A Couple Cool Pix from DLP at Xmas
I saw these while surfing, thought you folks would enjoy them.
Lace-like lights along Main Street Belle's castle by night |
Is it called Belle's Castle during Xmas?
|
Those are nice pics. The light arches weren't there this last Christmas. Instead, they put crown-shaped chandeliers on the lamp posts.
Night shot They were installed while we were there in October, but they weren't turning them on at night. It's a good idea in theory, and it looks good lit up, but they've got these plastic images of the princesses on them that look really cheap and crappy close-up, which was unfortunate. |
Yeah, all in all - I don't like the Christmas decorations for Main Street and the Hub at DLP. The chandeliers are an improvement over the arches ... but if they look crappy during the day, then it's pointless.
The arches are beautiful in their own right, but they wreck the theming of Main Street, U.S.A. and block the view of the Castle. That's what they get for insisting that Disney park castles must be 12-storeys tall. And though the lighting is sorta interesting, I can't say that I'm overly fond of the treatment to Sleeping Beauty's (not Belle's) Castle. (That kind of mistake irks me ... it was so cool the other night to hear the following exchange at Disneyland: Stupid Guest: "Where's the Haunted House?" ... Popcorn Vendor CM (pointing): "The Haunted Mansion is right over there, Sir.") |

Oops, I mean Disneyland Park. Or Resort. Whatever. I'd have smacked the popcorn vendor. Oh yeah, pretty pictures! |

Alternate post:  |
Sorry SM. That ain't Belle's castle. The name " Le Chateau De La Belle Au Bois Dormant ", roughly translated, means the castle of the beautiful woman of the sleeping wood, or , Sleeping Beauty Castle.
I kinda like the lighting, however, I highly doubt I'd visit EDL in the winter. It was cold enough in the fall (55° by day, 40° at night). |
I don't think it was SM's wrong doing to name the castle after Belle. It seems the visitor who took the actual photo called it that in his photo caption.
While I really like the winterized castle I am glad the MS arches are now gone. They were a distraction for Halloween and added nothing to the decor. |
I was merely quoting the dude who posted the picture. That's what he called it, ergo, that's how I referred to it.
|
They lit the arches Orange at night for Halloween.
But yeah, good riddance. (It's Halloween, lo-ween, everybody. Give out a scream, hooray, it's Halloween) |
I have this song on my iPod and I had a hard time not dancing down the wtreet while walking the god.
I did, however, act out the entire "Believe" fireworks in subdued form today. I'm a geek. |
I believe during the Christmas season a portion of Fantasyland is transformed into Bells' Christmas village - or something like that, so I suspect that's were the Belle error came from.
Regardless of the decorations, I'd gladly go back to Paris to investigate them in person. |

I don't think so. The Goddess walks us, whereas we usually walk the god.

I think I have a couple pictures of the decorations going up during our last trip to EDL in October 2004. I'll look for them. Quote:

What CD? Do we get a copy? Sheesh! ;)

I despise StarSpeak! When I want a big beverage (milk, of course), I'll say "I want your largest size" beverage (and yes, I overemphasize and over-articulate it). I've also learned to do the same thing with pizza places because they like to invent new size naming conventions.

(ooops, I replied before reading the rest of the thread, and zapp has already addressed this issue. Let's hope he brings one for me, aussie.) |
Those lights are very pretty - the arch things remind me (very very strongly) of the Lights of Winter at Epcot, which are synched to music and the fountain in Future World.
