped up over a cartoon sponge. Yes I am. It's silly. But according to this group and extremist religious groups like it says that the gay community is to blame for just about everything. The gay community is to blame for: 1. The 9/11 attacks 2. Kerry losing the election 3. Decline of moral values in this country 4. Brainwashing children 5. The Tsunami that killed 200,000 people Click here After awhile, when it's as prevalent as it is in the news it kind of get to you. Sometimes a queen has to wonder if this country is losing it. |
:( <---SpongeBob is not happy about this.

I thought sponges were asexual?

I was laughing over this just a few months ago.

Actually, I haven't blown my gasket for no reason for awhile. I've been a good boy. I've been keeping myself calm, meditating, listening to mellow music etc. This one just seemed too much today. Especially when the world is celebrating a very powerful man today who wants to deny me certain rights. Ugh. Anyway, on the bright side, if you read the title to my thread fast, it supposed to sound like SpongeBob SqueerPants. Which I thought was kinda funny. But hey, my humor's a tad off today. :D |

Kind of makes you wonder why they're so interested... I certainly haven't found an answer to that question.

Hugs today to GC. Today sucks butt....been trying to just hang with Chloe, play CandyLand, do her Valentines for school, and not focus on D.C. Yech. There will be plenty of time for that. |

Hmmm Aren't you supposed to whack me with a silk glove or something?

I'm sure the Commodore would take the glove off before whacking you.

GD, I just wish I had Mojo for you right now LOL

ok, I didn't read this before and I haven't had any coffee today, but, all I can say is WTF!
|
Absolutely unbelievable, these people are. I swear, they could figure out a way to show that a tree is promoting homosexuality.

And the trunks are kind of phallic... |
Yeah, I'm basically wondering WTF?
I haven't watched it since my sisters stopped watching it. I'll have to look into the story later, the link you gave is asking me to register, and most video feeds never work for me, so I'll miss that section, certainly. Anyone with a sneak preview on how they're saying Spongebob promotes homosexuality? I'm just curious... |

Gotta love those "F*ckups on the Family" people.
Oh, wait a minute. No I don't. |
For laughs, I sent FotF an email about SpongeBob:
"Is your organization serious about your comments about SpongeBob being gay? I find Focus on the Family to be a very close-minded and homphobic ministry. Your statement about this character will go down in history as being as idiotic as Falwell's comments on Tinky Winky the Teletubby." They replied today as follows: "Greetings from Focus on the Family, and thank you for taking the time to express your concern over the recent _New York Times_ article in which Dr. Dobson commented on the popular cartoon character, SpongeBob SquarePants. We appreciate having an opportunity to offer a few words of clarification on the matter. At the outset, it’s important to note that, contrary to what some have suggested, Dr. Dobson was *not* criticizing the character of SpongeBob or the program on which he appears. The _New York Times_ article does mention that SpongeBob has “become a well-known camp figure among gay men”; however, if you will re-read the piece carefully you will discover that this observation and the accompanying commentary were made by the article’s author, David D. Kirkpatrick, and not by Dr. Dobson. Dr. Dobson addresses this situation and its ongoing implications in much greater detail in the February, 2005 edition of his ministry letter. You can access the letter on our Web site at the following link: http://www.family.org/docstudy/newsletters/a0035339.cfm. We trust this brief reply has served to clarify Dr. Dobson’s intentions for you. Thanks once more for your honest feedback. Best wishes to you in the days ahead. Scott Smith Focus on the Family ----------------------------- I see, it was all misinterpreted... Huh? |
I'm just impressed they used the word "camp".
|
I'm so not going to give their counter the satisfaction of me clicking on the link.
|
So, I guess there are quite a few sexually active cartoon characters out the huh?
Not only does SpongeBob have no sex, he has no freekin' "package." Come'on, we all know water expands sponges right? Then he'd be SpongeBob Puptent Pants. Yeah? Just add water... |

You guys, I know you don't want to give the site a click, but you can't comment on something unless you've read it. As a service to all of you I clicked it once and I'll post the contents of the page below. It's extremely long, so I'll do it in two posts.

Ok, I skimmed this and read most of it. At the very least, everyone should read the first section. It states that the "We are Family" group that was putting out a video with cartoon characters, including Sponge Bob, had a pro-diversity/tolerance website that included a section that was about accepting homosexuality. The Christians don't like this.
Period. If I were someone that thought that it was against God's will for people to accept gays, I wouldnt' want the most popular cartoon characters to support it. It makes sense from their point of view. They're still homophobic assholes that are filled with hate and fear. But they're not idiots. They are correct - if Dora the Explorer and Clifford the Big Red Dog demonstrate tolerance, kids will be more tolerant. Halleluyah. :) |
